High heart rate, temp and resp rate

Mumoftwo2022 · 25/02/2024 22:37

Hi

i I know everyone is going to say take him to hospital but I’m thinking cos of the doctor strike can this wait til morning. Little boy is 16 months

temperature since friday
gone down hill this evening , temp at 40, bad cough, resp rate 60 heart rate 162.
given him some Nurofen so think I’m gonna see if that brings it down as last time dr said high heart rate is linked to high temp
he is currently asleep so if he was really unwell he would be more unsettled right?

I hate wasting doctors times and don’t really wanna be waiting hours when I think he is ok but then I doubt myself 😢

Agreed 💯 I'd just head for the hospital now

NGCO · 25/02/2024 23:28

I cant believe ur even asking this or spending anytime in here

hopsalong · 25/02/2024 23:28

Don't call 111. That is wasting time. Go to A&E. Do you have a pediatric one near you? Even if it's a long wait, you'll be in the safest place if he takes a turn for the worse. (The last time I took a toddler in he recovered quite a lot during the five-hour wait before being told it was bronchiolitis, but I was glad to be there and nurses checked in with us frequently before the consultant came.)

thaegumathteth · 25/02/2024 23:31

Take him straight to A+E now please

nocoolnamesleft · 25/02/2024 23:35

That's an incredibly high resp rate for a kid that age. Higher than you can safely assume is just down to the fever. Get him checked out.

Your kind……
on here as I was cuddling him to settle him, no harm when all I wanted was a bit of advice as it is doctors strikes so was unsure whether or not it could wait as sats of 92 are not the worse we were discharged with that last time we were in it was more the heart rate that concerned me.
anyway have rung 111 waiting for call to go to out of hours. Whilst this has been going on his temp has come down a bit so I am a bit less worried .

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/02/2024 23:52

But he’s clearly not OK. A&E.

thaegumathteth · 25/02/2024 23:55

So he's been admitted before with breathing issues? I hope you get seen soon. If nobody calls you back very soon please head to A&E.

MaloneMeadow · 26/02/2024 00:07

Go to A&E now. You don’t take risks like this with small kids

TheShellBeach · 26/02/2024 00:10

Resp. rate is very concerning.

As is the 92% sats.

Take him to A and E.

MaloneMeadow · 26/02/2024 00:18

OP - why ask for advice if you are going to simply ignore every poster telling you that your son needs to be taken to A&E now. Why are you endangering him by waiting around on 111? Incredibly irresponsible of you

Have his pulse and breathing come down?

Mumoftwo2022 · 26/02/2024 00:57

Update rung 111 they sent us to out of hours they said A&E not needed when I gave them the details sent me to out of hours seen really quickly. Said high heart rate is only a concern if they don’t know wants causing it said because he had high temp that is why it was high by the time we were seen his temperature had come down quite a bit and heart rate too. Doctor happy with him said to keep eye on him but it’s a viral infection and should be back to normal in next couple of days.
Thanks for some of your advice and for the others that said I was irresponsible for not going to A&E I was actually trying to do the right thing and not waste time when there is a doctor shortage.
main thing is little man is ok just got to ride it out . Night night x

Please take him back if he worsens . I was fobbed off many times and my son actually had double pneumonia

It's such a worry with little ones

DistingusedSocialCommentator · 26/02/2024 09:28

Thank you for the update and I hope DC is feeling better today. I'm also glad you was seen quickly via out of hours route

Mumoftwo2022 · 26/02/2024 17:56

So today has been worse than yesterday! Soooo hard when they are pooorly. Think if he is still spiking temps tomorrow I’ll go to the gp. Out of hours dr last night said viral but tomorrow will be day 5 of temps and this afternoon it has been 40.5+ poor little fella is wiped out!

If you're not happy with him then don't be afraid to get him seen again - listen to your instincts.

mothertrucking · 26/02/2024 19:07

A&E

Enigma52 · 26/02/2024 19:09

Agree with previous poster.
You can't take chances with young children at all.
Fingers crossed he picks up soon.

thaegumathteth · 26/02/2024 19:13

Honestly OP I would NOT be wanting until tomorrow . Sometimes we have to advocate for our kids as parents.

seriouslygettingold · 26/02/2024 19:17

Please take him to A&E, he has been poorly for too long. I had to take my girl back 4 times, they kept saying it was viral. She had pneumonia in both lungs which was diagnosed after x-ray on 4th visit.

CrabbyCat · 26/02/2024 19:37

In case it's helpful, this are the NHS criteria they should be following, and what they have certainly used to triage my under 5 in A&E. We have out of hours GPs in my county not urgent care centres, and the out of hours GPs have always directed us to A&E once DC has amber flag symptoms. Obviously the heart rate / oxygen saturation want to be after you've dosed them up to the max on Calpol / Nurofen - but if maxing them out isn't enough to control the temperature and your DS still has a high heart and low oxygen then A&E is the right place to go.
