6 month old shakes when she wakes up

mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:21

She never did this before. She bumped her soft spot whilst sitting about 2 weeks ago, a day later her soft spot was raised and firm. It is still raised, but it is a lot softer than it was and I can feel the bones surrounding her soft spot now.

But I’ve noticed in the past few days she seems to shake when she wakes up and her eyes go wide, as if she’s shocked. When I touch her head she does the same, not all the time. But sometimes.

Do these sound like seizures or anything to worry about? I would attach a video if I could. Next time she wakes up I’ll try to film it

This is defo one to contact the GP about. But my daughter used to do this periodically at a similar age, and the GP said that in her case it was just "an immature nervous system".

mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:27

@Mafelicent Yeah I was thinking of booking a gp appointment, either that or taking her to A&E but they just dismiss us each time so I think I’ll not bother with A&E again

I’m hoping it’s that. She does shake when she’s excited too which is normal in my opinion since she always has done it, but the waking from sleep thing is new so it worries me

Definitely video. Check her pupils too. Do they dilate when it happens?

mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:31

@Geneticsbunny i haven’t noticed. What does it mean if they dilate?

My son did this. Sometimes it lasted a min or so. I must admit I never thought much of it! Just thought it was shock at waking up.

Emmamoo89 · 29/01/2023 17:32

Video it and see your GP

Emmamoo89 · 29/01/2023 17:33

Did it start after bumping her soft spot?

Kanaloa · 29/01/2023 17:35

Filming it for mumsnet won’t help - speak to the GP or (if you can get hold of them) health visitor or similar. Sometimes it’s useful to poll mumsnet for opinions, like wondering whether a new pair of boots is nice or if there is anywhere good to eat in Morecambe, but sometimes it’s time to seek proper professional help rather than random people’s opinions.

Each time? So you took her initially?

No film it for the doctor to see not mumsnet 🙄

mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:43

@Emmamoo89 it started about 3 days ago but she bumped her soft spot 2 weeks ago. It might not be connected

OP posts:
mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:44

@Kanaloa i didn’t mean film it for mumsnet… all I’m doing is asking if anybody else experienced it with their babies. It helps to hear stuff from other people

OP posts:
mommgee · 29/01/2023 17:45

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor yeah I took her regarding her soft spot and they said she’s fine as long as there’s no head injury symptoms, which there’s not.

but I’ve taken her in since about this and I got dismissed.

Presumably when the op said ‘I would attach a video if I could’ she didn’t mean she’d attach it and @ in her GP. That’s what I was referring to.

I would take it that she's fine then if she's been checked multiple times.

Fair enough

I just always feel it’s a bit mad to be asking on mumsnet/talking about uploading videos of serious things like a small baby banging their head then having what you think may be seizures! Mumsnet is good for a lot of things, but a bunch of random going ‘oh my baby did that and it was fine’ just isn’t helpful. I actually think mumsnet should crack down on it a bit more - if a small baby had a head injury then is displaying odd behaviour real medical advice is needed, not me sitting in my kitchen going ‘eh it sounds fine!’

Yeah it's definitely not good for that. If concerned go straight to GP or hospital

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 29/01/2023 21:03

Nobody said anything about videoing it for Mumsnet. Video for the GP or hospital which is a good suggestion.

mommgee · 29/01/2023 21:06

@Kanaloa i understand that.. but she has been taken in 4 times now and it’s not as if I’m sitting here just relying on strangers opinions .. because I’m not. I’m going to call the drs in the morning. I’ve taken her to A&E 4 times as I’ve said and they’ve looked her over but that’s it. There’s nothing else to be done in the mean time except ask if others have experienced it and what their outcome was

OP posts:
Geneticsbunny · 29/01/2023 21:06

Yep. I didn't mean put the video on Mumsnet. Obviously video it for doctors. My DS had epilepsy when he was younger and his pupils often dilated when he had a seizure. That was why I mentioned it.

mommgee · 29/01/2023 21:07

@Geneticsbunny ah gotcha im going to have to check next time she does it.

Again, I was responding to the op, who said she would ‘attach a video if she could’ and would ‘try to film it.’ Implying (to me) that she would film it to attach to this thread. I was saying attaching videos to a mumsnet thread is unlikely to be helpful in the case of a medical emergency.

If you have already been seen several times by medical professionals, have they been told of the shaking? You say that only started a few days ago.

Darthwazette · 30/01/2023 11:38

My son did the same, he’s 9 now but I remember because I was so worried at the time. I had a very kind GP who I was seeing for PND at the time and she spoke to me right away and said it doesn’t sound like anything to worry about. I think he must’ve grown out of it at some point!

I’m not saying don’t get checked out but just wanted to offer some reassurance that it could be nothing.

ItsCalledAConversation · 30/01/2023 11:41

OP why did you take your DD to A&E 4 times over something that was neither an accident or an emergency? You’re not putting your DD in the best situation to be cared for there. You need a GP appointment stat.
