Does your child have supper before bed? If so, what? DD has all sorts before bed, think out of habit now.. but DH said it's not necessary as she has had her dinner just two hours earlier. I thought all kids had supper?

Like anything, it won’t be all children. I have a 7 yr old girl and she has had phases of wanting something before bed. A bowl of porridge, piece of toast or a plain biscuit with a glass of milk. Never anything too interesting. At the moment she is pretty hungry at dinner time so seems to be eating enough then to keep her going.

minipie · 29/08/2020 22:48

No supper here. DD is 7 nearly 8 and eats like a horse in the day, but never asked for anything or said she is hungry just before bed.

We only have about an hour between end of tea and bedtime though

crosser62 · 29/08/2020 22:50

No nothing before bed.
A big tea & that’s it.
Never asks for anything so assume they are not hungry.

Stormwhale · 29/08/2020 22:50

Dd is nearly 7 and doesn't have supper. She might have a quick snack like a yoghurt or cereal bar if she says she is hungry, but nothing routinely.

Ullupullu · 29/08/2020 22:52

Nope. Never had "supper" growing up, nor did DH, nor do my kids. Just have a decent tea.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 29/08/2020 22:56

No... Buy dinner is 6.30/7 anyway, with bed at 8 so no time. Sometimes they do dinner, shower, yoghurt, but that's a continuation of dinner.

They do have Supper after Beavers/Cubs, when they have an early dinner (beavers is 6-7.30, Cubs 6.30-8). (Older sibling is recently 9, and this was Pre Covid obviously, when they were 6&8)

renallychallenged · 29/08/2020 22:57

Mine vary.

If they've had an early tea 4-5pm at ASC or due to activities then they usually have supper before bed - sandwich, toast, weetabix & banana type stuff.

If we've eaten a proper dinner together at 6ish then no supper (although tbf they would sometimes choose cereal for "pudding" in that scenario 🙄)

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 29/08/2020 22:58

DD (6yo) is in bed for 7pm, she has dinner at 5.30pm so no need for a snack or anything before bed.

Quornflakegirl · 29/08/2020 22:59

My girls are 7, we have dinner at 5:30 and they will have a glass of milk before bed and sometimes a piece of fruit.

Ghoste · 29/08/2020 23:00

Occasionally but mostly not

LupinsNotLilys · 29/08/2020 23:01

Mine are allowed to eat a boring set of foods before bed as if they're hungry/growing/peckish they can eat something

Toast with peanut butter/jam/cheese/marmalade/soft cheese
Any cereal we have in, shredders, weetabix, honey corn flakes, porridge
Fruit/veg (apple, banana, carrot etc)
Yogurt/ fruit corner/frube type
Milk/milkshake/hot chocolate
Scrambled egg
Beans
2-3 biscuits/crackers with cheese
Crumpet

If they're hungry they will eat the above. Grazing/snacking is different to being hungry

I always remember offering mine Petit Filous after a meal once I thought they'd had enough when they were smaller. Always struck me they'd chuck down 2-4 petit Filous after a decent portion of food. If they're hungry or they need it they'll eat imo

I have to say my 13 year old seems to be craving more protein/carbs and the list above doesn't suffice but at 7 he ate the items above

Solasum · 29/08/2020 23:05

We eat at 6 and DS (6) mostly has a bowl
of porridge or weetabix just before he goes to bed at 7.30. He is on the thin side and doesn’t eat much generally so I am more than happy to get the extra calories into him

WooliesPickNMix · 29/08/2020 23:06

DS is 6 and he doesn’t, he has tea at about half 5 but it’s usually a large meal sometimes with yoghurt/fruit after.

I used to though - a glass of milk and an Abbey Crunch biscuit (still really miss those!)

frustrationcentral · 29/08/2020 23:06

My boys did at that age, usually a banana and a biscuit, or a slice of toast

NothingInterestingToDeclare · 29/08/2020 23:09

Oh god just before bedtime both my dc try and consume as much additional food as possible - even with a dinner time of 6 ish. I assume it’s more habit than actual need mostly...

foilflower · 29/08/2020 23:27

No. My 7yo has dinner at 5pm and milk at 6pm but nothing after that (bedtime at 7pm).

Kaiserin · 29/08/2020 23:33

No, we have dinner around 6 or 7, then brush teeth, and they're in bed around 8, they just get a glass of water before bed (and a trip to the loo...)

TableFlowerss · 29/08/2020 23:34

No supper here either. Usually about 1.5-2hrs between finishing tea and bed.

I don’t like my youngest eating right before bed. Occasionally if they ask I’ll say something like a small bowl of cereal but I like at least half an hour between that and bed- so it’s not sitting on stomach.

DC East’s like a horse through day too so couldn’t be hungry

Kaiserin · 29/08/2020 23:35

(They also have get afternoon snacks around 3 or 4)

drspouse · 29/08/2020 23:37

My 6 year old doesn't and never has.
My 8 year old is on medication that reduces his appetite and he has supper after the 6 year old goes to bed as his meds have worn off by then.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/08/2020 08:08

My six year old will occasionally ask for something before bed - milk and a bit of toast, or crackers and cheese - but it's not a habitual thing. His big sister has never asked for anything else after dinner.

cliffdiver · 30/08/2020 08:09

DD2 is 6.

Never, and she's never asked.

Dinner is 5pm and bedtime is 7pm.

bathorshower · 30/08/2020 08:14

If she asks, which is maybe once a week.

If your DD is a healthy weight, then why not let her eat if she's hungry?

GalOopNorth · 30/08/2020 08:16

Nope. But dinner is often not till 6.30-7 and bedtime is 8

cherrybakewellll · 30/08/2020 09:05

I have DS6 and DS8. We have never been a snack family, the kids have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner is usually 5.30pm, then they shower and go to watch tv in their rooms and tv off at 7pm.

If they're eating if enough at dinner they won't need supper or snacks.
