Chicken pox pock marks- the after scars!

LilyPad150 · 10/07/2023 16:27

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any before and after photos of their children’s pox scars?

DD had CP a month ago and has four large holes in her forehead. I know they won’t go and will fade but just wondering what they could look like from experience?

They are much redder and deeper than in the pic.

I am down a rabbit hole over this. Any before and afters would be greatly appreciated!

DD was worse than that. Most of them completely went, but one (by her eyebrow) there is a tiny indent. No one notices unless she points it out.

LilyPad150 · 10/07/2023 18:00

@MargaretThursday thanks so much for your reply.

Can I ask about timescale wise? Did it take a year for them to disappear or was there a noticable difference before that?

The scars are around 1-2mm deep and 4mm wide.

The only scars my two have are from the first pockmark they got. It's weird that none of the rest of them scarred

Have you looked into silicone gel? You only use a tiny scrape of gel and it takes months- but might be worth looking into. Obviously checking how soon after the scarring you can use it, and dependent on your childs age. You can buy online or from larger pharmacies.

My daughter has one like that right in the middle of her forehead, unfortunately still very obvious and it's been over five years. It's part of her though. I just hope she doesn't get self conscious about it as she gets older.

My DD had chicken pox in April. She was 11 months at the time and it was absolutely awful. Barely any visible skin, and huge spots. She still has marks, but they no longer look like the ones in your picture, they have faded pretty well. She had a really bad one on her forehead where the scan came off a bit early but it's much less noticeable now.

@LilyPad150
I'm really sorry, but I can't remember. She had chickenpox at 6 months and she's 19yo now!
They turn skin colour quite quickly, if I remember rightly. Because you know they're there, then you'll see them more if that makes sense.

@CC4712 thanks for the advice, have looked into silicone gel and apparently only good for raised scars rather than sunken ones 😫

No worries @MargaretThursday thank you anyway.

Anything with vitamin E also good, I used shea butter but am sure there are other things that would work

LilyPad150 · 10/07/2023 20:32

Fab thanks @Chikoletta

Eight weeks after chickenpox, she still has the scars on her stomach, but they were really big open sores, the deeper ones on her face faded completely after a year, she's got some faint marks in that picture

DD had CP three years ago. She has two remaining noticeable indents, both on her face but they are completely skin coloured now so not so noticeable. I have to admit that I do hope they might fade further over time though!

LilyPad150 · 12/07/2023 20:42

Thanks @ThreadExterminator .. hope they fade for her and my DD 🤞🏼

My daughter has just had chicken pox quite severely and has been left with a couple of sunken indents on her face. Like you, I’m really upset with myself and I wish I’d have vaccinated her privately even though we did everything we could have done to prevent scarring (she didn’t scratch, used poxclin and bathed her in oatmeal twice a day). I really don’t want her to be scarred for life. Please do let me know if you find anything miraculous! I’m going to start with bio oil.

It's life, everyone has scars from chicken pox. Later it will be acne. Stretch marks are really common too. Take a close look at film stars and models, they all have skin "flaws". It's sad and upsetting now with you beautiful perfect babies, but it's not really important, and most marks fade over time, and will not be noticed by anyone unless you point them out.

LilyPad150 · 27/07/2023 08:01

@SneezyEvie I know exactly how you are feeling, try not to be too hard on yourself though. We are a few weeks down the line now since I started to ‘treat’ DD’s scars and I already see a small improvement. I use dermatix silicone gel twice a day on the deep ones on her forehead but just moisturise the rest (recommended by a fellow mumsnetter who had been in a similar position). Seems to be doing something 🤞🏼
@KnittedCardi thanks, deep down I do know this but currently still in the ‘what have I done phase!’ … it is starting to pass and become part of normal life.

Updating incase anyone stumbles across this thread with the same issue thanks to chicken pox.

It has only been a month since my post but already starting to see an improvement in DDs scars. They are now less red and are starting to fill in a little.

I have been massaging once a day (only for about 2 mins as that is all I can get away with 😅) and applying silicone gel. I also apply a light moisturiser at night.

Small steps, but much more hopeful now that they will become a lot less obvious with time.

I had one in the middle of my forehead for a long time, only obvious to my parents who knew what it was.

Someday it just wasn't there.

They fade brilliantly even when you do nothing.
