DLA Mandatory Reconsideration 2023

Mumofboysteamginge · 11/02/2023 10:58

Hi, I’ve been following the DLA wait times thread since I applied for my 7 year old son in October. We had the decision yesterday and it was declined 😭 I was absolutely devastated.

We applied because my son was involved in a serious RTC (we were going on holiday with our friends, he wanted to travel in their car following us, a car came round a bend missed us but hit them head on) understandably he struggles with the fact he was the only one in the car and blames us for letting him in there). He was the only one awake and conscious in the vehicle, he has chronic flashbacks, normal everyday life things (sirens, bangs, travelling, weather conditions and so on are triggers) they send him into a state of survival and all his rational thinking is gone. Nights are horrendous for him, he lives like his life is in constant threat, he fights sleep and often gets dressed in the middle of the night so he’s ready should anything bad happen. Flashbacks are more prominent through the night.

school are aware of his issues. Now he’s under CAMHS school have been asked to stop any mental health interventions as this could interrupt the trauma therapy. hes happy at school because of the structure and routine, no real unpredictability etc.

anyway I’ve done this tread for anyone going through MR and hope we can all support each other through the process!

xxx

Great news when did you do the mandatory reconsideration?

Mojo161989 · 19/01/2024 13:35

Currently on hold to them now as its been 8 weeks 2 days since I started the MR I just hope they haven't made the decision without my extra evidence xox

Mojo161989 · 19/01/2024 14:36

Got through after an hour and a half, got through security questions just to be cut off!! Ahh so frustrating they should call you back, have to wait again now. This is so mentally exhausting xox

Talk2bola21 · 19/01/2024 19:17

Hi. Did you manage to get through please? My timeline for MR is the same as yours and I haven’t heard a thing. I am scared to ring, don’t want to be told off 🫣

Mojo161989 · 19/01/2024 20:08

@Talk2bola21 hi, yes I finally got through and they said that they were waiting for my evidence to arrive before it was looked at. They said it would have been done at 7 weeks otherwise so might be worth giving them a call for an update if you've been waiting 8 weeks. Good luck. Xox

Jneill2021 · 22/01/2024 09:26

Keddie · 22/01/2024 09:27

Jneill2021 · 22/01/2024 09:33

@Keddie that's terrible I really hope you hear soon I really don't understand why Mr's are taking so long usually there pretty quick xx

Keddie · 22/01/2024 09:41

@Jneill2021 I am fully expecting another decline now. Have you heard at all? xx

Jneill2021 · 22/01/2024 10:22

@Keddie fingers crossed not , not a thing might give them a call today xx

Good morning, I got through this morning after about 50 minutes, my MR was signed for on the 11th December but I've not heard a thing so rang to check it was on the system. The guy was helpful, although it had been put through as a new claim. I explained and he looked into it and changed it to a MR, he did say they are taking around 7 weeks, he said I should hear by the end of next week, although I'm wondering now if it will take longer with it just being changed today. He did say they dont usually send acknowledgement for an MR like they do a new claim. Hopefully I'll hear soon, I worked with citizens advice to help fill in the MR, she did say if it's declined again take it to tribunal as my daughter meets criteria but I'm keeping everything positive that the evidence will overturn the decision at this stage.

Keddie · 22/01/2024 10:31

@82cem @Jneill2021 I had a letter last week saying 15 weeks. ut I have spoke to them several times and they know its for MR. They always advise over the phone 7 weeks which should be this week for me. But now i am wondering have they put it back in as a new claim?? x

Jneill2021 · 22/01/2024 10:47

@Keddie I shouldn't think so especially where you have had contact with them I'm 7 weeks this week the waiting is driving me crazy I just want to no if I have to take it to tribunal fingers crossed not xx if your worried maybe just ring them to make sure it's still down as Mr xx
