Dr won't examine rash

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 19:33

Can anyone shed any light on this rash. Both dd4 and ds5 have it. It's not sore and doesn't seem overly itchy. It started a 2/3 raised pimples spots and has spread significantly over the past 3 days.
We hired a hot tub last week and thought it could be folliculitus from that but it's spreading more now which seems unlikely.
I'm positive it's not molloscum because my ds has that on his arm and this is different. I asked for gp exam today and was told not but could have phone appt as they don't want patients in. I asked if I could send a picture and they said no. Described it on phone to Dr and he's adament it's chickenpox. It's spread like pox and looks a little like early stage pox but no blistering and not nearly as itchy as I'd expect. Both well in themselves and no temps.
Normally I'd wait and see but we have a very close family member in end of life care (not elderly) and assuming pox means we have to isolate from her. It also means I can't use my parents as childcare for the same reason.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Is it all over the body or localised in one area?

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 20:32

@dementedpixie worse on their torsos but also on thighs, tops of arms, backs and a couple on bum area

Does look like early chicken pox

RosalieDene · 20/10/2020 20:48

Looks exactly like chicken pox early on - I had it about 10 years ago and being confused because it didn't look like I expected.

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 20:49

@mumtobabygilrl I totally agree but this is day 4 of spots and none are blistered? They don't even seem to have fluid in them?

mumtobabygilrl · 20/10/2020 20:53

@JacktomyDaniel hmm that is strange they do look very pox like and it's common for them to first spread on the torso, give it until tomorrow and if they have spread elsewhere I'd probably just settle for them bring pox but developing slowly. If not I'd insist dr sees a photo at least. I understand they wouldn't want chicken pox in the surgery but should look at photos at least

This is really weird! Dd age 3 has this all over her at the moment, I've kept her off nursery this week so far as I'm really not sure what it is. Dr said see how she goes if she gets a temp they'll recommend a covid test (!?) but it's likely a virus. Hers seems to be flaring up and down. Itchy. Very raised. Faded mostly on torso now but legs and arms still very visible.
She had terrible chickenpox last year so definitely not that, this is more of a rash than individual spots.

Tolleshunt · 20/10/2020 21:05

What exactly would be so hard about opening a photo and looking at it? Seems pretty poor ‘care’ from the dr. I think I would get back in touch and insist on some form of viewing if it’s not looking classically chickenpoxish tomorrow.

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 21:15

Thanks so much everyone. Because they are "well" I feel like an idiot making a fuss but it's costing us valuable time with a family member and also affects whether they can return to school or not.
My gut says not chickenpox and I wondered about covid but literally not even another slight symptom.
We are a village with 2 gps and the worst and I mean stereotypically worse receptionist. I'm seriously considering moving to the next town over if I can get in to there.
They don't have "facilities" for pictures??? Surely email/text/WhatsApp? I honestly give up. I went two weeks ago at their request for a blood test for an ongoing condition. I left work for an hour. Had to wait in the car, was waved in at my time by a receptionist in full ppe, (visor, mask, apron, gloves) escorted to the nurse with mo other people present. Nurse was similarly kitted out. Making small talk about how her day was she let slip that they see one... ONE...? patient face to face per day at the moment. IN FULL PPE!!! I had come from teaching a class of 25, 8 year olds who are incapable of distancing amongst a school of 200 children. Absolute madness!!!!

at the start of lockdown my daughter got a rash - the first doctor saw her and diagnosed chicken pox. I wasn't convinced and when it continued to expand around her body, but with no blisters or illness/feeling poorly/temperature I got a second opinion and a second doctor suggested it was pityriasis rosea and I think they were right.
your 3rd picture looks a bit more like what my daughters did...
this is the nhs page for it www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-rosea/
we didn't need to do anything other than nice massages with coconut oil and after a few weeks it eased and then disappeared as randomly as it appeared

Queenfreak · 20/10/2020 21:18

Are you able to see a pharmacist? Don't know if they are seeing people atm.

Thanks. It does look similar on my daughter and less so on my son. @Queenfreak they are open yes. I might try tomorrow and see if any advice. Obviously until I'm completely sure I would avoid our family member but we don't have time to do that unnecessarily and so would like to know what's going on.

I think it is folliculitis. They have it areas where you would be sitting in a hot tub. It can spread like that too.

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 21:33

@needsahouseboy I agree that's definitely what it most looks like. Reminds me a bit of razor burn although they say it isn't sore. I want it to be that! Fingers crossed 🤞

I work in a GP surgery and if if someone sent me photos that’s what I would diagnose and treat 😁

JacktomyDaniel · 20/10/2020 21:49

@needsahouseboy thank you. I really appreciate that. Like I say I teach and I've seen chickenpox come on and spread rapidly before a child is collected. I also vividly remember having it as a 6 year old and still have a giant dent between my eyebrows where I picked it. I just don't feel that this is what it is. They aren't fussed by it. I can still remember trying to claw my skin off!!

Another vote for the hot tub being to blame.

anothernamereally · 21/10/2020 00:35

That looks exactly like my skin if the chemicals aren't spot on in the hot tub, I take antihistamine if it's itching (sometimes does) and apply lots of emollient cream and check the water very carefully now each and every time.

ItsBeyondMe · 21/10/2020 00:38

My kids get folliculitis occasionally from the grandparents hot tub. It can carry on spreading for a few days and it looks very like your pictures.

JacktomyDaniel · 21/10/2020 07:58

Thanks everyone. I'm more convinced than ever that that's what it is. Really appreciate it x

So I have ordered a hot tub for my kid's birthday. Do I have to be worried about this rash? Op I hope you are all better soon.

JacktomyDaniel · 21/10/2020 10:09

@OhioOhioOhio they aren't overly bothered by it. Its just unsightly.
We had it for 5 days and they were in it every day so it's probably been excessive use. Just make sure they shower and moisturise each time they've been in x

Op that's really helpful. Thank you.
