My dd 15 has had a headache since Tuesday. She's been coming home from school early because of it.

Paracetamol and ibuprofen aren't making any difference.

Any ideas what to do? Call 111? Not sure what they'd do?

She does suffer from migraines but this doesn't seem to be a migraine. No aura like her normal migraines and no sickness. She has had a bit of nausea. I have given her one of the pink migraleve tablets but that didn't seem to help.

Forgot to add - she does have a tic disorder and one of her tics is a jerky neck tic. Her neck tic goes off quite a bit when she's at school.

Low iron?
Eye problems?
I hope she feels better soon.

dingledongle · 05/12/2020 15:44

Possible coronavirus?

Dd had a headache for several days.

Tested positive

MissisBoote · 05/12/2020 15:49

@dingledongle that's interesting. Did she have any other symptoms? Mine says she has a bit of a sore throat.
She looks pretty pale too and feels under the weather. No cough or temperature.

Based on my friend who has been in hospital for a week with coronavirus I would get her a test ASAP

NightmareLoon · 05/12/2020 15:51

Headache and sore throat, I've seen people.on other threads test positive with that combo. (And the Zoe app sent me for a test with the same combo so we shall see. 😬)

Dramacoats · 05/12/2020 15:52

I’d get her a covid test. I know it’s not one of the standard symptoms listed but the teenagers I know who tested positive all had a headache as main symptom

Hollyhead · 05/12/2020 15:54

I wasn't tested, but I had a headache for a week about 3 weeks ago, I then had a 'bog standard cold', and now all my toes have chillblaines. In retrospect I'm fairly sure I might have had CV19, although none of the main 3 symptoms at any time.

DianaT1969 · 05/12/2020 15:56

Coronavirus. Lots of threads on here with those symptoms in children and teenagers.

dingledongle · 05/12/2020 15:58

Cold like symptoms, loss of taste (eventually) after 7 days

Worth a test 😊

Twinkie01 · 05/12/2020 16:00

We've just had this with DS 16. Had COVID test and came back negative so they thought it was meningitis but ended up being glandular fever.

Has she a sore throat, is she eating, very tired?

DS started with a headache for 9 days during which time he lost his appetite and then the rigours and throwing up started with confusion and v high temp.

MissisBoote · 05/12/2020 16:02

I just logged it on the Zoe app but it didn't say she needed a test.

@Twinkie01 she's got a bit of a sore throat. Not sore enough to need to gargle/need strepsils. Completely off her food. V tired. Sleeping in the day time.

No temperature though. No swollen glands.

Personally I would test, my dd, also fifteen, and half her year group had similar symptoms to what you are describing. They tested positive.

Fatigue, headache, sore throat all classic symptoms for teenagers

My dd now has the 'covid toes'

She tested positive on 17th November

noblegiraffe · 05/12/2020 16:11

Headache and sore throat has been a common symptom combination for kids who have tested positive at my school.

MissisBoote · 05/12/2020 16:12

@dingledongle did you get a private test?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 05/12/2020 16:13

Oh if she has fatigue too, that’s three of the top symptoms in children.

dingledongle · 05/12/2020 16:21

Not a private test, nhs drive through Grin

MissisBoote · 05/12/2020 16:23

@dingledongle did you get your appt through your GP?

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 05/12/2020 16:35

Some councils have a wider list of symptoms for children than the government so when applying online you can say that your council requested a test.

A lot of parents are lying to get their children tested because they know the official symptoms list doesn’t apply to children.

dingledongle · 05/12/2020 16:46

I booked a test online via www.gov.uk and identified that my daughter had one of the symptoms

I would put in one of the three symptoms for your daughter to get a test.

Our school had 50+ cases none with the classic three symptoms

Good luck and I hope she feels better soon Wink

poshme · 05/12/2020 16:55

Do you have a CO monitor? Leaking carbon monoxide can cause headaches (and could kill you)

MissisBoote · 05/12/2020 17:13

Lovely - thanks @dingledongle

Yes @poshme we have a carbon monoxide detector and I've just tested it to make sure it's working.

LyndaLaHughes · 05/12/2020 17:19

Yes please get a covid test- those are typical symptoms in children. The government won't alter the list for children because they don't want to acknowledge how bad the situation is in schools, hence sticking rigidly to a symptom list which is incorrect for kids. It's infuriating.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 05/12/2020 17:21

Shes clearly ill. I dont know why youve gone in with the headache when she has fatique, feels unwell, off her food, feels sick and has a sore throat. Its hardly a massive mystery.

Id get her a covid test, as its a relatively common presentation, but either way at this stage id assume it was some sort of virus. If it persists and she has a negative test then Id go to the Gp. The same as with every illness
