Hi , I'm looking for some advice about my sons ( 9 month old) severe nappy rash & tummy problem. I don't want to forget anything so bare with me Grin

He has cmpa is on nutrimagin milk & omeprazole.
He also has hypospadias and is awaiting surgery.

3 weeks ago he came down with a cold due to teething . He was off his food a lot and when he did eat or drink milk it was passing through him within minutes . You can hear his stomach churning. He isn't sleeping up all night tossing and turning .

So the viral seems to have gone, however he still has severe diarrhea. Sorry for the TMI! But it is a smell like nothing I have smelt before ! I can't believe that that has came out of a 9 month old !!! It's pure slime , green. With white little lumps in Coming out the sides of Nappies onto his clothes. Has anyone else experienced this kind of diarrhea with their little one ?

He is having so many dirty Nappies a day it's now caused severe nappy rash . His little bum is red blistered all up his crotch and testicles. He is uncomfortable with it so I'm keeping him topped up with paracetamol & as much nappy free time as possible .

Yesterday the skin on his bottom actually broke so we took him to the walk in . The nurse said it could be a bacterial infection in his tummy that our gp will treat or he has a new allergy.
So we have handed in a stool sample at our gp this morning and have been prescribed timodine for his bum. But his bum is getting worse by the hour.

Please can anyone recommend any home remedies for extreme nappy rash? Or advice on the diarrhea?
Our little girl has just started nursery last Monday so we are all exhausted getting into a new routine with her and coping with all this poo !

TIA Thanks

@mammyneedsmoresleep egg white and vaseline! Cleared up my DSs nappy rash in 2 days x

MumUndone · 20/09/2019 15:52

Poor chap, that looks sore.

OP, if your DS has CMPA, he could very well be allergic to soya, which is contained in nutramigin. Th allergies often go hand-in-hand as the protein structure is similar. Your DS should perhaps be on neocate instead.

DonPablo · 20/09/2019 16:01

Oh that looks sore. Stressful for you too.

I'd leave him nappy free for as much time as possible. Difficult but the air will do it wonders alongside anything prescribed.

I'm a fan of yellow metanium. Bugger to was off your hands and if any gets on a white vest it will be yellow forever.

If he's in pain, I'd give a dose of calpol too.

Hope it clears up soon.

cultkid · 20/09/2019 16:14

Metanium and make sure you rinse his bottom with water instead of wiping at it when he poos
Oh my heart poor thing and poor you xx

strawbmilk · 20/09/2019 16:32

That looks so so painful. Poor little thing. Hope one of the many solutions works for you and you find out what's causing it quickly x

hazeyjane · 20/09/2019 16:36

That looks similar to ds's along with open sores.

Conotrane is the mutts, honestly. They use it on bedsores as well.

hazeyjane · 20/09/2019 16:39

www.chemistdirect.co.uk/conotrane-cream-100g/prd-2b7 cheap too!

mammyneedsmoresleep · 20/09/2019 16:40

@MumUndone that's what we are beginning to think . I think if there is no improvement by Monday we are going to call his consultant . Can a new allergy develop at any time ?

Metanium in the yellow tube is the best thing on gods green earth for nappy rash!!! And the purple one when the rash has gone to be used as a barrier cream.

Hope your LO gets better soon poor mite

SinkGirl · 20/09/2019 19:41

Metanium is brilliant, as are all the other suggestions here but if it’s fungal they won’t work and it will just get worse.

It happened to us just a few weeks ago and that brighy red, tight dry looking area is exactly what it looks like, along with the dotty bits above. DT2’s just got worse and worse and we tried all the creams listed here, things that normally work.

The canesten worked really quickly thank god as I didn’t know what else to do!

Just have a google of fungal nappy rash, I’m sure that’s it but if you’re unsure a pharmacist can check for you

mammyneedsmoresleep · 20/09/2019 19:46

It's now spreading up around his testicles bless him and they are looking quite swollen Sad now my MIL called before and she saod fresh fennel ground up into a paste ? Has anyone tried that ? The egg whites just slid off his bum haha.

ThAnkyou for all the get well wishes everyone really appreciate it Thanks. He's tucked up in bed now after some calpol and a little porridge. I'm hoping for a tad more sleep tonight !

Just a thought but Calpol seemed to give my kids loose bowels - it has sweeteners. But so did teething.

MumUndone · 20/09/2019 21:48

Not sure OP but definitely worth trying a different formula.

Luxembourgmama · 20/09/2019 21:51

Corn flour

RandomMess · 20/09/2019 22:04

We used "Sprilon" spray available for like £9 a time but lasted ages. I suspect it's the same/different brand of Cavillon mentioned up thread.

It's designed to protect bed sores from faeces and urine.

Homealone3 · 20/09/2019 22:24

Lots of nappy free time

On towels or open nappies so you can see when he goes and remove the wet/dirt straight away from his skin.

I've been there when my dd was 6 months, it was awful.

Sudocream is great but just preventing the skin being in contact with the acidic stuff is the best way.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/09/2019 22:25

Not read whole thread but what nappies are you using? Mine all reacted horrifically to pampers!

MuchTooTired · 20/09/2019 22:32

My dd had nappy rash like that for months, it used to bleed as well, and it was awful! I tried every cream under the sun, medicated and over the counter, all the home remedies and nappy free time. The only one I’ve found that cut it frankly, is weleda candula cream - you can get it in boots etc, but it’s about a fiver on amazon prime. It’s blooming amazing stuff. Cleared it up in a matter of days, I won’t use anything else for her now.

mammyneedsmoresleep · 21/09/2019 17:02

Hi , just a update , we are alternating between the prescribed cream and the metanium. It does look ALOT better but the sores have now started to bleed and he cries when I try to sit him on his bum Sad
The diarrhea is still the same also . Hoping his results will be at the gps on Monday and get some answers . As soft as I sound, I'm starting to fee very upset for him . 6 times he was up in the night crying with a full . We had to leave sainsburys today as I had already stopped twice to change him and ran out of spare babygrows with me

OP posts:
CottonSock · 21/09/2019 18:52

My daughter had similar twice. They never did find a cause from the poop samples, but slowly she recovered. I think it was about 10 days. Are you using pampers baby dry? I find them the best nappies personally.

mammyneedsmoresleep · 21/09/2019 18:56

@CottonSock it's awful isn't , yeah that's our normal brand . Since his bum has gotten in this state off the diarrhea we've bought the next size up so they are baggier on his bum to let it breath a little better when he has to have one on x

My LB had exactly the same, it’s so sad to see them in such pain. I found alternating metanium and caneston worked along with lots of plain water baths. Also, switch to own brand nappies, I found pampers made my LB rash so much worse, I think they are quite scented. Aldi or Tesco were the best.
