RASH GETTING WORSE SEE ATTACHED PICS

hopefully2019 · 26/01/2023 21:40

hi guys.

Rash started 8th December.
Started slight rash and now it's turned to this.
Took to GP 9th December and said chicken pox.
Went back 21st and told chicken pox again.

Went back New Year's Eve to near walk in centre and it was hand foot and mouth and fungal Infecfion on scalp, sent home with antibiotics.
Went back to GP 8th January and was told its impetigo. More antibiotics but 250mg this time of penicillin
7 weeks later, 2 lots of antibiotics, 3 different creams and were suffering badly.
Back to GP and told its psoriasis- told no meds or creams will help and it'll take 4 months to clear.

ITS GETTING WORSE DAILY!

GP is fobbing us off.

Does it look like psoriasis ? Should I take her back again?
She is drinking and eating fine. No other symptoms but itching and not sleeping because shes so uncomfortable. I feel so sad I can't help her.

Yes, I’d say psoriasis. But it does need treatment.

Motnight · 26/01/2023 21:41

No advice but hope you get to the bottom of it soon, Op.

bellswithwhistles · 26/01/2023 21:42

Oh gosh that looks so painful Sorry, sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly but if it were me, I would ask to be referred ASAP to Dermatology for an emergency appointment ( and not move til they've done that!)

hothands · 26/01/2023 21:42

It does look like psoriasis but I also think it needs treatment. I'm not sure it will go away on its own.

KangarooKenny · 26/01/2023 21:42

Have you tried an antihistamine to help the itching ?

We've removed this post as it contains an identifiable photo of a child.

hopefully2019 · 26/01/2023 21:43

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We have tried piriton and phinagons. They help her sleep but don't soothe the itching. I'm glad you are all agreeing with psoriasis and it's not something worse. Thanks again. All

I think you need to go back to a different GP if possible.

We've seen three different ones now and it's always a different diagnosis

Obviously don’t use any bubble bath, but I wonder if running the bath water through oats in a sock ( like for eczema) would help ?

NoSun · 26/01/2023 21:46

Could it be some sort of cold sore type virus ?

Can I ask what information you've gathered about the child please from her picture?
Easily identifiable, by a picture ? What information have you gathered then? Address? Name? DOB? Blood type?

This is handy to know. Thank you- I really appreciate that! It would be good to show GP :)

OP, ask for a referral to a dermatologist if the GP you see next isn't confident of a diagnosis. Your DC needs and deserves treatment asap.

IceReckon · 26/01/2023 21:48

Our DD has eczema and has had rashes like that, however not on her face.
The gp has prescribed antibiotics (flucloxacillin) sometimes, and hydrocortisone cream each time when it's been like that depending on whether it's infected or not.
Our DS had a lesser amount but similar pattern of spots a few years back too which was impetigo, that was on his face and legs and again needed antibiotics.
With that level of rash if you can't get a gp appointment tomorrow I would be taking DC to the closest out of hours unit. Someone needs to see him before it leads to a bad infection.

Chihuahuasrule · 26/01/2023 21:48

Pityriasis rosea can last for several wees. Usually triggered by a viral infection

Thank you! I will be doing this first thing. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking she needs medical attention. I didn't want to be deemed as crazy for taking her out of ours. It was a plan of mine anyway tbh

Absolutely this. The GP's just don't know what it is, not sure what waiting times are like for kids on the nhs though.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 26/01/2023 21:52

It does look like psoriasis but I'd be asking for a hospital referral because they can do light treatment on it x

Ahh, I didn't know they could do light treatment. Hopefully better than the creams and antibiotics(that won't even work anyway lol). Definitely taking her tomorrow. Z

Hi OP. I’m a doctor and wonder if this is Gianotti-Crosti syndrome. Only seen it a few times as it’s rare (but harmless though itchy).

dermnetnz.org/topics/papular-acrodermatitis-of-childhood

i don’t think it looks like psoriasis and the pattern is wrong for psoriasis.

To be fair, your GP is not fobbing you off, they’ve tried lots of treatments.

Thanks Dr. Handy to know! Going to have a good research now.

most likely caused by a simple virus (you’ll read about hepatitis causing it but that’s really really unlikely if she’s well so don’t worry about that)

ittakes2 · 26/01/2023 22:01

My son's dermatologist recommended this website to check his rashes. dermnetnz.org/
