Weird rash on four year old (contains photos)

DS has developed a strange rash that has changed within the space of two hours. We’re currently on holiday in the SW waiting for an out of hours doctors appointment but as it’s the BH weekend there are very long delays. Does anyone know what it could be? He doesn’t have any other symptoms. Sorry best I could do with the photo Blush

The second photo makes me want to say Ringworm but I’m not sure.

Does your child have a fever or any other symptoms?

Bagelsandbrie · 29/08/2020 20:02

Sorry just re read and no other symptoms!

Hope you get seen soon.

whowhatwherewhenwhy · 29/08/2020 20:05

No, no fever.
I don’t think it’s ringworm. Brought up on a farm so I have experienced it and it stays in one place. The rash has changed from photo 1 to photo 2 within 2 hrs. We’ve never experienced it before.

I would wonder if it's from Covid. Many children have gotten odd rashes.

OverTheRainbow88 · 29/08/2020 20:08

Hmm my son had a weird rash... the rash with the purple round the edge, was similar: they said his was called erythema multiform

sarahc336 · 29/08/2020 20:09

I thinknits either viral induced or some kind of contact allergic reaction. Dont thinknits ring worm as that's often all over xx

SummerHouse · 29/08/2020 20:10

That's really unusual. Did it start with one mark do you know (a herald spot) which indicates a harmless skin rash which I just need to ask Google about for a name...

Elisheva · 29/08/2020 20:10

It looks a lot like hives, my Ds gets a similar rash from eating shellfish.

Marsis · 29/08/2020 20:10

Looks like urticaria/hives if your on holiday might be something in the accommodation that has triggered it.

forgetthehousework · 29/08/2020 20:11

Some sort of insect bites?

lorisparkle · 29/08/2020 20:11

I was going to say an allergic reaction to something as well but the second picture confused me - sorry

SummerHouse · 29/08/2020 20:12

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-rosea/ I was thinking this but I think hives seems more likely.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/08/2020 20:12

Hives judging by the 1st pic. Ds' go like the 2nd photo when they're going down. You can get liquid antihistamine over the counter. If you can find the duty pharmacist tomorrow it might be worth showing them the pictures.

MikeUniformMike · 29/08/2020 20:13

Has he been in contact with any plants or animals?

RedRiverShore · 29/08/2020 20:13

Pityriasis Rosea is the one with the herald patch, I have had that and it was more spotty iirc
MacavityTheDentistsCat · 29/08/2020 20:14

I think it may perhaps be an allergic reaction to something he has eaten. My DD had something similar when she was about 12 months. It came and went for a while until it was out of her system.

whowhatwherewhenwhy · 29/08/2020 20:16

Thanks for your replies.
He has had a little rash under his lips for a few days which he hasn’t had before and we thought it’s maybe just been caused by food so now wondering if it’s linked.

MimsyBorogroves · 29/08/2020 20:17

I thought hives too - does it go down with an antihistamine?

No exposure to ticks or anything?

Heartofstrings · 29/08/2020 20:18

I would also say covid. My boys rash was very similar and came up very quickly.

Heartofstrings · 29/08/2020 20:20

Here was my three year old

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/08/2020 20:22

I get them from Ivy when it's in flower. They itch like mad but taking an extra in my case antihistamine does help. Ds gets them year round from various pollens & had them awfully when he had Chicken pox last year.

whowhatwherewhenwhy · 29/08/2020 20:22

Thanks, no exposure with ticks. We’ve been to the beach today so he’s been paddling. We’ve had quite a few beach days recently though.
We’ve never used anthistamines so I don’t have one to try him with but it sounds like hives could be a possibility. Feeling a bit confused. Hopefully we’ll get an appointment soon.

He'll need a liquid one because he's under 6 op. They do like to do these things over bank holiday weekends. OOH will probably want to see him just because he's little but hopefully it won't take too long.

AmelieTaylor · 29/08/2020 20:27

I hope they get back to you soon

Personally I'd be worried about it being a Covid rash, so I'd call back and see where's the best place to take him.

It's like some of the photos, but not others

Whatever it is, I hope they can sort it out soon.

RaggieDolls · 29/08/2020 20:27

I agree with the hives suggestion. I'd get done piriton from the nearest pharmacy to try. It should work very quickly if it's hives.
