Almost 8 year old boy with breast bud anyone else?

Has anyone’s son had a breast bud but no other signs of puberty?

My son currently has a lump under his nipple which paediatrics think is a breast bud but have said he is too young so they’re doing further tests as he’s not showing any other signs of puberty either.

Worried sick at the moment wondering what on Earth is wrong 😑

Couldn’t bare it if it was anything sinister 😭

@Vampyhooch1987 - it’s much more likely to be innocent/normal than anything sinister. Does your son say if it feels sensitive/tender? I hope you get some reassurance soon.

It isn’t bothering him at all. Not tender. Just thought I’d see if any other mums had experienced anything similar x

I'd love to know what I said that caused my post to be deleted. I do remember but not that there was anything controversial. Quite the opposite actually.

Inastatus · 17/06/2021 19:10

@Vampyhooch1987 - my DD had breast buds aged around 10 and I think it’s common for one side to form before the other. I never noticed anything on my DS but from what I’ve read about half of all boys experience it.

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 17/06/2021 19:10

8 isnt too young for puberty. I dont know why your doctor is saying that.
Boys often get breast development for a short time due to hormonal flushes. It's normal. They go away. I really wouldn't worry until you're told by your doctor that they've found someone unusual, because in all likelihood it's just normal puberty.

@Maggiesfarm - you really can’t work it out?? The OP is a worried mum looking for support/reassurance and your first comment is to take the piss out of her spelling!

joystir59 · 17/06/2021 19:14

Bear not bare

Inastatus · 17/06/2021 19:17

@joystir59 - oh FFS another one! Bloody MN and the spelling police!

I didn't. All that crossed my mind was that 1. the op was concerned about exposure to the sun, 2. she is worried that this little bump may be a cluster of malignant cells though she did not use those words. However it seems to be better to actually spell it out, then there can be no confusion.

  1. is easy, he just keeps covered which I doubt will be difficult, 2. if there was any fear of cancer, the medics would have done further investigations.

I did find it a bit nasty tbh

@Maggiesfarm - oh yeah, of course that’s how you meant it 🤔 It was very clear to me that the OP meant she couldn’t ‘bear’ it if it was anything sinister - she didn’t say anything about sun exposure! And the OP has said the medics are doing further tests.

Vampyhooch1987 · 17/06/2021 19:33

@maggiesfarm actually they are doing further investigations!!

Vampy, I am sorry but I haven't a clue what I said to upset you. Whatever it was, it was not intentional. I am a mother too, I understand parental worry.

All the best to you both anyway, I am sure you will be reassured in time.

After I first posted I looked up one or two things but I don't want to talk about those now, I expect you have done the same so I wouldn't be adding anything. Suffice to say there were no sinister indications.

berylandcynthia · 17/06/2021 19:39

Only on here can a mother's worries decent into an argument about spelling.

op in all likelihood it's nothing to worry about..hope you get some answers soon.

berylandcynthia · 17/06/2021 19:40

opps another one...waiting ....

Which spelling? I'm beginning to think it wasn't me and I was deleted in error. Well, not me exactly as I'm still here, but my first post. Nobody has told me.

Of course the op is worried, all parents would be.

am trying so hard to not...
Inastatus · 17/06/2021 20:17

@Maggiesfarm - of course it was you and your faux innocence is a bit ridiculous. I called you out and quoted your post and that was deleted too. You took the mickey because the OP mixed up her spelling of bare/bear and now you are trying to make out it’s because you thought she was worried about her DS exposing his chest to the sun!

Imasoulman · 17/06/2021 20:25

I had gynecomastia that developed when I was young, I can't remember the exact age but I think maybe 8 - 10

It was more pronounced on one side at first.

Librariesmakeshhhhappen · 17/06/2021 20:33

@Maggiesfarm

You knew exactly what the OP meant when she said she, "couldn't bare it."
Your post of all fake concern and reassuring her it could be exposed to the sun was purely designed to make her have to reply with some apology for using the wrong word. You wanted to humiliate her. You knew her post had nothing to do with being worried about exposing his chest to the sun.

I've been known to correct people on here when they consistently use the wrong word, but I'm just blunt about it. I don't go about making up fake concerns or being all wide eyed innocence pretending I dont understand what they clearly mean.

Musication · 17/06/2021 20:53

@Librariesmakeshhhhappen 8 is not too young for a girl, but it is theoretically precocious in a boy (before 9) so warrants further investigation. Op I wouldn't be worried as I expect it's a variant of normal and nothing sinister - true puberty issues are rare. but it's worth checking out to put your mind at rest.
I say this as somebody who had puberty concerns in a young child many years ago but all turned out fine. You are not wrong to have it checked though as 8 is still precocious in a boy.
