Could be. Is she showing any symptoms of Lyme’s?
She should see a GP if she has either one of the following:

-flu-like symptoms – such as feeling hot and shivery, headaches, aching muscles or feeling sick, or
-a round or oval shape rash

NHS sheet on tick bites
www.nhs.uk/conditions/lyme-disease/

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:04

Thank you for your reply. She said it was itchy last night and this morning has woken up and it looks like that, it is also slightly swollen. No other symptoms

Has she been anywhere that she might have picked a tick up from? Also if she was wearing long sleeves it's less likely to be a tick bite.
Do you have pets? Is fleas a possibility?
Spiders do occasionally bite as well.
Treat with anti histamines if you have any and maybe a cold flannel to take down the itching.

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 01/01/2023 13:12

Lymes disease is easily treated if you catch it early (antibiotics) but can be life changing if left untreated (my friend lives with chronic Lymes and it is awful). If in doubt get it checked.
It could be a bite from any number of things, can't really tell from a photo accurately lets face it.

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:13

We do live by fields and do have pets, wouldn't have thought fleas as they are all treated and no one else in the family has any bites. It was the swelling and red circle round it that worried me

She said her arm was itchy last night and when she got up this morning was red and a bit swollen

ShillyShallySherbet · 01/01/2023 13:16

Does it look like there’s something under her skin? It’s hard to tell from the photo but it could be that there was a tick there and she’s scratched the body off and left the head in. Could you pop to a pharmacy for someone to check if any are open today? Or call 111 for advice?

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:28

It sort of looks like a scab. I have tried to contact a pharmacy but they all seem to be shut. I phoned 111 three times but they just keep cutting me off

It does look like she has scratched it. No tick head is meaningless because if it bit her without her noticing, it would have dropped off on its own after eating it’s fill.

It could be another insect bite, but as it’s unknown what bit her and you do live where ticks are present so I’d watch for any symptoms.

Onnabugeisha · 01/01/2023 13:30

If the red circle feels like a rash- bumpy skin. That’s one of the symptoms.

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:32

The red bit is raised

are you in the UK? Typically ticks are more active in the warmer months. Though I’d persevere with 111 and try for an appointment somewhere personally. Might be nothing but as PP have said Lymes Disease is no joke.
it helps (ironically) if you’re somewhere where tick bites are common - I am and out GPs don’t mess about if there’s a dodgy looking bite/rash - straight on the anti-Bs

Onnabugeisha · 01/01/2023 13:36

I’d try and get it checked. I think though it can wait until tomorrow morning if you are lucky enough to have a GP surgery that is operating and chances are you’d be seen right away. If your GP surgery is swamped and impossible to get an appointment, then I’d keep trying 111 to see if an out of hours solution is available. Even if one isn’t, I think 111 can send a note to your GP to ensure you get an appointment tomorrow that will jump you ahead of any phone queue.

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:39

We are in the UK. Just wasn't sure how quickly it needed seeing. I don't think our doctors is open till Tuesday

M’y husband has just removed a tick from my arm. We have cats and hens so I guess that is how I got it. My doctor said as long as the tick is complete and the head was no more than a pin, there is no need for antibiotics. Keep an eye on the swelling and if it gets any wider than that, I would see a doctor.

pinkhousesarebest · 01/01/2023 13:43

That looks like a spider bite to me.

If it is a tick bite either it has fell out or she has knocked it out which is another thing I was concerned about, it all being out

garlictwist · 01/01/2023 13:46

You wouldn't get Lymes symptoms straight away anyway.

I thought ticks weren't about in winter but I may be wrong.

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:47

I think I will just see how she goes then

OP posts:
Raindancer411 · 01/01/2023 13:48

Take her to a pharmacy to look at? The ones in Tesco are probably open but generally a tick bite is more of a bulls eye mark.

BadShepherd · 01/01/2023 13:48

It’s a myth that you don’t get ticks in the winter. I got bitten in December and diagnosed with Lyme in January. You can see ticks crawling on snow banks when the sun comes out.

pinkhousesarebest · 01/01/2023 13:52

We have all had tick bites and our doctor has always been very reassuring about them. As long as it is still red, you have time to see a Dr. Tuesday will be fine.

Mumofboys456 · 01/01/2023 13:52

I tried tesco pharmacy and morrisons but they was both shut

OP posts:
ArcticSkewer · 01/01/2023 13:55

Not a doctor

Have you given her an antihistamine? It looks like my kids when they were bitten eg mosquito, spider, horsefly and they react to it.

If you think it could be a tick though, then get antibiotics
