Under her iris there is an off white line, about 1 mm thick, just below not all round, white of eye is blood shot under it, she says it’s a bit sore and she can see fine.

Google has drawn a blank, feel she needs to see someone, not sure GP or optician, not sure how urgent it is? Any ideas?

I don't think it's iritis. I've had it and it was excruciating every time I blinked. I got someone to take me to eye casualty immediately because it was impossible to do or concentrate on anything due to intense pain. I'd honestly rather break a bone than go through that again.

How did it go @wonderstuff ?

wonderstuff · 09/01/2023 18:02

Dr said inflammation, prescribed steroid drops and a moisture drop, prescription for 4 weeks but he wants to see us in a week, said don’t worry she’ll be fine.

As someone with multiple retinal issues etc you will be better off seeing an optician rather than a doctor. A doctor won’t have the correct equipment to examine the eye correctly. If you need the eye clinic at your nearest hospital the optician can make the arrangements. A doctor can usually only diagnose superficial eye infections - something like this will probably need eye drops to anaesthetise the eye and dilate the pupils and then a proper look at the front and back of the eye with ophthalmological equipment.

I’d agree. I’ve had vitreous detachment and degeneration. First time it happened went to GP as very scary…he sent me to Optician. Optician referred me urgently to hospital ophthalmic . Didn’t wait in A&E long as optician had already said in his letter what needed doing, so they sent me to an urgent ophthalmic exam in the eye clinic straight away …I was in and out in less than 1 hour.

Final update - had letter through from ophthalmologist and diagnosis is limbitis.

Steroid drops are doing their thing and already looks much better.

Good news.

That’s great. I’m glad she’s feeling better.
however, limbitis just means that there is inflammation on the junction between the cornea and the conjunctiva. Which we could see already. It’s not a diagnosis, just a clinical
sign.

keep an eye on it. I’d also keep going with the lubricating drops too. It’s a bit of a strange thing to happen in a normal child, who doesn’t wear contact lenses.
