molluscum contagiosum help!!

My ds is 3 1/2 and has a bad case of MC. It started off with about 7 spots on his navel now they have spread up his torso, under his arms and down his fore arms. I’ve been to see a dermatologist that recommended moludab. This stings ds and he won’t allow me to use it on him. He has a bath every night with a clean towel and pjs. Does any one know how I can prevent them from spreading even more or even help to make them go quicker. Thanks

Frustratingly we were told to leave them well alone and that they would go of their own accord.

Dd had them from around 18m to about 3yo. Eventually it got to the point where each bath we would notice one gone. It felt like we would never get to that point.

My son was diagnosed with this before xmas!! There is more and more everyday :(

moreismore · 04/01/2018 19:19

I noticed the ones my DS picked actually got better quicker... I think it’s the same as the moludab you make them inflamed and it encourages your immune system to clear them... you could also try general immune boosters like vit c, Zinc and vit d

Oblomov18 · 04/01/2018 19:27

I tried everything. Kept being told to leave them alone and they'd go. They didn't. In the end I used a cream that didn't work.
Then I got moludab. I picked them as soon as they looked ripe, which some people told me not to, but it made them open to the moludab, which Ds2 said thus stung. Sad but after a few single spots being treated with moludab , it went.

Glad I did it!

Chrisinthemorning · 04/01/2018 19:32

Molludab plus squeezing the biggest one worked here. DS is 5 though so open to bribery in return for “mummy doing dib dabs”

Mumtoajw · 04/01/2018 19:33

I have been back to the doctor. He told me to squeeze them. Ds won’t leave me any where near them. Might wait until he is sleeping and pick a few then put the moludab on. They don’t bother him but they look awful. X

Molludab worked for us.

He didn't want it on him but we just got on with the job and he got used to it

Mumtoajw · 04/01/2018 19:38

Thanks. How long did it take after using the moludab for them to go

Molludab worked for us quickly. You stop using it when the spots go red (after about 5 days) and they were gone in around a fortnight. I wouldn't recommend picking or squeezing the spots as my daughter did and now has quite bad scarring. The home remedies didn't work for us and by the time we used the molludab her spots had spread so much that the nightly ritual was painful (for both of us 😣). My son had less than 10 spots and suffered the same treatment without fuss or scarring as I caught them earlier.

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 04/01/2018 21:10

My son had this. The dr wouldn't prescribe anything so after reading threads in here I used tea tree oil shower gel on him and covered each spot with a small spot plaster. This really helped them stop spreading and they cleared up soon afterwards. Of course, it may have cleared up anyway but i think it helped.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/01/2018 17:09

Ds had them for about 10 months a couple of years ago mostly all over is torso, with a few on his arms and thighs. We found sticking plasters on them when they were exploding help stop them spread, he was 12 and at secondary school so hated them when getting changed for PE or football practice as they were really obvious . At one point around 10 of them were angry at the same time and he was covered in plasters, but then they all quickly disappeared within a couple of weeks.

One of his friends have it just now and I’m dreading ds getting it again.

LucyLastik · 05/01/2018 17:11

13 yo DD has them on her face... one particularly huge one near the corner of her eye. I squeezed one and they all went away.

Silvertap · 05/01/2018 21:10

We saw an almost instant reduction in the redness and spread but it took probably about a month to get rid of the last pesky spots.

AvtarRamKaur · 05/01/2018 21:13

I'm annoyed that our gp didn't prescribe anything! It went through all of my dd's over the course of a year. Painful and embarrassing for them.

Mischa123 · 05/01/2018 21:19

I was never offered cream but used sudocrem which seemed to dry them out and ripen them all at once and when they had burst they went

Tessermee · 05/01/2018 21:33

DS had this but they were mostly on his legs particularly behind his knees. He had some huge painful ones. We put sudocrem on them when they were bleeding or messy looking Confused and just carried on as normal. He had them for about 6 months and one day I noticed they looked better and they just started disappearing. I think they are a bit like verrucas the body just has to fight them off in its own time. I did notice though that they seemed to get worse (bigger or started bleeding) then suddenly got better.

Vesper8 · 05/01/2018 21:39

Bathing in apple cider vinegar cleared them up quickly and without scarring. Make sure it's in a hot shower and wash the area well afterwards so they don't spread. May sting a little but highly effective. Can get it from any supermarket. Hope it works OP - all the best x

Ragusa · 05/01/2018 21:45

DD has these at the moment. she has just popped an inflamed corker so I am hoping that that is the beginning of the end for those little mofos.

Ragusa · 05/01/2018 21:46

I refuse to buy the molludab thing because it is £££ and the ingredients cost pennies. You can buy it online for a few quid, from soap-making suppliers. It will be neat, though, while molludab is diluted down to a % solution. Still ....

Munchyseeds · 06/01/2018 20:15

All I can tell you is that they will go eventually...seems to take forever tho!. I'm pretty sure that you can't catch them twice

Sisterthree · 07/01/2018 00:28

Don't squeeze or pierce them. It makes them spread. Keep them covered. There are lots of treatments available. We used Mollenol for our thee children.

Mumtoajw · 29/03/2018 22:28

Just an update. They have now all gone 😁. They started disappearing now there aren’t any left. So glad they gone on time for summer. If we have one

In case anyone else is reading too- we used the homeopathic Thuja tablets from Boots and saw a difference within days and they went.

WeAllHaveWings · 31/03/2018 10:11

Its is such a relief when they eventually go. Ds had it when he was 11, his first year at secondary school and he hated them and getting changed for PE. They went just before Christmas one year and he said it was the best Christmas present ever!

NotSureThisIsWhatIWant · 31/03/2018 10:20

This thread fills me with hope. GPS wouldn’t prescribe anything as “they will go on their own”. First time around he had them for 4 years, this last one, at least 6 (yes, years!)

Does Molidab is prescribed or can you get it over the counter?
