Anyone else have a very pale child?

Just this really.
my dd6 is sooooo pale. As in Snow White pale. Every time we see a dr whatever reason (tonsillitis, uti, normal viruses) they all immediately say “she’s anaemic” and order bloods. I’ve had 2 pretty amazed when they came back normal, and worst one was a junior dr who prepared me for leukaemia die to a cough + pallor.
she does look Ill, she is very pale with dark eye circles that appear when she’s tired. But she is ok! i increasingly (madly) find myself looking in envy at ruddy / olive /rosy skinned kids as they just look so healthy!
she has also been tested for coeliac as is
small for age but that was clear too.
i just hate that she looks poorly when she’s not. It makes me second guess all the time and wonder if she is ☹️

I'm very pale and so are my daughters, it's just our skin tone.
My teenager looked orange trying out ivory shade foundation, she would be porcelain shade if she wore make-up.

Kyse · 29/04/2023 22:38

I'm really pale and go blue around my mouth if I'm cold or unwell

It used to be
Doctor "she's very pale"
Dad "no that's just her skin"
Doctor "I think she's iron deficient"
Dad "IT IS JUST HER SKIN" Grin

teateateaandcake · 29/04/2023 22:40

Both mine are pale - when they're unwell they go what I describe as a see-through grey colour. People often comment that they look pale (as in ill), but it's just their normal. They are perfectly fit and healthy.

But, I'm Scottish with dark auburn hair and skin that burns. They are both fair haired and very pale. None of us tan ever, and we all have to be careful in the sun because we all burn easily even with factor 50 sunscreen.

Not unwell, it's just our skin tone.

Forgive creepy pic 😂but tried to colour out eyes for anonymity but keep in the circles that are always there (but get way worse when tired)

Am I the only one who doesn't think she looks that pale? I am way paler than this.

Kyse · 29/04/2023 22:44

Here's me as a child with my grandad who is more olive colouring
You can see the colour difference Grin

My son is very pale. Same as me. I can see his veins through his skin really easily. Just genetic.

RelentlessMother · 29/04/2023 22:50

I’m not white.
Often when I see the children at my kids school I think to myself “bloody hell these children are so pale” I never knew that white had so many shades. pale, grey, pastel, yellow….

TiredOfCleaning · 29/04/2023 22:57

My older one is so white he is blue. he has food issues though (he is under a paediatric dietician) and i can see his veins.

Not sure if there is anthing underlying as he has not been checked beyond heart etc. But it can be alarming when I see him next to other children at swimming etc.

I'm very pale. So is one of my children.

I'm glad you weren't at the school gates judging us.

mackthepony · 29/04/2023 23:01

Is she outside plenty?

RelentlessMother · 29/04/2023 23:03

@wordsthreerandom must be awful being judged for being pale. I wouldn’t know as my ancestors where being whipped instead….

That's a bit off topic really...
I'm pale, have been judged/name called for it and white but my ancestors were slaves

I guess I'm saying looking at someone's skin doesn't tell you their background

Nat6999 · 29/04/2023 23:06

Ds is always very pale, always has been, he is very fair with blonde hair that goes white in the sun, he burns if he is in the sun for 5 minutes. Like your dc, he had to have tests for anaemia which came back normal as a child.

RelentlessMother · 29/04/2023 23:08

@Kyse maybe. But I’m talking about myself.

Yvetty · 29/04/2023 23:09

I’m the opposite - fair with rosy cheeks. I bloody hate them!! People always commented on them when I was younger. I Always wished I could be pale.

wordsthreerandom · 29/04/2023 23:13

Totally off topic.
My remark wasn't mentioning ancestors just the here and now and being judged for our skin colour being pale/grey/pastel/yellow.

Hairbrushhandle · 29/04/2023 23:14

I'd ask for the specifics on the bloods as I'm in some anemia groups online and it's very frequent that posters are told their iron is fine when it's actually very low. Also just because her diet is rich in iron doesn't mean she is absorbing is correctly.

If she's got eye circles how are her adenoids?

wordsthreerandom · 29/04/2023 23:15

Back on topic I hope your daughter is well, I don't wish for the thread to be de-railed

wobblymum1 · 29/04/2023 23:16

She’s outside lots, she’s gets plenty of fresh air. But nothing happens to her at that point - her friends all get a lovely rosy glow and she just stays….pale!
laughing at whoever said they hated their rosy cheeks- I think I’d give my left arm for her to have some colour in them! And such prominent veins in her forehead too.
Really nice to know it’s not just her xx

I don’t think you can see adenoids without a dr looking in wit my a special instrument, is that right? But she doesn’t snore which I think is a sign of enlarged adenoids? tho again could be wrong.
i know her tonsils are normal, she’s had tonsillitis twice I think but even then they weren’t huge.

ah I didn’t think about the absorption of that food. Good point. She is small for her age - Havers between 9th + 25th centiles for weight and is petite despite having what I’d class as a fairly good appetite and diet (overall)

interestingly my dd goes blue around lips if she’s gets very cold in a pool. Scared the heck out of me the first time it happened.

Really I don't think being pale is a worry.
I'm pale. Just random Celtic genes appearing.

Cucamelons · 29/04/2023 23:26

Could it be down to blood type? I’m rhesus negative and am stupid pale, blonde, burn in the sun etc. one of my kids is rhesus neg too, plus freckles, burns immediately in the sun. The other two kids are rhesus positive and don’t have the super pale, light hair, skin burn problem (husband is rhesus positive) and have much darker skin tone
