Two large soft lumps base of baby's head

She's 7 months old and I can't remember if my other two had this. Google throws up various scary options but none fit exactly. She's fit and well otherwise and hitting all milestones. Any Mumsnet experience/opinions?

Has she had any sort of infection recently? They do have lymph nodes there, my baby had raised lumps on one side which were investigated but all ok as the vast majority are.

RoLaren · 01/06/2020 09:55

No cold recently, just teething. I think the lymph nodes are usually smaller and pea sized. If it was any other time I'd probably pop her to the health clinic for reassurance.

Why would you not seek a health professional? There are too many people frightened of asking for professional advice just now? Would could and will lead to all sorts of health issues to contend with in months to come.
Start with phoning health visitor or go for advice and take it from there. The suspected covid cases are kept well away from normal
Services, and they are in reality an extremely small risk anyway just now due to the R number.

Thanks for your input. I spoke to the health visitor who said to keep an eye on it and bring it up next time she sees a medical professional (12 month vaccs, I think) So hopefully all's well.

Not just fat? I

TeddyIsaHe · 01/06/2020 17:03

Call your gp and get a proper medical assessment, don’t wait 5 months! It’s likely absolutely nothing but it sure why you wouldn’t get it seen anyway.

RoLaren · 01/06/2020 17:17

Teddy - because if it is absolutely nothing, I don't want to waste a GPs time.

It kinda looks just like fat. You do have lymph nodes there, but they'd have to be pretty large to look like that, and at that size would be pretty damn hard.

hannah1992 · 01/06/2020 19:51

They’re not lymph nodes because if they were they wouldn’t be soft.

To me they just look like fat. They will probably even out as dc grows. But if you’re worried you can just ask gp

Minkies13 · 01/06/2020 20:14

My daughter had similar. It really worried me and I asked many health professionals about it at various appointments and none seemed concerned. They finally went away or shrunk. To be honest I can't quite remember because it happened gradually as she grew. She's now 19 months.

Grouphugs · 01/06/2020 22:06

We had this too with DD7 when she was a baby. Two pea sized lumps.

The health visitor said it was probably glands. They disappeared after a few months. Haven't thought of them for years!

lilgreen · 03/06/2020 18:22

My DD now 16 had an enlarged gland on one side at the back of her neck when she was 1. GP said it was enquire soft and to keep an eye. It gradually went as she grew. Funnily enough, I now work with children and notice them all the time so it’s obviously very common.

lilgreen · 03/06/2020 18:23

Quite not enquire

Zain04 · 13/11/2020 18:42

Even my baby has..my pediatric said nothing to worry
Also she has eczema

Hsarp98 · 15/01/2021 10:58

Hi, did you ever manage to find out what this was? I’ve noticed my son (8.5 months old) also has these (not lymph nodes, because I can feel those too). Thanks so much!

Nic0le · 19/03/2021 22:24

Hi! Wondering if you ever found a diagnosis? I have something similar going on with my 6 month old and when i googled it, your image was the first to show.

Arzo · 10/04/2021 17:23

My 5 month daughter has these too in the same exact spot. They feel rubbery tho. I think my LO cries too when I put my hand underneath her head sometimes. I can't tell if her pain is associated with these lumps tho. She has had them for 2 months now.

ChangingStates · 10/04/2021 17:28

Mine had the same, dr checked- it's glands or something (12 years ago so can't remember) anyway message from dr was perfectly normal and not to worry

Kyla4444 · 17/08/2021 11:12

Hi

Did anyone find out anything else my 10 month old has them and one has got big and blue and I’m just seeing if anyone else has any info as my doctors are finding it hard to work out why. Thank you all for your help and time

Luxmer · 12/11/2021 22:11

Hello, my 7 months old son has had the same for the past three months approx. We asked our pediatrician in the last visit and she said not to worry, talked about lymph nodes and his exema (the exema has resolved since then) but the quarter sized bumps are there on the exact same place and haven't changed thing. :O

kmlewi22 · 18/01/2022 15:18

I understand what you’re talking about. You can’t see them in the pic because they don’t show. The other people saying it looks like fat are irrelevant. It’s not fat. It’s under the skin. They feel like little bubbles exactly where the arrows are. I know because my 1 year old has them as well and I’ve been freaking out about them. The dr felt them and said they are definitely lymph nodes and if they get bigger than the size of a pea, to get the baby looked at because something is going on. I’m scared and constantly checking my baby’s head now. They’ve been the same size (smaller than a pea) for a while. Gosh I hope they go away soon. 😭

UnvaccinatedFamilyBears · 04/02/2022 09:29

Any update? I don’t care what these peoples nasty comments are. My daughter has the same thing and she’s 1 in a 1/2.

UnvaccinatedFamilyBears · 04/02/2022 09:30

Did your babies get covid??? Or around anyone with covid ??

Eryn5848 · 18/02/2022 01:54

Mumma96 · 01/07/2022 17:15
