Child Vaccinations

Just a quick wondering about peoples opinions of vaccinating. With all the backlash that they've had recently i'm really in two minds whether or not to vaccinate. Please let me know what you think.

Vaccinate your child. Don't be foolish.

TeddyIsaHe · 07/02/2020 09:48

There is no backlash, only uneducated idiots ghat don’t understand the difference between science and mummy bloggers trying to make money.

Get your child vaccinated.

honesttogod · 07/02/2020 09:48

Agree don't be that parent who thinks they know more than people in the medical field. Vaccinate your child.

JKScot4 · 07/02/2020 09:49

The backlash is from misinformed conspiracy theorists. Protect your kids and vaccinate them, all the scare stories have been thoroughly disproved.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 07/02/2020 09:52

Excluding those who have good valid medical reasons for not vaccinating (eg. an allergy to one of the vaccination’s components, a pre-existing medical condition that excludes it, auto-immune issues, etc), the only backlash is from idiots who have not understood how vaccines work. Not having your child die in your arms from an easily preventable disease is probably the single most wonderful thing about living in the 21st century. Why would you refuse that?

sashh · 07/02/2020 09:58

I saw a tweet from 'Satan'.

Vaccinate your kids, I'm not running a daycare down here.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 07/02/2020 10:05

Parents who choose not to vaccinate their children are neglectful and anti-social.

Vaccinate your kids!

mynameiscalypso · 07/02/2020 10:05

What backlash?!

iklboo · 07/02/2020 10:10

This AGAIN? What backlash?

DS is about to have his teen boosters. Damn right we consented - as did he (yes we asked).

Jaz1993 · 07/02/2020 11:45

I get why everyone is preaching the mantra 'vaccinate your child' but IMO you have to weigh out the risk and the benefit with all vaccinations.
My baby is 5 months and is highly intolerant to egg, which is in the current 6 in 1 vaccine I won't risk vaccinating her until she is weaned and I can determine if it is a full blown allergy or just an intolerance (NHS refuse to refer us as her pain and reflux are controlled by my breastfeeding diet.)
I think in these circumstances it is perfectly weigh up risks vs benefits.

There are studies which show the adverse effect of alliminium on the brain, which is an ingredient in many vaccinations.
Again risks vs benefit. If you don't vaccinate you are relying on everyone else to vaccinate their children to protect your child.
I am super grateful to all the parents who vaccinate their healthy children and will do so as soon as I abolish the risk of adverse reaction... AND I am your typical hippy dippy, baby wearing, organic, gentle parenting, conspiracy theory obsessed mum. Blush

TeddyIsaHe · 07/02/2020 11:57

@Jaz1993 aluminium is found in breastmilk and formula in higher quantities than vaccines, so that argument alone is ridiculous.

TheMustressMhor · 07/02/2020 12:00

Of course you should vaccinate your child, OP.

FadedRed · 07/02/2020 12:10

Intolerance or allergy to egg is not a contraindication for baby immunisations.

hauntedvagina · 07/02/2020 12:12

@Jaz1993 my niece is allergic to egg, anaphylactic reactions and is prescribed an epi pen. She had the immunisation and was fine. My understanding is that it the vaccine is grown on chick cells, and therefore doesn't contain egg. I would suggest that you speak with your GP regarding this rather than leave you child at risk.

Please, please, please vaccinate your children.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 07/02/2020 12:58

Oxford Uni do a good breakdown of why the slightly scary sounding “aluminium” content of vaccines is not a cause for concern:

Sidge · 07/02/2020 13:58

@Jaz1993 How do you know a 5 month old baby is allergic to egg? It's not exactly a weaning food.

And Infanrix Hexa has no egg or egg related proteins in it. If you're going to decline a vaccine at least know what you'er talking about.

Jaz1993 · 07/02/2020 14:31

@Sidge
I went on an elimination diet as i am breastfeeding (stated above) to see what was causing my childs discomfort and egg makes her scream in agony and get a rash all over.

The reason people become so completely anti-vaxx is because when they even question the status quo or current schedule, everyone is incredibly hostile towards them.

theseriousmoonlight · 07/02/2020 14:37

There are egg free flu vaccines so there may be egg free baby vaccines. I wouldn't put off having life saving preventatives without checking first, although obviously you may have already done that and just not said.

Facebook or any SM is not a reliable source for medical research. Doctors are. Vaccinate your child.

Jellycatfox · 07/02/2020 14:37

My baby is 5 months and is highly intolerant to egg, which is in the current 6 in 1 vaccine I won't risk vaccinating her until she is weaned and I can determine if it is a full blown allergy or just an intolerance (NHS refuse to refer us as her pain and reflux are controlled by my breastfeeding diet.)
Have you enquired about this? Because we have an egg allergy here and we were told they use chicken embryos not eggs so unless you are allergic to chicken you are ok if you are allergic to eggs, as there is actually no egg in it.

theseriousmoonlight · 07/02/2020 14:42

And I'm not sure it's hostility towards anti-vaxxers, at least not on my part. I'm more incredulous that people don't trust scientific fact.

JassyRadlett · 07/02/2020 15:34

Can you describe what backlash you’re talking about, OP?

There are a lot of different myths - from those (falsely) claiming links to autism to the lady on here who doesn’t believe viruses exist and therefore vaccines against viruses are a scam.

Sidge · 07/02/2020 15:36

@Jaz1993 I'm sorry your baby is reacting to the egg you eat and suffering like that.

However that isn't a contraindication to vaccination, and as I said there are no egg based components to the 6-in-1 vaccine (or any other baby vaccines apart from MMR).

when they even question the status quo or current schedule, everyone is incredibly hostile towards them. that isn't my experience at all, I welcome questions from concerned parents. I find it incredibly frustrating when parents don't vaccinate based on myth and misunderstanding, as you are doing.

waterbottle12 · 07/02/2020 15:36

What are you worried about OP? True vaccine reactions are very rare and the risk:benefit balance firmly favours vaccination. The backlash is largely from uneducated idiots who spend too much time on facebook.

WheresMyChocolate · 07/02/2020 15:37

Vaccinate your child. Unless you're happy to leave responsibility for your child's health to the rest of the herd and aren't that bothered if they get a life threatening disease.

Sirzy · 07/02/2020 15:40

Unless your child has a medical reason why vaccination isn’t suggested then the risk from not vaccinating is going to be much worse than the risk of vaccinating.

If you don’t vaccinate and your child develops a condition that could have been avoided could you cope with the guilt? If that condition killed your child could you cope with the guilt?
