My ten month old (today) DD just had a health visitor check and she's 13kg - well above the 99 percentile line.

She's breast and formula fed, and is just starting baby-led weaning. Should I worry that SS will be along soon? If she were well below the 5 percentile surely she'd be referred to the GP. Or do I just enjoy having a butter ball baby? 😍

She’s gorgeous 🥰🥰😍 I think dS really chunked up like this before he started crawling and then it levelled out

Tempusfudgeit · 07/09/2020 17:40

That picture was just after she'd achieved her first (closely supervised) ascent of the staircase.

She's all good (and adorable!). I don't think she looks very big and as PP said, it will all disappear once she becomes more mobile. DS was a similar size and the same age and now his clothes hang off him (he still eats a lot and is perfectly healthy, he just can move around a lot more now!)

bloodywhitecat · 08/09/2020 20:20

She doesn't look dissimilar to my ten month old (tomorrow) foster baby, he hasn't been weighed recently but the HV did comment on how well he looked when I took my five month old to be weighed a few weeks ago. FB (foster baby) has recently cut down to around 440ml of milk a day as his soilds intake has increased so I am sure he will grow taller and slim down soon.

VeggieSausageRoll · 08/09/2020 20:24

Mine was similar. 13ish kilos at 9 months. Then he discovered crawling (and later walking). He was still 13 kilos at 17 months and has only just started to slowly but steadily gain weight again. I think this is fairly normal as they simultaneously wean and increase their ability to move around

IHateCoronavirus · 08/09/2020 20:28

Ooh I love a squishy baby! DS1 was exactly the same we used to have to snip gaps into the tops of his socks so they didn’t cut off the circulation in his chubby little feet.
DS1 is nearly 15, 6ft 3 and skinny as a rake now (despite eating us out of house and home).
Enjoy the snuggles 🥰 she is too cute!

BabetteAteOtemeal · 08/09/2020 20:28

Shes gorgeous OP but agree that she doesn't look that big, a little chunkier than my soon to be 10mo but hes a real mover and shaker. Hes not been weighed since... yikes maybe birth - poor second child. If she's happy and healthy I doubt you'll be getting a knock on the door.

Flatwhite32 · 08/09/2020 20:31

Oh look at her! Love her little rolls! I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum with an 11kg two year old, but to be honest as long as your daughter is happy and healthy, there's no need to worry. You'll probably find her weight gain really slows down when she is walking.

doadeer · 08/09/2020 20:33

Oh my gosh so gorgeous! Like a little marshmallow I wouldnt be worried

Insertwitticismhere · 08/09/2020 20:35

Where is she on the height centiles? The best HV look at the child not at the scales! If she's all in proportion then all good! Dd2 was off all the charts at birth (5.2kg!) But was also over the 99th century for length/height. One measurement doesn't make sense without the context of the other.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 08/09/2020 20:36

My first was enormous. A right hippo of a baby. Fold upon fold upon fold. She's now a tall, strong six year old. Not skinny but not overweight (according to the charts) and really strong - she's basically Amazonian!

jomaIone · 08/09/2020 20:37

If you HV hasn't said anything, then it's fine! She looks adorable!

Sexnotgender · 08/09/2020 20:38

She looks perfect.

My DS was an absolute beast until he got properly mobile. Love a chubby baby.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/09/2020 20:40

I remember DD chunking up right before a growth spurt. I look back at pictures and she’s all squishy and then soon stretches out.

Your DD looks gorgeous absolutely fine.

FAQs · 08/09/2020 20:44

What was she when she was born, my daughter about 9.5 kgs at a year old. I remember the health visitor at the time saying a baby should be roughly triple birth weight at a year old?

Stinkyjellycat · 08/09/2020 20:46

My DC is 3 and 8 months and only weighs 12.5kg so is at the opposite end of the spectrum. The GP isn’t concerned - someone has to be near the top of the centiles and others near the bottom. Your DD looks every bit as gorgeous as mine - don’t worry!

Findahouse21 · 08/09/2020 20:46

She looks really tall as well though, what size clothes is she in?

rottiemum88 · 08/09/2020 20:49

She does look on the larger side to me, but then DS has never been a chunky baby. He's only just over 11kgs now at 19 months and around 50th centile. Ultimately there's a huge range and as long as she's happy and healthy that's all that matters

yeOldeTrout · 08/09/2020 20:50

When DC1 was small, someone in my post-natal group had 2 little girls like this. They were just massive until 15-18m old. The mum was quite young & got a lot of grief off the HV about something she must be doing wrong :( . The babies were fully breastfed and slow to wean, not over fed with bad food, just meant to be huge. Not born large, either. "In a space of their own" on the growth charts (above the top lines).

They grew into perfectly normal sized little girls. Now that I think about it, I know someone else who had some extra large babies like this (boys); but older mum so more confident. They are normal size boys now too.

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2020 20:54

Thing with centimetres charts is out if every 100 an airs there will statistically be 5 below 5th centimetres and 1 above 99th.

What is her height on?

Plus as they get more mobile they need the reserves. She looks adorable to me!

itsgettingweird · 08/09/2020 20:56

Clearly my phone wants to type its own thing Hmm

Centile charts

Babies

And any thing else that didn't make sense Grin

DameLucy · 08/09/2020 21:07

She’s simply beautiful and healthy. Ignore the naysayers and carry on doing what you’re doing x

eaglejulesk · 08/09/2020 21:10

She's absolutely adorable. She also looks quite tall, and she will slim down once she is more mobile, as pps have said. Just enjoy her and don't change anything.

IKEA888 · 08/09/2020 21:27

She looks great and in proportion.
Don't worry.
By about 4 they all look so similar.
Apart from my 4 and a half year old who weighs 12kg bit she has health issues

PolarBearStrength · 08/09/2020 21:32

Gorgeous chunk!

I put my son’s height and weight into the NHS BMI calculator the other day (he’s just 2) and he comes out as third centile... he’s tall (99th centile plus) but not very heavy (12.5kg). Starting to worry I’ll be told off at his 2 year review! He genuinely doesn’t look skinny though!
