Hi , I'm looking for some advice about my sons ( 9 month old) severe nappy rash & tummy problem. I don't want to forget anything so bare with me Grin

He has cmpa is on nutrimagin milk & omeprazole.
He also has hypospadias and is awaiting surgery.

3 weeks ago he came down with a cold due to teething . He was off his food a lot and when he did eat or drink milk it was passing through him within minutes . You can hear his stomach churning. He isn't sleeping up all night tossing and turning .

So the viral seems to have gone, however he still has severe diarrhea. Sorry for the TMI! But it is a smell like nothing I have smelt before ! I can't believe that that has came out of a 9 month old !!! It's pure slime , green. With white little lumps in Coming out the sides of Nappies onto his clothes. Has anyone else experienced this kind of diarrhea with their little one ?

He is having so many dirty Nappies a day it's now caused severe nappy rash . His little bum is red blistered all up his crotch and testicles. He is uncomfortable with it so I'm keeping him topped up with paracetamol & as much nappy free time as possible .

Yesterday the skin on his bottom actually broke so we took him to the walk in . The nurse said it could be a bacterial infection in his tummy that our gp will treat or he has a new allergy.
So we have handed in a stool sample at our gp this morning and have been prescribed timodine for his bum. But his bum is getting worse by the hour.

Please can anyone recommend any home remedies for extreme nappy rash? Or advice on the diarrhea?
Our little girl has just started nursery last Monday so we are all exhausted getting into a new routine with her and coping with all this poo !

TIA Thanks

Sounds absolutely awful. Hope the doctors come up with some answers for you.

Have you tried metanium? Anything we've had has cleared up really quickly using this but not as severe as you are dealing with.

I was going to say Timodene, OP. From memory I think it contains anti fungal, anti biotic and anti-inflammatory.

I agree with the PP that metanium, in most cases, is brilliant, but my 3rd child, who also had allergies and eczema, got terrible nappy rash once and metanium didn't touch it. Timodene sorted it. Pretty sure in retrospect, it was fungal. Good luck. Sounds very hard.

hazeyjane · 20/09/2019 14:18

The best thing we found was Conotrane. Brilliant stuff.

bigbluebus · 20/09/2019 14:28

Not a home remedy but we used to use Cavillon cream and Cavillon barrier spray for DD when she had severe nappy rash caused by antibiotic use. You can buy it off Amazon or may get it at large chemists. Used to be able to get it on prescription but most CCGs have scrapped it off their lists in favour of a cheaper option (which is a false economy in my opinion!)

Abigwhale · 20/09/2019 14:31

Nursery staff once told me to alternate nappy creams when you put them on. So one change metanium then the next one bepanthem. Not sure why but it’s seemed to help us.

mossberry · 20/09/2019 14:33

My DD has CMPA and at 5 weeks old had a severe case of nappy rash, the same as you've described, from the acid that was passing through.

We tried metanium as a PP has suggested and it didn't work. My HV suggested hydromol ointment. It's a thick greasy Vaseline type of substance but it provided a complete barrier and the blistered raw skin healed up in a couple of days. You can get it in Boots and it's fairly cheap.

I second Hydromol and Cavillon spray. Amazing stuff.

But the green slime with white lumps sounds like CMPA / allergy to me - how long ago did he start on nutramigen? It’s an amino acid formula so he shouldn’t be reacting, are you bfing as well?

Also google pics of fungal nappy rash - does it look like that? If so you need canesten cream.

MissSmiley · 20/09/2019 14:40

I second Metanium

MrsWalkz · 20/09/2019 14:41

Egg White all day long.

Apply and leave nappy off or at least uncovered until the egg white is dry. I use that over any chemicals on all of my kids and never needed anything else.

CottonSock · 20/09/2019 14:42

My dd had the white lump runs once. Yellow metanium is the absolute best imo.

Oogie · 20/09/2019 14:43

My ds had such severe nappy rash that the skin on his bum would bleed and weep. Out of desperation and multiple google searches I used cooled down Camomile tea. Worked brilliantly

Talcott2007 · 20/09/2019 14:44

Old fashioned zinc and castor oil cream - it's reaily available in boots and very cheap compared to other 'brands' so lay it on very thick. DD now 3 used you get horrific nappy rash when she was teething and this always cleared it up very quickly.

Wnikat · 20/09/2019 14:45

This is going to sound really weird but when my eldest had awful weeping nappy rash and Timodene wasn’t touching it, I somehow ended up using a hairdryer on a low heat setting on his bottom. Just a few seconds on and a few seconds off. I could see the sores drying out in front of my eyes and it really helped clear it up quicker if I did it for a few minutes several times a day.

Varnas · 20/09/2019 14:48

Home remedy - olive or almond oil and beeswax. Pour about 1/2 cup oil in a glass jar, add 1 spoon beeswax and microwave till the wax melts/about 1min/. Mix and let it cool.

scratchbass · 20/09/2019 14:48

We alternated each nappy change with either metanium or sudocreme. Before these we wiped the area with olive oil on cotton wool.

If it was a messy one we did use a wipe, blew on the area to dry it, then used the olive oil.

RoLaren · 20/09/2019 14:49

Metanium, it's magic.

bunnypenny · 20/09/2019 14:53

Aquaphor. I’ve used it since birth every nappy change and my now-10mo has never had a rash. Can’t recommend it highly enough and a little goes a long way.

Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment for Dry or Cracked Skin, Jar - 14 Oz www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005UEB96K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UMnHDb5JVSWMG?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It looks like it’s expensive but I’ve used one jar (if that) in 10months.

mammyneedsmoresleep · 20/09/2019 14:59

Sorry I've just seen all the replies ! So we had him back at gp this morning , stool sample came back clear for viruses . So gp has sent another sample off to test for bacteria wele hopefully have results by Tuesday Sad
The diarrhea worsened in the end to every hour and his little bun ha now started to bleed . He's also been prescribed a new cream for that I bought some of the metanium Nappies cream to use along side it

That was his little bum last night it's worse today Sad

I second the egg white. I always thought it was an old wives tale when mine were little, but it provides a great barrier to help it heal.

Knittedfairies · 20/09/2019 15:11

Oh, that looks sore; poor little boy. I hope it clears up soon.

SinkGirl · 20/09/2019 15:40

That’s fungal. We’ve had exactly the same recently. Canesten will clear it up quickly but you shouldn’t use any barrier cream until it’s cleared and should keep using the canesten for a week after it’s healed. We had a massive improvement in less than 48 hours.
