Does anyone know what this could be on my daughters leg? It’s at the top of her leg. It’s round and red and now looks dry. It’s been there for a few months now

Has it gotten bigger over time? Is it painful?
I’d put some Savlon on it and see if there’s any change.

nonamemummy · 30/12/2019 19:23

no I think it’s kind of stayed about the same. Lately she has been scratching it a little bit but it hasn’t really bothered her

Might be fungal. Maybe speak to a pharmacist

HouseSchmurchase · 02/01/2020 22:45

Was it in the same place a vaccine was administered?

nonamemummy · 03/01/2020 08:33

I suppose it’s near the same place but she hasn’t had one for ages

I thought maybe vaccine granuloma as I've seen similar images before. They don't necessarily occur straight after a vaccine but are a reaction to aluminium. Of course it may not be this at all, but perhaps mention to the GP?

The article I've linked to is very interesting.

"The delay between vaccination and onset of symptoms is often remarkably long (months or even years)"

nonamemummy · 03/01/2020 10:58

Thankyou I’ll have a look at that now. We’ve got a doctors appointment Tuesday

Ringworm - Both mine had exactly the same.

nonamemummy · 04/01/2020 08:39

That’s what I thought it was tbh

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 04/01/2020 08:47

That's why I said it might be fungal, although ringworm normally has normal looking skin in the middle with the ring around it.

ConwyGhost · 04/01/2020 12:30

I've had ringworm and it was a very defined ring rather than a solid patch, and intensley itchy. It was silvery coloured rather than red, though yes I thought it could also be that.

nonamemummy · 04/01/2020 17:29

She’s had it a few months now and she’s only started itching it the last 3 days. It’s now gone dry and it’s breaking open and bleeding now.
Also I thought ringworm was contagious, but no one else has got it?

novacaneforthepain · 04/01/2020 17:36

Fungal I think. My daughter had the same, just clearing up now after a week of cream

dementedpixie · 04/01/2020 17:36

Yes it is contagious although when I had it on my arm no-one else got it

nonamemummy · 04/01/2020 18:30

Thanks everyone. Have to wait til Tuesday now to see what the gp says x

Oooh my little girl had this on her tummy!
It something granuloma, can't quite remember the name... completely harmless, not contagious and just fades away after a while..... think it took 2-3 months to go :)

nonamemummy · 14/01/2020 14:08

I took her to docs a week ago today who said it was psoriasis. Gave her some steroid anti biotic cream. But since then she’s now come up in horrible spotty, dry, scabby patches all over her body. Took her back yesterday and they aren’t sure what it is now. So he prescribed her 3 more lots of medicines/creams and have to go back again a week today!

take a look at Pityriasis Rosea - sounds like what I had with that - big "herald" patch with it, mine was at the top of my leg too - there for about 3-4 weeks, and then a dry, scaly, scabby rash on torso, tops of arms and tops of legs. The rash became itchier the drier it got. Was prescribed antihistamines and an intense moisturiser. It went away on its own after about 9 weeks after the rash presented.

(Doctors don't come across it often, mine called in their med students to have a look.) Has never come back.

nonamemummy · 14/01/2020 15:13

Just googled it and that seems more like it! Except the timings seem different. She had the circle for about 6 weeks before the new rashes are coming up. The rash isn’t all over, it’s mainly around her elbows, lower back and sparsely around the rest of her back, her chest and tummy and some little patches down her legs. But also on her face aswell. I’ll mention Pityriasis Rosea to the doctors next Monday when we have to go back Smile

@BeyondMyWits we’ve just had to go back to the docs for the 3rd time and this time they’ve said it is pityriasis rosea!

OP posts:
BeyondMyWits · 22/01/2020 15:55

wow - thought it looked and sounded similar.

Hope the rash is not too itchy for her - I was driven to distraction at times though antihistamines did help quite a lot... and then it just went away...

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 22/01/2020 15:58

DS2 had something similar on his bum for months, it's now disappeared with no discomfort. We never did find out what it was.

nonamemummy · 22/01/2020 16:13

It doesn’t seem to bother her. They’ve given her some epimax to wash and moisturise with and some hydrocortisone cos she has it on her face Sad and some antihistamine. Been told it will just go on it’s own
