Wondered if anyone had seen anything like this in their child's tongue before?

Ooh that looks rather sore. Should be checked out as it is very large.

I am fully aware not everything is covid but if you Google covid tongue you will see that is an actual thing, so if any other symptoms maybe get a test, or ask your GP to prescribe a test.

Hope she feels ok.

MattTebbutsForearms · 09/02/2021 17:15

That does look like Covid tongue. Its been on the news a bit lately. I'd ring NHS helpline for advice.

Jesus.

This thread could do with a trigger warning.

My son had this, the dentist called it "geographic tongue", could be that. He did say it was quite unusual to happen in children. My son grew out of it.

Crikey, it's not that bad Confused

ohm27 · 09/02/2021 17:41

How long has it been there and is she unwell at the moment?
It could be geographic tongue but could just as easily be caused by a virus like HFM /Covid etc.

PracticingPerson · 09/02/2021 17:43

Is it also inside the corner of the mouth too?

Su52 · 09/02/2021 17:53

I'm not sure if it's around the sides or not

OP posts:
Su52 · 09/02/2021 17:54

Or inside the corner of the mouth. She's sent me a photo (my daughter has!)

OP posts:
PracticingPerson · 09/02/2021 17:56

It looks like it is. Are you getting a gp appointment?

Su52 · 09/02/2021 17:56

Sorry if this has upset anyone!?

OP posts:
Hextopus · 09/02/2021 17:56

It looks a bit like geographic tongue, but best to get it checked by a doctor to be on the safe side.

Su52 · 09/02/2021 17:57

Looks like it is what, sorry? Do you mean Covid-tongue? My daughter's sent an email to the doctor's apparently but I'm not sure if they've got back to her yet? Do you think it looks serious?

OP posts:
PracticingPerson · 09/02/2021 18:00

Sorry - I meant looks like it is visible in the inside corner.

I have no ability to judge if serious, but I would get it checked certainly.

PlumDance · 09/02/2021 18:00

I get sores like that on the sides of my tongue and edges of the top rather than in the middle. Doctor told me it was geographic tongue.

I've noticed salt, cheese and berries bring it on

Hextopus · 09/02/2021 18:03

Geographic tongue. If that is what it is then I don't think it's anything serious.

But I am not in any way a medical professional so please don't take my word for it!

DodgeRainClouds · 09/02/2021 18:05

Could be hand foot and mouth?

LashesZ · 09/02/2021 18:06

Looks like geographic tongue. I get it from time to time. I find tomatoes and acid foods can make it come on and will worsen it and prolong the outbreak. It's harmless, just a bit sore.

30not13 · 09/02/2021 18:08

DP gets this every few months. I believe for him that tiredness or stress has an impact

Su52 · 09/02/2021 18:10

We did think it might be geographic tongue apart from the fact that she says it doesn't her(?) She's only 3 & had something similar when she was about one but they were told that it was probably thrush

OP posts:
Su52 · 09/02/2021 18:10

*hurt her

OP posts:
ohm27 · 09/02/2021 18:13

Geographic tongue can be sore or completely asymptomatic apart from appearance. It can also move around the tongue also. How long has your granddaughter had this and is she systemically well at the moment?

Su52 · 09/02/2021 18:16

She does seem well touchwood!
However, my daughter does say that she's been complaining of things being "too spicy" when they're clearly not!(?).
Apparently, that's been happening for quite a while too.

OP posts:
Curlymam88 · 09/02/2021 18:17

Maybe kawasaki disease? Hope she is doing ok.

Chickydoo · 09/02/2021 18:20

My son had this
Geographic tongue, he was about 8 when he had it. He said his tongue was sore, it didn't seem to bother him that much. GP didn't do anything & it disappeared after a week
