10 y/o DS Sore privates/pain when urinating HELP!

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 08:03

Good morning everyone,

My DS has woken up and is almost in tears. I asked him what was up and he said that his ‘willy hurted’. He said it started hurting about 1hr ago but he tried to get back to sleep. He was very embarrassed about the matter but he was in so much pain that he allowed me to look. His foreskin is very red and swollen, I can’t see the inside because he can’t retract his foreskin yet (I don’t think) and I don’t want to cause any harm by trying to pull it back when he is in so much pain. He also says that it burns when he tries to have a wee.

We are on holiday at the moment in Turkey and we are not due back until Sunday afternoon. Otherwise I would have taken him to the doctors.

I am not sure of any creams that we can get over here. Any suggestions/advice much appreciated,

Clare

Try a pharmacy.

To help him wee, pour Luke warm water over his penis while he wees.
How's his temperature?

Ikeameatballs · 28/05/2018 08:09

He needs antibiotics. Not sure if a pharmacy will be able to help in Turkey, you may need to organise seeing a doctor.

donajimena · 28/05/2018 08:10

Similar to what straight said when my son had symptoms similar to your boys my GP recommended filling a jug or recepticle with tepid water. When he needs to urinate start the process in water. I remember this but i can't remember the diagnosis. Maybe balinitis (sp?) I really would try and find a doctor though.

ipswichwitch · 28/05/2018 08:11

Could be balanitis
www.nhs.uk/conditions/balanitis/
DS1 has had it a couple of times and needed antibiotics both times as well as the creams on that link there

He is a bit hot (I can’t measure accurately) but I guess it is normal since we are in a relatively hot country.I will try the water shortly. The receptionist said that the pharmacy is 3 miles away so I am not sure whether it would be worth it. I will ask if there is a doctor nearer than the pharmacy.

Any ideas how to help to ease the pain until we can find a doctor?

imsorryiasked · 28/05/2018 08:21

Calpol?

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 08:22

I would try Calpol, but I can’t get that for him unless we go to the pharmacy or doctor.

Has he got mesh inside his swimming trunks? This always rubs my DS in some very uncomfortable places, I have to cut the mesh out.
I hope he feels better soon

RoseDog · 28/05/2018 08:26

If you have normal paracetamol he can have one of those until you can get him calpol.

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 08:28

He normally likes to wear briefs or aqua shorts for swimming.

He has managed to pass a tiny squirt of wee but it is so painful he says he needs to go but he just can’t. Any ideas? Would putting him in a bath help?

reachforthewine · 28/05/2018 08:46

You need a Dr for him OP.

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 08:50

We are looking but so far we have only found one doctor available and she is 15 miles away and she can only fit us in at 7pm BST. So I am not sure whether it is worth going or not. I don’t see what she will be able to do that a pharmacy can’t.

A Dr can prescribe antibiotics, a pharmacy can't.

If you've ever had a UTI you'll know your poor ds is in pain. I used to get them a lot and a specialist I saw said first sign drink a litre of water and then cranberry juice to flush it out.

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 09:02

Okay, I didn’t know that a pharmacy can’t prescribe antibiotics, I am making sure that he is drinking lots of water so he should not be dehydrated.

Don't some countries sell antibiotics in pharmacy? Put his symptoms into google translate and show it to pharmacist?
I did that once in Greece

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 09:28

I’ll take him to the pharmacy soon, I just hope they understand and the antibiotic won’t make it worse. Out of interest, what age will his foreskin be retractable?

OP posts:
PotteringAlong · 28/05/2018 09:30

I think you really need to take him to the doctors.

Toofle · 28/05/2018 09:47

Not sure how wise it is to keep drinking if he can't pee. Take him to hospital or doctor at once. My son had to be circumcised as a result of / cure for balanitis.

donajimena · 28/05/2018 09:53

Of course its worth going to the doctor. Poor thing.

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 09:58

We have been to the pharmacy and they recommended to go to the hospital in the next town (2 miles away). What Toofle said is very scary, I never knew that it could be that serious, I don’t want him to loose his foreskin. So should I stop him from drinking? I feel so bad for him.

OP posts:
NoStraightEdges · 28/05/2018 10:07

Peeing in the bath might help, but if you've had a recommendation to go to hospital, you need to just go straight there. Hope it's sorted soon.

Clare84 · 28/05/2018 10:09

They didn’t say I had to go but since there are no doctors available we decided to. We are in the waiting room now.

My DS had this aged 6 - he was kept in for a day and given IV antibiotics then sent home on antibiotics. After a few hours on the IV he was able to pass water. Sending best wishes op Flowers
