Left testicle pain in my 13 year old

wobblywinelover · 31/08/2020 22:33

Hi just wondering if anyone had advice on testicle torsion?

Pain started this afternoon approx 1500 when walking up some steps, started as a stitch type pain in lower left abdomen. This evening he has developed pain and tenderness in his left testicle. slightly hurts to pee, nothing else unusual. I've given him 400 of Ibuprofen and we'll see how it goes.. just wondering on your thoughts of how quickly this could progress if it is a torsion, or whether it's an infection. We'll obviously see how things go overnight and if he's still got it in the morning i'll take him to the GP. Just want to be prepared to look out for any other warning signs.. Thanks

Please don’t see how the evening progresses. Please get him seen tonight. By the morning it may be too late. If this is a torsion every hour you leave it (“monitor it”) is critical and increases the chances of him LOSING HIS TESTICLE.

I am sorry for shouting, but everyone on here has given you the same sensible advice and for some reason you seem determined to ignore it.

Lougle · 31/08/2020 22:59

@wobblywinelover

He says it doesn't hurt at all unless he touches it. I will see what he is like in the next hour
It isn't normal for it to hurt at all at any time. Not at all.
AriettyHomily · 31/08/2020 22:59

Why ask for advice if you've made your mind up? Potential torsion is an and e job.

icanbreathagain · 31/08/2020 23:00

As a mum of only girls; is it not wise to get it checked?

Inspirationpending · 31/08/2020 23:01

My eldest ds had almost identical symptoms at the same age. GP advised A&E immediately
Surgeon said that in kids it’s almost always a sign of torsion and he was operated on within a couple of hours.

Catworrier · 31/08/2020 23:02

OP clearly doesn't need our advice if they are going to ignore a 100% vote on "go to a&e right now!"

Crazy

Elouera · 31/08/2020 23:03

Unbelieveable!!! You are asking randoms on MN, yet not listening to any of the advice. I worked in A&E for 10yrs and would have taken him hours ago- and I'm the LAST person to advise anyone to go to A&E!!! Just because the pain is only there on movement and pressing has no baring at all!

It might be an infection or something fixable, but I cannot believe that you are watching it 'hour by hour' Confused and waiting for what exactly??? Rather than getting medical advice and possible emergency treatment to save his manhood!!! Surely a few hours in A&E is worth more than a life time of potential embarrassment from 1 testicle, because 'mum was watching my nut hour on hour. She thought it was ok!!!!!'

KitchenRollHuggers · 31/08/2020 23:07

Stop giving her advice

She's not listening

She wanted to hear 'He will be fine, wait till morning'

It wasn't what she got, so she's ignoring it

Let's hope her poor son doesn't pay the price here

BeeTrees · 31/08/2020 23:08

OP, everyone has told you to get medical advice, including those who have suffered and medical professionals. They are saying this for a reason, you can’t decide and if you go to hospital and he’s fine, then brilliant! They would much rather see 10 kids and send them home than miss the one who waited until morning and lost a testicle.

slipperywhensparticus · 31/08/2020 23:12

my son had this two doctors a pair of surgens and a consultant were called in just to be absolutely certain he didn't have one he was sent to treatment immediately no waiting

Its serious

wobblywinelover · 31/08/2020 23:24

I'm not ignoring the advice i'm heeding it, apologies for my non instant replies i'm also seeking advice from medical professionals there's no need to be so aggressive! Of course if he was in serious pain i'd be whisking him off there myself! I'm not just heeding the advice from Mumsnet i'm asking medical friends advice too and will call 111 also. There's no need to be so dramatic! It's all in hand, was hoping for friendly advice, not aggressive responses about me being some sort of shit negligent mother! Thanks a bunch!

I'd really go to a and e, what's the worse that can happen ?

If it's nothing then that's fine, but if it is then it needs sorting. A and e near us are actually empty and safe - better than normal times tbh.

Ashard20 · 31/08/2020 23:34

It's a medical emergency and every minute you leave it is causing damage to his fertility. My son had the same thing in January and managed to shuffle himself around a bit to make it more comfortable. That was at 11.00pm. We checked on Google - it said to go straight to A and E so we did. Two hours later he was in surgery.
Even if A and E is heaving, they will prioritise him as time is of the essence.
It seems trivial but it is very serious.

wobblywinelover · 31/08/2020 23:43

So i've been reported?! wow. Thanks mumsnetters. I've sought advice from a paed nurse and paramedic friends and i'm monitoring it minute by minute. I'll be ringing 111. Seriously no need to report me how awful. My son is walking around the house fairly happily at the moment. Think this is the last time i'll ask for advice but thankyou anyway

Fingers crossed he is fine but you know your in the wrong on this one right? no need to accuse people who know better than you of being dramatic your just wrong

Elouera · 31/08/2020 23:50

OP- what exactly are monitoring??? Are you seriously checking your 13yr old sons testicles hourly??? How embarrasing for him! What exactly are YOU checking for and what signs would make you seek medical attention? When it turns black?

Elouera · 31/08/2020 23:53

You do realise that once the torsion occurs, the acute pain goes and its often painfree!!! You are obvioulsy not listening to medical professionals with years of experience though! Your paediatric nurse friend and paramedic have obvioulsy never had to tell a teen that they are going to lose a testical because it was left too long!!!!

nocoolnamesleft · 31/08/2020 23:53

How are you monitoring? Are you having a surgeon examine him?
Or performing an ultrasound scan with doppler scans to check blood flow? Or an exploratory procedure in theatre?

You don't have the resources or training to monitor this.

wobblywinelover · 01/09/2020 00:00

I'm awaiting a call back from 111. I do have some medical knowledge but i'm not an expert. Yes I can examine my son on an hourly basis, we are totally honest with each other.

OP posts:
slipperywhensparticus · 01/09/2020 00:07

Dr Google is not medical knowledge

HeyBlaby · 01/09/2020 00:12

Christ alive.

wobblywinelover · 01/09/2020 00:15

Okay thanks for the advice, thread closed. Much appreciated

I'm currently in hospital with my 15 year old a bit different to your son. He's got chronic testicals pain but tonight has been hot/cold no fever. Like your son not swollen but pain in waves can reach 8/10. I hope you get sorted tonight. Just remember your not alone xx

NoNobramma · 01/09/2020 01:09

“Just remember your not alone xx” (sic)

But the OP’s son’s testicle may well be come tomorrow. 😬
