Sorry but this post is very tmi!!

Been having trouble with Ds poos. He's 11 months and for the past two months hes had some horrible nappies, from awful diarrhoea to watery mucus. We've been to the doctors with him and they took a swab but it came back as normal.
This evening he's done a horrible green poo with lots of bits in it, I pulled at one of this bits on his bum and this came out!!! I'm sorry again this is all tmi!!

Tapeworm?

VictoriaBun · 02/08/2019 21:48

What is it. Paper / a piece of plastic ? Is he mobile and picked it up and ate it without you seeing ?

Mopmum35 · 02/08/2019 21:49

What has he ate today?

ShabbaDo · 02/08/2019 21:49

Have you fed him anything with bean sprouts?

slipperywhensparticus · 02/08/2019 21:52

Looks like a bean sprout 🤣

Emptyspacex · 02/08/2019 21:53

I have no idea really couldn't tell. Looked like stringy mucus but a bit more solid.
No bean sprouts, had pasta for tea but not tell spaghetti type and sandwich for lunch. Doesnt look like food or something he would pick up and eat.

Tapeworm

mineofuselessinformation · 02/08/2019 22:01

Did he have anything yesterday that it could be? A piece of broccoli? Any other possibly 'stringy' veg - runner beans, etc.
If not, I would suggest you save it (yuck, sorry!) and show it to your GP soon.

Emptyspacex · 02/08/2019 22:04

Do has already chucked it ffs!!
Worried about tapeworm now, is it really bad?
There were leaks in the pasta. That's all I can think of.

Back to GP his poo sounds abnormal, never mind the swab being ok.

It will be something he’s ate. 11 month babies in the uk do not have tapeworm

Emptyspacex · 02/08/2019 22:08

Yeah will defiently be book an appointment again on Monday something clearly isn't right.

Longdistance · 02/08/2019 22:10

Leek is quite stringy.

pastabest · 02/08/2019 22:30

That's a piece of leek not a tapeworm.

Congratulations on getting an 11 month old to eat leeks, in my opinion you must be winning at this parenting lark Grin

Might be worth asking the GP to test for Coeliac disease or a dairy intolerance.

longtimelurkerhelen · 02/08/2019 22:30

It doesn't look like a worm. Leeks I think get a bit jelly like when wet, same as spring onions when you wash them. It's probably that.

tempester28 · 02/08/2019 22:33

It doesn't look like a worm to me.

Mustbetimeforachange · 02/08/2019 22:34

Leek for sure. Tapeworms have segments.

bevelino · 02/08/2019 22:35

OP, you need to take your baby to your GP for a proper diagnosis rather than asking complete strangers on mumsnet.

Seaweed42 · 02/08/2019 22:37

I found at that age food would go through undigested. I changed my daughters nappy once to be confronted with several entirely whole and intact mandarin orange segments. I would say it's a piece of leek.
Keep a notebook in the kitchen and note down everything he eats.
There could be some food item that triggers it. My daughter had frequently had very bad nappies till she was more than aged 2.
I worried that I'd never be able to potty train her but it all started to 'solid up' as she got older.
Things like raw apple even can trigger a sensitive tummy sometimes.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 02/08/2019 22:43

That's definitely not tapeworm, they are segments. I'd go leek!

endofthelinefinally · 02/08/2019 22:48

You have to keep a food and stool diary for at least 2 weeks. Do it really carefully. the GP would tell you to do this, so you might as well do it while you wait.
Download a copy of the stool chart and keep a record of that too.

Supersimpkin · 02/08/2019 22:48

Leek layers are clear and soft and long.

Thank goodness.

endofthelinefinally · 02/08/2019 22:48

Sorry, link went wrong, google Bristol Stool chart.
