Wondered if anyone had seen anything like this in their child's tongue before?

Geographic tongue.

Can be brought on my foods that irritate, or can make foods more irritating- hard to know which way round. No one seemed bothered when one of mine had it.

Floridaflipflops · 09/02/2021 18:22

She’s got an ulcer on the inside of her mouth too.

Floridaflipflops · 09/02/2021 18:23

I think she has got covid.

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/02/2021 18:24

Ouch. Has the doctor replied?

ParadiseinMoscow · 09/02/2021 18:24

My daughter has geographic tongue and this is how it presents. Anything can trigger it, from certain foods/ drinks, aswell as it worsening as a tell tale sign of any upcoming virus/ lurgy.
However. Mostly it’s just a weird tongue that she’s had for her whole life without issue (now a teen)
Dentists and docs have been totally unsurprised by it, and see it a lot.
She is however mortified now at the idea of anyone seeing her weird tongue and assuming she has covid :(
So just a reminder to everyone on here that this sort of tongue doesn’t mean a person has covid 19! It can appear alongside a lot of autoimmmune diseases too.
Get it checked out op but don’t worry.

ParadiseinMoscow · 09/02/2021 18:27

Also to add, it has never ever hurt or been sore.

ohm27 · 09/02/2021 18:27

I see the area that the previous poster refers to on the inside of the angle of the rhs lip, but without a clinical exam, a diagnosis of ulceration there cannot be made. Whereas the tongue lesions are very clear.
If it's been there a while and spicy foods aggravate it, it is most likely geographic tongue. But do email those photos to your GD's GP or dentist for a definitive diagnosis.

Geographic tongue. My daughter has it (confirmed with gp) it doesn’t hurt her and has been like it for ages.

ThatsnotmyBorishishairistoneat · 09/02/2021 19:14

Obviously get it checked but could be geographic tongue which is nothing to worry about

Su52 · 10/02/2021 16:41

Just to let you know, my daughter spoke to a Dr. online this afternoon who had studied the photo. She seemed pretty certain that it is Geographical Tongue. Obviously, if it gets worse, then then they will look into it more but, hopefully, it's nothing serious! Thanks again.

This thread does not need a trigger warning. It's a grandmother concerned about her grandchild and looking for help. @Woebegonad get a grip. OP don't worry about posts like that, I hope all is okay.
