RASH GETTING WORSE SEE ATTACHED PICS

hopefully2019 · 26/01/2023 21:40

hi guys.

Rash started 8th December.
Started slight rash and now it's turned to this.
Took to GP 9th December and said chicken pox.
Went back 21st and told chicken pox again.

Went back New Year's Eve to near walk in centre and it was hand foot and mouth and fungal Infecfion on scalp, sent home with antibiotics.
Went back to GP 8th January and was told its impetigo. More antibiotics but 250mg this time of penicillin
7 weeks later, 2 lots of antibiotics, 3 different creams and were suffering badly.
Back to GP and told its psoriasis- told no meds or creams will help and it'll take 4 months to clear.

ITS GETTING WORSE DAILY!

GP is fobbing us off.

Does it look like psoriasis ? Should I take her back again?
She is drinking and eating fine. No other symptoms but itching and not sleeping because shes so uncomfortable. I feel so sad I can't help her.

OP, ask for a referral to a dermatologist if the GP you see next isn't confident of a diagnosis. Your DC needs and deserves treatment asap.

Correct info here.

determinedtomakethiswork · 26/01/2023 22:04

That looks so sore.

I have psoriasis and it looks absolutely nothing like that. There's usually a thin white layer on top, which is missing there.

I would go yo a pharmacy if you can't get to your doctor.

justmewithmylifetoday · 26/01/2023 22:06

I'd push for a dermatology appt with GP. I'd ask if they can mark it as urgent as we're in the middle of a 10 month wait for my daughter's routine dermatology referral. Referred august last year, appt is for June this year.... !

Hope your lo improves and you get some answers it looks so uncomfortable poor thing.

justmewithmylifetoday · 26/01/2023 22:08

Also I agree with PP. Psoriasis looks nothing like that imo. It has a white crusty layer on top and is more scaly?

bayr · 26/01/2023 22:10

Im a doctor.. I don't know for sure what it is to be honest but i don't think it's psoriasis. I would insist on a dermatology referral. I would probably do some investigations for vasculitis.

Ponderoveryonder · 26/01/2023 22:20

Guttate psoriasis (sometimes triggered by a strep infection) can look this way… I wouldn’t dismiss that idea entirely. Have you looked at images of guttate psoriasis to compare ?
it’s very different from normal psoriasis.

OneFrenchEgg · 26/01/2023 22:21

You poor thing and poor dc. Awful not to know what it is so you can't treat it.
If you are going back is it worth thinking through some additional questions/info:

Do they ever heal and go and fresh ones appear?
Any preceding illness?
Pus, fluid etc ?

I don't know just trying to see if you can get a really detailed referral to dermatology. We paid £180 privately for dc as we're concerned about their face and it was worth it.

PrincessButtercupp · 26/01/2023 22:21

I think that looks like impetigo. Keep going back until someone does something x

piedbeauty · 26/01/2023 22:22

Doesn't look like psoriasis to me. Looks nothing like mine.

You need a referral to a dermatologist. Good luck.

poppym12 · 26/01/2023 22:25

Did the doctor mention guttate psoriasis? That looks different to the plaque type.

MenaiMna · 26/01/2023 22:28

I have many of the adult types of psoriasis. When it really needs soothing I use an OTC nappy creme called drapolene. Even on my face, it's very gentle- might tide you over til a good GP takes you seriously?

slipperypenguin · 26/01/2023 22:31

@hopefully2019 we had something pretty similair with our son when he turned one. The rash looks very similair - I will PM you.

We had all the same various diagnoses just like you have and in the end went private to a dermatologist. He prescribed a strong steroid and told us to put it on heavily and avoid the "use sparingly because it may thin the skin" warning. His argument was skin in such a state needs a complete blasting with a steroid to clear it and that's going to be less impactful than using a steroid sparingly for a longer time.

That coupled with the use of an oat based moisturiser, zinc medicated stockings (zip zocks ) and medicated pyjamas we finally got on top of it. It's never fully went away and still flares up even now 7 years later but it's much more managable.

I'll send you some pics and maybe you can compare if you think it's similair

mrsfeatherbottom · 26/01/2023 22:33

Definitely get to see a dermatologist- it looks a bit like when my DD had herpeticum which was misdiagnosed at first by GP. Although DD found it very painful and already had bad eczema. It's caused by the herpes virus and antivirals were needed. I could be wrong but it does look similar.

Spudina · 26/01/2023 22:34

You really do need a referral. Do you or your partner have cold sores? My DD2 caught eczema herpaticum. (Excuse the spelling) and it looked a bit like that. DH had a cold sore and kissed her on the cheek. She had eczema on her cheek and we didn’t know it. She got this systemic herpes virus. She needed urgent anti-viral treatment. Hope you get answers soon. Have the lesions been swabbed? If it is viral it would show up.

BunchHarman · 26/01/2023 23:15

I’d bypass the GP and pay for a private dermatology consultant. Near me, at the Nuffield, the appointment is £110. Not insignificant, but you’ll be seen within a couple of days. There may be ongoing tests and treatments, incurring additional costs, or there may not. You’ll probably walk out with a very good idea what’s wrong, rather than a GP’s guesses.

mrsfeatherbottom · 02/02/2023 15:50

@hopefully2019 Just wondering how your LO is?

hopefully2019 · 02/02/2023 22:41

@hopefully2019 Just wondering how your LO is?

it was HSV virus. She ended up in hospital for 5 days on IV drips and antibiotic shots. Thank you for asking! She’s much better now, thank you. X
