Right, my little girl has eczema really bad. It started all of a sudden and we were given creams up on creams to try but nothing is working. I can't work it out what has caused it but I used to use childs farm then this started and I started using something I thought was more moisturising on it. The hv also told me to stop using childs farm etc. But Iv now been reading how good it is for eczema and I'm thinking I may try it? Has anyone got any experience with this?
I'll post pics aswell. The first are 20th Dec when it started and the bad ones are now

My DC suffer too and the only thing that really helps is steroid cream. We also use oilatum liquid in the bath and then oilatum cream all over.

YourFly · 08/02/2019 22:04

My DD was like this and it was cows milk.

It went after about 10 days after stopping.

Bearlove · 08/02/2019 22:08

@YourFly we are currently on aptamil pepti 1 to see if this is the case. She was on cow and gate and was fine then we put her on comfort and she got bad skin on her face so we went back to normal and she was fine for a while then this happened. Was this the only symptom they had?

3boysandabump · 08/02/2019 22:10

Yeh that also looks like my sons eczema when he's having an allergic reaction to something he's/I've eaten

IWouldLikeToKnow · 08/02/2019 22:10

You will need a steroid cream to reduce the inflammation then emollient 3-4 times a day to keep it away.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/02/2019 22:11

Can I ask what you're washing her clothes in?

fabulous01 · 08/02/2019 22:13

This brings back bad memories
My advice is to get referred to specialist. We got it via health visitor who was amazing. Specialist prescribed anti biopics and cream. All the GP stuff was crap. The weather doesn't help
Good luck it is awful to see them in pain

Bearlove · 08/02/2019 22:13

@IWouldLikeToKnow Iv been doing that but it's spreading all over her body now. It's patches like that and spots.

@JiltedJohnsJulie I use fairy non bio and comfort sensitive and have done since she was born.

OP posts:
Bearlove · 08/02/2019 22:15

@fabulous01 it is so horrible, she can't have naked time or enjoy a bath coz we have to told her hands to stop her scratching. There is so much out there that it could be that I'm just at my wits end! No one seems to actually be helping I'm at the docs every week

OP posts:
JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/02/2019 22:18

If you know that Fairy changed about the time your DDs eczema started? It might be worth changing to a different non-bio. Lidl's non-bio seems to suit our skin Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/02/2019 22:18

*Did you know

practicallyimpractical38 · 08/02/2019 22:20

Hi my little girl suffered with this too, it also came on all of a sudden and we tried EVERYTHING to clear it. We tried formulas, cows milk, goats milk, homeopathic medicine and every cream that could be purchased. The only thing that helped was a steroid cream when it was really bad but the doctor was very reluctant to give me this.
I know it's of no help to you now but I am convinced it was linked to her teeth and as suddenly it appeared it also disappeared and she now has porcelain skin.
I hope this is what happens for your little girl, in the meantime I would try to stick to as natural products as possible and use the steroid cream if you have to

Bearlove · 08/02/2019 22:21

@what do you mean it changed?
Iv been using the same bottle since she was born in sept tho

Hi there,
First off take her to the gp for a diagnosis if you haven't already . My son was like this but we got it under control eventually. You need a good emoillent, you will need to try a few before you find one that works well, we currently use doublebase gel which works for us but have tried loads. Whatever the gp gives you make sure it is pump action not a tub (in case it gets contaminated then spread on broken skin) and that when you apply it you use gentle downwards strokes with the grain of the skin (tip from National Eczema Soc. who are awesome and have lovely nurses who will chat to you). Apply morning and at every nappy change and after bath and before bed. We applied pretty much 2-3 hourly in the day until we got it under control. If you're given hydrocortisone by gp start at 1% and be v sparing, skin should just glisten. Never put on face or other delicate areas - we used bepanthen there. Also leave at least half an hour before emoillent or won't work. Keep baths short and do not use wet cloths to soothe. We used aveeno bath oil a collodial oat based bath oil. Oilatum made it worse for us. Do not exclude food without medical advice, lactose intolerance can cause eczema but not always. Hope this is helpful and not annoying. Pm me if you need to. Good luck with your beautiful baby Flowers

Poor little one. My DS started like this at 6 months old. I tried everything - cutting out dairy, goats milk, loads of different creams etc. What helped most was silk gloves from derma silk - helped his hand eczema and stopped him causing too much damage from scratching at night. Antihistamine to help the itch (but didn’t start that untilhe was older - not sure if appropriate for your little one). Please don’t use aqueous cream which is normally Dr’s first choice - it stings and us useless. We have found all the Cetaphil range really great for washing, moisturising etc. I use Fairy no bio but can’t use any fabric softener, even the comfort sensitive.

Marbles321 · 08/02/2019 22:25

My ds has been suffering with this- turns out it's the extremely hard water in the area we live affecting him when he has his bath. Quite common round here apparently. Whats the water like where you are? I've cut down on the baths to 3 a week and use Epsom salts in the water to counteract the hard minerals. It definitely seems to be working as his skin is vastly improved. Also using aveeno emmolient cream daily which also helps. I feel for you and your dd, it's awful isn't it?

ponygirlcurtis · 08/02/2019 22:25

Poor wee thing, OP. I found that soap flakes were the only thing I could use to wash my DC's clothes in when he was a baby (he can tolerate Fairy now he's older). Still can't use any softener at all though. He seems to react to creams with a petroleum base, which are used in a lot of the prescribed emollient creams, so you might need to try other things like Aveeno. It's very much trial and error though because it might be completely different for your wee one. Good luck to you.

Canshopwillshop · 08/02/2019 22:25

Oh and just read overripebanana’s post and we had the same with Oilatum - made DS’s eczema much worse.

fabulous01 · 08/02/2019 22:27

I was exactly same. Honestly the health visitor did the referral. She said it wasn't nornmal and got the process started. I used to cry dressing one of mine(I have twins) every day
Consultant heard what we had been doing and said... we were pissing in the wind
I had tried every washing powder, every cream under sun and GP stuff
Within a day of the anti booties her hair started growing and skin started clearing. We got anti biotic cream as well.
We still use the hydromol at times ( like now)

I really recommend speaking to health visitor. It was life changing for us at that time

fabulous01 · 08/02/2019 22:29

Also we were told bathing was essential. Girls get daily baths but consultant was adamant skin needed it

Bearlove · 08/02/2019 22:29

@overripebanana we currently use bepanthan all over every time I change her nappy, I have a b mild steroid cream we use aswell. Then I bath her in zeroderm and then lather it on before bed. Oilatum does not work for us. We ve tried epaderm but tbf I haven't used anything for a long period of time because I expect it to work over night and if she wakes up and it's worse I obvs stopped using it.
The other day I washed stuff in surcare and I'm sure it made it worse again. I just don't wana see her like this. Before Dec she had perfect skin! She gets it all round the edges of her head aswell

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 08/02/2019 22:30

Oh bless her. Poor little darling.
I had a cows milk allergy when I was small and often ended up like that.
Keep going back to the docs until they come up with something that works for her.

In the meantime, a handful of porridge oats tied in some tights and dropped into the bath usually helps to ease mine.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/02/2019 22:30

If it's the same bottle, it might not be the washing that's doing it but it might still be worth trying a different brand Smile

Agree with the others that it sounds like it could be CMPA.
