Purple toes?

DD 7 has 3 purple toes. I noticed them this evening.

She complained of an itchy toe last week and I had been using an over the counter athletes food cream.

But now I am a bit concerned? I will try and contact the GP in the morning but has anyone experienced anything like this. She is fine in herself...

Your poor DD! Has she recently had Covid? My DH had a strange swollen purple toe a few weeks after he had it. We googled it and there seemed to be some articles to suggest they were connected

Saisong · 14/02/2021 20:34

There is a Covid toe phenomenon. Might be worth getting her tested?

Lactofreemeatballs · 14/02/2021 20:34

Not as far as we know- that’s a bit worrying if it is.

I was going to say covid toe too.

It could be lots of other things I'm sure but Google it and you will see it is pretty common.

I'd ring the GP tomorrow to check.

thinkfast · 14/02/2021 20:35

Not a dr but could they be covid toes?

OppsUpsSide · 14/02/2021 20:35

It does look a lot like the picture of Covid toes

dancemom · 14/02/2021 20:35

Chilblains

Is it itchy?

Nme8961 · 14/02/2021 20:36

Google COVID toes, it's a fairly common symptom and would probably be best to have a test.

Lightningcrops · 14/02/2021 20:36

I thought covid too, and then hated myself for becoming someone who assumes everything is covid hah, but it has been reported, mainly in children.

brokengate · 14/02/2021 20:36

Would get covid test but I get chilblains that look like that. Especially itchy and hot feeling.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 14/02/2021 20:36

It could also be Raynauds which can flare up in the cold. I would get a doctors appointment.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 14/02/2021 20:36

I'd get a test to be sure.

ASnowman · 14/02/2021 20:36

Chilblains?

chickadeeeeeeeee · 14/02/2021 20:37

My daughter had covid in November (confirmed) and this is what her toes looked like.

We have spoken to the GP and their suggestion was to keep them moisturised

This pic was taken about a month ago and they are very flaky now so it does take a while Sad

Chilblains

BestZebbie · 14/02/2021 20:38

Until last year I would have said that is definitely a chilblain, you need chilblain cream instead of athletes foot cream. I had them as a child and that is what they looked like.
Now it could also be covid toes.

Joolsin · 14/02/2021 20:38

Chilblains.

ItsTheDramaMickILoveIt · 14/02/2021 20:38

DH had covid (mild, slight temperature and a cough for a few days) in late March last year - it was a few weeks after he recovered that he noticed the toe. It was itchy, then purple for a few weeks, then went back to normal.

PracticingPerson · 14/02/2021 20:39

Covid toes can be a long time post-viral, so tests may not help with identification.

Chillblains are indeed itchy and it has been cold.

beenrumbled · 14/02/2021 20:39

DD has this and we suspected chilblains, possibly Raynauds, as we have a history of Raynauds and other autoimmune conditions in the family. She had blood tests last week and we are waiting for the results.

MissDollyMix · 14/02/2021 20:40

I’ve noticed this toe strangeness in my 10yo recently too! It got progressively worse before Christmas so I rang the gp for advice - he wouldn’t see him but we managed a telephone consultation with photos. Doctor prescribed antibiotics as he suspected an infection. I tried all sorts of creams. It died down eventually but now it’s flaring back up again. Comes and goes in random toes. I don’t know if he’s been exposed to Covid and this is an ongoing after effect but non of the rest of us have had Covid and we were all tested negative during the Christmas holidays. It’s a strange one. I think probably chilblains but I can’t be 100%

ozymandiusking · 14/02/2021 20:41

Hi, I think this is probably due to the very cold weather. and is probably chillblains. They itch dreadfully espesially as they warm up.
Try and keep the whole body warm as well as the feet, even though it feels obvious to keep the feet warm.
Generally keep the feet comfortable, cut toe nails, clean, and it is comforting to massage them with cream, I use handcream.
But, still contact your GP for more information and help. x

doctorhamster · 14/02/2021 20:42

Chillblaines. My dd gets them in the winter.

Aerielview · 14/02/2021 20:46

Covid toes?

chickadeeeeeeeee · 14/02/2021 21:51

Daughter's were itchy and purple and some had pus. They were also quite painful on a couple of occasions Sad

GP suggested moisturising and no other meds

They have taken ages to improve, hope your DC feels better soon Smile
