What does this rash look like?

Dd had this a few days, going to take her to the doctors tomorrow but just wondered. An allergic reaction? Or something else do you think? Just wondering as dh has a weakened immune system so hoping it's nothing contagious

Has she had chicken pox? Could be a shingles rash

Soubriquet · 03/01/2019 19:56

I thought it looks a bit eczema-ish

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 19:56

Yes she had chicken pox as a baby. She does have eczema but never like this

Where is it and how old is DD? My guess would be shingles too. I’ve had it and it looks like that.

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 19:57

Clearer picture. She's 7. Oh I hope not, we have a 4 month old baby too

She also say it's under her arm out and round the nipple area. A couple of small spots on her back

If you get chicken pox under age 1 there is a higher chance of childhood shingles.

dementedpixie · 03/01/2019 20:01

If it follows a line (of a nerve) on one half of the body then it sounds like shingles. When ds had it age 3 or was under his armpit and extended to the chest area

dementedpixie · 03/01/2019 20:02

You can get chicken pox from contact with fluid from the blisters so best to keep it covered

Shadow1986 · 03/01/2019 20:04

It really does look like shingles sorry. If it is it will get sore and itchy and blistegry looking and then turn scabby. Yes that’s true the 4 month could catch chicken pox from the blisters so best to keep the area covered/don’t share bath and towels etc.

Ifeelinclined · 03/01/2019 20:06

I'm pretty sure that's shingles. It looks like mine when I had it. Sorry, OP

thinkingcapon · 03/01/2019 20:09

I'm also pretty sure it's shingles

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 20:27

Thanks. Feeling a bit annoyed as she's just come back from her dads and I wasn't informed about any rash. As soon as she saw the baby she was kissing and cuddling him and I had no idea. They've been putting cream on it apparently.

Will take her to the doctors first thing but least I know what to expect now. Just need to maybe stay with my mum until it's cleared as dh can't be around anyone with anything infectious

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 03/01/2019 20:34

Has he had chicken pox? At least it doesn't spread through the air like chicken pox would as that would be harder to control

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 20:38

No he hasn't had it. I know he has to have it at some point. Will just have to see if he gets it I suppose

Shadow1986 · 03/01/2019 20:40

I think if you haven’t experienced/seen shingles it wouldn’t even cross your mind so although it’s annoying, it can’t be helped. And it’s only the fluid from the blisters that can pass on chicken pox and looks like they haven’t got to that stage yet so sure she will be fine. Doctor will be able to advise you more tomorrow.
Just also to say, most people think you can only get shingles once but I’ve had it around 4/5 times, luckily very mildly.

dementedpixie · 03/01/2019 20:41

I meant has your dh had CP?

AnneOfCleavage · 03/01/2019 20:44

Could it be impetigo? It's very infectious so wash hands thoroughly after touching it. Looks quite like it could be.

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 20:45

Oh sorry! Yes he has had them so at least that's something

OP posts:
Shadow1986 · 03/01/2019 20:56

If you zoom into the picture OP it does look like lots of tiny fluid filled spots, like shingles.

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 21:08

Yep I can see it now I've looked into it abit more. She was ill the week before Xmas, high temp etc but she never says she feels ill. I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong but guessing that was it. She can't wait to get back to school on Monday bless her

OP posts:
Shadow1986 · 03/01/2019 21:10

If it’s scabbed by then she should be fine go go back on Monday. Even if it isn’t - if it’s covered it should be fine. Doctor will tell you - mine said as long as I wore a cardigan (was on my back) there was no reason to stay off work.

blinkerss · 03/01/2019 21:23

@Shadow1986 oh that's good then thank you. I really have no idea about shingles. I just remember my best friend been off school weeks with it. I just assumed she would need a few days off school

OP posts:
Shadow1986 · 03/01/2019 21:25

It might be different for her as at school there would more likely be children that hadn’t yet had chicken pox compared to my office. But hopefully it’s not a bad case. It seems to effect everyone very differently.

cricketmum84 · 03/01/2019 21:27

Looks similar to a rash my DD had last week, big red blotches all over her chest and back with raised spots.

GP diagnosed viral infection and said the rash is the body's immune system reactive to the virus. Almost like Hives.

I would see GP if it doesn't go though. We have calpol and half a piriton and I put a little calamine lotion on that we had left over from chickenpox!
