Molluscum Contagiosum

My DD9 has been suffering with this for about 3 months now and unfortunately because it's at the top of her thighs it's rubbing on clothing and becoming really sore. The doctor told me to leave it and it should clear up on its own however it seems to be getting worse and spreading down her legs.
I've ordered MolluDab last night from Amazon. I'd be grateful to hear of anyone else's experience using this and If it's been a success. Thank you.

I’ve been looking up old threads on here as my ds 4 has a few mc spots/boils.

We got comfrey ointment and have tried it today. Good luck with the molludab.
Ds isn’t likely to let us squeeze them but that seems like a preferred tactic on the older threads.

NoLeopard · 28/07/2019 19:40

They will never clear up on their own ime! After 2 years we put plasters on them all so when they 'exploded' the fallout was contained. They cleared up within a month. Good luck!

Justaboutawake · 28/07/2019 19:42

We bought molludab on the advice of a dermatologist. Expensive for the tiny amount you get in the bottle but it does the trick.

Jayneisagirlsname · 28/07/2019 20:06

I'm using molludab on my 11 year old ds at the moment. I think it is working - it is certainly bringing some to a head but he is still getting new little ones so we're having to be so vigilant about clean towels, bedding etc.
Ds is desperate not to go to secondary school with it so fingers crossed it works for him and your dd too.

LongtimeLurker2 · 28/07/2019 20:16

Thank you for your responses. We're on day two of applying Molludab and although a painful procedure for DD to go through (we have tears after every application) it does seem to be drying them out. She tells me it stings but after 10 minutes that does stop so just using the Mantra short term pain long term gain and bribery with white choc mini magnums each night after the evening application. Grin
Fingers crossed this works. Until we had this problem I hadn't heard of this however after lots of research it appears to be quite a common problem.

My 5 year old has got this and he only has one or two spots on his tummy it's making me worried that it's going to end up being quite a long haul and spread badly. They are quite big spots more like moles or warts. We've already had a couple burst.

I've just ordered Molludab After seeing your thread thank you. I'm wondering if the plaster trick is worth trying

ZenNudist · 28/07/2019 20:36

Ds wears pjs in bed. How often do you change phs and bedding?

Nordicmom · 28/07/2019 20:51

Both of my kids had them when toddlers years apart from each other . We tried many things inc Molludab. They eventually went away on their own in about 6 m-12 m . Before my son getting them I had never even heard of them ...

Hoppinggreen · 28/07/2019 20:53

Molludab did help when DD had it
Wasn’t a miracle cure but I’m sure it sped things up

Malteserdiet · 28/07/2019 20:53

One of my DC had this a few years ago and after waiting over 18 months for it to apparently go on it’s own I got fed up and squeezed two of the big ones on his hip. As awful as it sounds it seemed that once they bled a little bit after squeezing all the gunk out, every single one vanished within about a week. A GP once said that they are a virus that lives under a bubble on the outside of the body. So it seemed that once his body actually knew the virus was there, he was able to make the antibodies to zap all of them.
Obviously this is probably not the medically advised solution but depends how fed up you get with them!

ritzbiscuits · 28/07/2019 20:55

Molludab was amazing for my 5 yo DS. Took about 10 days treatment twice a day for spots to turn red and then start to clear up.

It was really painful for him but was well worth it. He found the spots so itchy pre treatment I'm so glad we tried Molludab.

Good luck.

wilberforce2 · 28/07/2019 20:59

My 5 year olds took around 18 months to go and she still has a stubborn one on her bum cheek. I listened to everyone who told me that there isn't a cure and just left them alone but now my 10 year old has them on his elbow crease and he hates them so I've bought some Moludab which arrived today, really hoping it works!

Ivegotthree · 28/07/2019 21:00

My son had this for years. Repeated trips to the GP saw us being told it would go away. I ordered every alleged cure I could find, to no avail.

In the end I paid to see a private dermatologist who froze them all off. That was the end of it.

Wish I'd done it years ago. If you're in London DM me and I'll tell you who I saw. Not cheap but worth years of poor DS ashamed of his spots on his legs.

Notthisnotthat · 28/07/2019 21:02

My DD had them, was a nightmare until I found scratchy balm sold by LJ Naturals. It's not a cure but calmed the redness down amazingly. We then went on holiday and had our own salt water pool with a small toddler area. The healing began after being on the holiday, maybe due to being in the water a lot.

