Left testicle pain in my 13 year old

Hi just wondering if anyone had advice on testicle torsion?

Pain started this afternoon approx 1500 when walking up some steps, started as a stitch type pain in lower left abdomen. This evening he has developed pain and tenderness in his left testicle. slightly hurts to pee, nothing else unusual. I've given him 400 of Ibuprofen and we'll see how it goes.. just wondering on your thoughts of how quickly this could progress if it is a torsion, or whether it's an infection. We'll obviously see how things go overnight and if he's still got it in the morning i'll take him to the GP. Just want to be prepared to look out for any other warning signs.. Thanks

Of course if he was in serious pain i'd be whisking him off there myself

OP there doesn’t have to be much pain at all for it to be a testicular torsion. Honestly, could you face your child knowing you had reduced his fertility through ‘monitoring’?

Oh dear.

Mnet can bea luttle dramatic at times.

This is not one of those times.

But its ok because the OP has asked medical professionals, so didn't need to ask here at all..

Good God there are some drama llamas on MN sometimes! I wonder if they contribute to the swamping of A&E due to totally inappropriate use....

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 01/09/2020 07:39

I have seen many many inappropriate uses of a & e.

This is not one of them.

JimminyCricketwhites · 01/09/2020 07:58

I hope your son is alright OP. If you don't want to go to A and E, I suggest GP first thing this morning. They will tell you whether you need to go or not.

Nestofvipers · 01/09/2020 08:05

@ devildeepbluesea I have worked in A&E. I have also like @Thecurtainsofdestiny seen many many inappropriate uses of A&E and this is absolutely NOT one of them. If OP speaks to 111 they should tell her to take her son to A&E with those symptoms, so speaking to them is a waste of time. He needs to be seen by a surgeon urgently.

I have also seen several patients with torsion and almost NONE of them had severe pain. In fact in almost all of them the diagnosis was made late because they didn’t present because they didn’t have severe pain.

How's your son this morning?

You say you were checking him. Did you try the reflex test. We watched in on DS a few times to rub the inside of their thigh and the testie should retract which means it's not twisted. But I'm not medical just from watching my son have it done.

wobblywinelover · 01/09/2020 11:56

Hi all, he is okay this morning, it has improved a little, just a bit of an ache and tender to touch. I've rang the GP and they've spoken to me over the phone, and I have an appointment this afternoon for him. They want us to take a urine sample in.

@TeenMummy yes they are moving about as normal and retracting thanks

Hi I hope your son has been seen by his doctor now and every thing is ok .

JimminyCricketwhites · 02/09/2020 08:37

What did the GP say @wobblywinelover? All ok?

LatinforTelly · 02/09/2020 09:56

Hi OP, we had this exact situation last week. I had a similar view to you, not having come across this sort of thing before. I was flummoxed when a "just in case, be on the safe side" phone appt turned into an in-person appt and then we were sent to A&E that night! My son could walk throughout and the pain wasn't as bad as it had been earlier. I was told by the medics it is ALWAYS an emergency. My son had the less serious condition which rights itself, but it took 3 A&E doctors to confirm this and the last one said, if they hadn't got the diagnostic clue, they would've opened him up anyway, to double check. Shock

Seriously, I had no idea!

Good luck. I hope your son is all right. PPs are right, even mild unexplained testicular pain should always be seen urgently.

wobblywinelover · 02/09/2020 20:27

Hi, it was an infection in his testicle, so he's been given some antibiotics. All good and thanks for the replies :-)
