If you ever need to ask if there is a bug going around nursery the answer is always yes. There is always one thing or another they just get more immune to it the longer they are there.

Kitkatchunkyplease · 26/09/2021 15:35

It's like this when they start nursery, they catch everything and anything for the first year it seems!!

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 15:37

Oh god..to prepare myself.. xx i dreaded this exactly..speacilly after lockdowns where they havent been around anyone

Norovirus is rife in my area at the moment.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 26/09/2021 15:44

Accept it and know that they'll be off less when they go to school as they'll have built up their immune system.

Trinxsy · 26/09/2021 15:46

ds has been off nursery for a week with norovirus! He's been there three weeks and has attended a whole 4 days! It's one thing after another

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 15:47

@HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime i know, just making sure its not food poisoning..makes no sense tho if it was as havent eaten something 'risky'

Ex Nursery Manager here.

There are two kinds of parents: those who follow protocol and procedures and keep their children off Nursery for the recommended time when unwell and then there are those who will send their children into Nursery come what may.

Hence why there are always bugs in Nurseries.

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 15:52

@RogueV ugh hope youre ok now! My stomach is so so all the time so i didnt think much about it until son threw up .. winter seasons starting i guess...

@Burntfingerz i know 😕 the nursery even said one parent has covid but apparently kids dont have to isolate and continue attending... hope they have the brain to not let it attend until theyre ok...
But same with the baby/toddler groups, my kid always catching something when we go

We had 2 months of various different vomitting bugs when mine started nursery and that was pre covid. Since being back at school for 3 weeks my son has already had 2 vomiting bugs. Everything is going around everywhere at the moment!

It's rubbish isn't it! My tip: hand washing and lots and lots of it! Especially when getting out of Nursery and arriving home. Better still, give your child a shower/ bath. Takes no time at all.

Trust me, the amount of bacteria/ viruses on a child's hands is astonishing when they have attended a child care setting all day!

tigerbread20 · 26/09/2021 16:03

Yep, last week we had D & V bug followed by RSV this week. Oh the joys of back to school.

Ew, that's horrid. Do you give your child Probiotics? Lots of hand-washing as well is important.

Hope things improve .

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 16:22

They're constantly with hands in mouth at this age, no hand washing when i pick him up will save us. (Saying that i dont mean we dont lol)
What do u do then tho..do u keep them at home? Going to miss so much nursery if always at home if theres so many bugs ShockConfused

No you can't keep him at home. Especially when you are paying for it/ have to work.

There should be strict hygiene protocol in place at nursery : regular cleaning of equipment/ hand-washing especially after play / coming in from
Outside / after going to the toilet and before eating.
Lots of ventilation too- windows open at nursery and unwell kept off for the recommended period of time whilst remaining infectious.

I would also invest in a probiotic. Help strengthen immunity.

Good luck .

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 16:50

@Burntfingerz thank you! I'll have a look at vitamins and probiotics

How old is he?

Lindy2 · 26/09/2021 17:07

There's pretty much always a bug going around nurseries and September and October always seem to be the very worst times.

Somerandomgirl · 26/09/2021 17:07

@Hellocatshome 3.7 years

The most important thing is that he gets enough liquid. Small regular sips of some kind of juice is the best.

If he has any appetite something like toast is good but liquid is really all that matters if he won't eat. Even if he throws it up again you still keep offering the liquid.

It's horrible but it generally doesn't last many days. I find towels covering the bed sheets are helpful because you can remove and wash towels a lot easier than changing the bed all the time.

I hope he feels better soon.

Hellocatshome · 26/09/2021 17:13

Then yes give him endless amounts of juice to sip on and if he says he is hungry give him toast.