Champagne791 · 28/07/2019 21:05

My nephew has it badly, for the bad ones SIL brought compeed blister plasters and it worked.

LongtimeLurker2 · 28/07/2019 21:57

ZenNudist my DD wears different pj's every night and bedding washed once a week. Hers are on the top of her thighs in between her legs so can be kept covered with Pj bottoms.
On Friday one burst and I phoned doctors to book appointment as it was so red and swollen however couldn't get in. The doctors had previously advised leaving to heal on their own. I've even enquired with doctors about getting Molludab on prescription however they wouldn't/couldn't prescribe. After Friday I thought I need to just buy at a cost of £23 as I'm sick of leaving them as they were getting worse and more painful. I must say it appears to be drying them out however only on 4 th treatment. It's a dab on morning and evening but I will keep you updated on progress.

LongtimeLurker2 · 28/07/2019 22:01

I have taken pictures of before we started treatment so if I can work out how to post I'll post pre treatment and a week after to compare.
Fingers crossed for everybody dealing with this. I'm shocked the NHS doesn't offer more help on this. I feel so sorry for children with them in visible areas. Currently my DD can keep them covered but I've been worried about her scratching and touching her face etc. The sooner these go the better.
We're also away in a few weeks so hopeful the salt water will help too.

catontherun · 02/08/2019 22:27

molludab worked wonders for us. Painful for the child and expensive to buy but within 10 days things started to improve and the molluscum was gone fairly quickly compared to the GP's statement that it could take 2 years to clear up as apparently "there's no treatment for it".

LongtimeLurker2 · 02/08/2019 22:59

I've been struggling to use it on my DD every day she's now not able to cope with the pain . Can I ask what happened when you used it, did the spots swell up and look red, if so did you continue to use on them spots?
We've had tears and it's become a battle so last night and this morning we've just covered in savlon or tea tree. I'm at a loss what to do really.
Some of the spots seem to have reduced however some look really painful and when we use Molludab she can't take the pain of it, DD says it burns even in the spots that look new.

OP posts:
TheBrockmans · 02/08/2019 23:06

I didn't use Molludab but when they start to look red and angry I think it means that the immune system has recognised the virus and is beginning to fight it, so hopefully you will turn the corner soon.

Goldrill · 02/08/2019 23:08

My DD is 8 and has had them for about 3 years. They're actually going at last with molludab. Thank goodness. She's been really good and doesn't pick or scratch them, and she won't let me near them!
Molludab seems to be working, but am not sure it should be hurting? If you put a near-invisible amount on the actual blister it shouldn't hit the healthy skin around it. DD has no pain threshold whatsoever and she's not bothered by it. Can you try using less?

spinn · 02/08/2019 23:09

Once they pop the fluid is contagious and spreads it so you need to cover anynthat are popping - we find when red it's a sign they are about to pop so I controlled pop them, some Savlon and plaster helps control it.

My middle kid had 40plus spots at one point - in the end I popped loads in one go and covered him in plasters, now a year later he just has a couple left which we keep an eye on.
Youngest has it now and quite a few on his face so I'm letting them be as he doesn't seem to be anywhere near as much covered.

I also found dabbing cider vinegar into the spot and then covering it did help as well... but in the end popping them with two thumb nails just under the lumpy bit got the lump out and covering it was the most effective in the end

DragonMamma · 02/08/2019 23:13

I absolutely detest MC - it was the bane of our lives for a year. Luckily only the youngest got it but they were so red and angry.

We tried everything - molludab, lemon myrtle, thuja supplements and a tonne of other stuff.

DC used to get eczema around his and so the doctor prescribed a steroid cream (not hydrocortisone) and once we started on that the spots went black and disappeared finally!

You have my sympathies - it’s an absolute arse to get rid of.

BrokenWing · 02/08/2019 23:32

Ds had them for around 10 months all over his tummy, chest, arms and tops of legs. Thankfully didn't get to his face. We left them alone as didn't fancy the pain or scarring risks of molludab, and other "treatments" seemed at best hit if miss, and probably when the spots were due to go anyway.

Ds's started getting worse, probably his immune system kicking in, they started going red/bloody, the worst ones we put plasters on (so they didn't show blood through clothes, maybe stop spreading), a few weeks later they had completely gone.

I'd honestly leave them until they go off their own accord and not put your dd through the distress of burning with molludab or painfully squeezing lots of spots, which only might, probably won't work.
