Lymph nodes in little girls neck

catmommyoftwo · 10/01/2023 11:31

I'm concerned about finding a lump in little ones neck dr says it's raised lymph nodes and she found another 2. She has been unwell with one thing and another throughout December- the dr says to return in 2 weeks to have them examined and potentially have blood tests if they have not gone. Now I have the worry for two weeks what it could be- any body else experienced this ??

Yes this was me and my son in April last year. GP initially didn't seem concerned but referred for an ultrasound anyway just to be sure and it turned out to be enlarged lymph nodes.

I would say most of the time lumps and bumps are worrying but mostly harmless.

Are the lumps solid and hard, or soft and movable?

catmommyoftwo · 10/01/2023 11:45

Okay that is reassuring to me Thankyou... did he have to have blood tests to or just the ultrasound ?

It seems squishy she won't let me touch it really but it's not hard x x

Just the ultrasound and the US tech told me straight away what she saw (which was that it was harmless) so I wasn't waiting for the GP call which was appreciated as I was, like you, quite worried.
Easy to say but try not to as soft lumps, especially if she's been unwell,do sound a lot like enlarged lymph nodes.
Good luck keep me updated if you remember

Had the same thing with my DD several years ago, dr sent her for blood test and then sent her for ultra sound after blood test results came in . I think he said something along the lines of whilst the blood test results weren't alarming or worrying in themselves a couple of them were 'borderline' so he wanted a scan to double check . Scan was fine and was also told there and then that it was totally harmless and just an enlarged lymph node.

Okay Thankyou so much for replies
I think it's the 2 week wait which is just frustrating you wish they would do something immediately it gives me terrible anxiety!

Hopefully we have the same outcome- and I will keep you updated x

Exactly this with my 6 year old right now. Gp said he could feel 3 on the right side that were firm. He said I could wait 2 weeks for them to go down or refer for a blood test. I thought the blood test would be quicker (it wasn’t!!). He had tonsilitis at the time. They went down within a few days - had a friend who’s a dr examine him and said he couldn’t feel anything. Saw another gp 2 weeks later as tonsilitis was back who didn’t seem concerned as there was an infection!

Blood test is next week. Nodes are down but it’s the fact he said they were firm that’s worried me.

Is she unwell at the mo? I read they come up when unwell and can take weeks to go down, sometimes even longer

catmommyoftwo · 10/01/2023 16:08

Ohhh gosh poor you- everything is taking so long at the moment with dr
How are ur boys now are they still there or are they gone??

She has been poorly all over December with a nasty virus then she had conjunctivitis in both eyes over Xmas and new year and then another common cold which has only just started to clear up- I wouldn't say she is unwell now though x

They’ve gone now but I keep feeling!!! My doctor friend who examined him said reactive nodes are totally normal but I keep thinking of the “firm” comment the gp made

NestingSparrow · 13/01/2023 21:51

They wouldn’t want to do anything straight away - it’s extremely common as they enlarge when your body is fighting off an infection. It’s best to wait and see how f they go down on their own (by far the most like result).

mulberrybag5 · 14/01/2023 19:25

my Little ones have gone down but still wants a blood test to see what the cause of the tonsilitis is

Thea91 · 17/01/2023 23:40

I took my son the GP in Dec for lumps in his neck , went back 2 weeks later and they were almost gone so GP wasn't worried . However back up now as he has tonsillitis.

I suffer really bad with my lymph nodes , and they swell really bad if I am slightly sick or have a canker sore and are pretty painful. A consultant told me some people are just more susceptible to them swelling when sick .

Try not to worry x

Remmy123 · 18/01/2023 10:19

My son has these and they are raised now as he is under the weather they are pretty big but was all scanned years ago and all fine!

catmommyoftwo · 18/01/2023 20:05

Thankyou all for your comments it's definitely reassuring for me- I can still feel my daughters to and definitely been over 2 weeks. We're back to Dr Wednesday so I expect she will book bloods in.
X

I’ve one in my neck that has been raised since I was a baby. It’s likely they may not go down completely (esp if you keep checking them) and will be nothing to worry about.

Binfluencer · 18/01/2023 20:09

Oh goodness my daughter used to have enormous lumps in her neck, whenever she'd been ill or just fighting something off. Honestly you could see them from metres away. All the time. She's 8 and grown out of it.

Your daughter is extremely likely to be fine, the doc is just doubling checking

catmommyoftwo · 25/01/2023 11:15

UPDATE-
Been to drs today- she has booked us in for full blood count and a ultrasound scan
Just got to wait for appointments now to come through

Ruchi1 · 24/09/2023 21:25
