Very ill Baby and no idea what to do

My 13 month old baby is really poorly.
He's gone off and point blank refusing anything but water. Can't get any milk into him or food. He's lethargic and very clingy. He suddenly won't sleep through the night, won't nap at usual times, bad cough, diarrhoea, runny nose, temperature etc.
Thing is before he got poorly, he is a very independent baby. He loves to play and explore, eat everything, slept through the night and regular nap time. I rang 111 because every time we try to feed him food or formula he vomits it back up. Effortlessly. It just pours out of him. 111 told me to get him to the hospital who just sent us away. We went to the GP who checked him over and sent us away but I'm worried. It's been since Christmas Eve and he's just getting worse. Any advice?

Its ok to go back to A & E. Too many days without milk/food Its great you are offering water via syringe often and in smalll amounts and great he had a wet nappy today, so keep it up. But with vomitting all milk and all foods going on for 24/-2 then 25/12 then 26/12 then 27/12 then 28/12. Tooo long losing essential fluids and electrolytes for young baby

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 28/12/2017 14:58

For god sake have you not taken him back to hospital yet? Almost every poster said it immediately this am and you still haven’t gone.
Yes babies can end up very very ill - so stop messing around and take him back to the hospital - not the gp - they need to assess him properly and the gp won’t have half the tools too.

Tika77 · 28/12/2017 15:18

Don't give him carrots and the like please, just plain simple carbs. Toast without butter, rice cake etc.

Psychobabble123 · 28/12/2017 18:43

I hope he's been seen and is on the mend OP

Wineasaurous · 28/12/2017 22:12

@Rainbowsandflowers78 yes I took him at 11am. How exactly was I messing around? Should I have stopped seeing to my child to update you? Or does it only count when it's posted on here? Honestly how bloody rude do you want to be?!

MistyMinge · 28/12/2017 22:16

How is he doing? What did they say?

Rainbowsandflowers78 · 28/12/2017 22:19

Not rude - just concerned.
You were posting at 10.30 that you hadn’t taken him yet even thought people had been saying for hours to take him.
My child nearly died - it’s only because I went, very fast, to a and e that they didn’t. Hence why I was concerned you weren’t trusting your instinct enough about going back, fast.
You’ve probably had a long, shitty day in a and e so I’m going to forgive you snapping at me! As I really do understand quite how awful it is to be concerned about your sick child and not know what to do. Please see my comments are alarm/concern not rudeness and in that context.
Mostly importantly - I hope your lo is ok.

Wineasaurous · 28/12/2017 22:20

He has an ear infection, an eye infection, gastroenteritis, and a cold with a chesty cough. All at once.
He was screaming the place down which I think helped prove my point.
He's asleep (finally) but not a happy bunny. I'm hoping we'll see the effects of the medicines tomorrow and he'll be on the mend. Have to keep syring feeding him water every 15 minutes until he starts drinking normally.
I'm exhausted, so is DH. So is DS!

Poor thing. Hope the antibiotics work soon and you can get some sleep soon.

Wineasaurous · 28/12/2017 22:22

@Rainbowsandflowers78 an hour and a bit, not hours. I posted the thread just after 9. It certainly has been a very long shitty day.

My DS has been similar to this since Xmas day (vomit Just pumping out of him right in the middle of xmas dinner. Never did get to eat mine!!) and has been on and off again with diarrhoea. But not been lethargic or sleepy and is wetting nappies. I did same as you rang 111 and they said as he's happy alert and wetting nappies they weren't concerned and just get little and often into him as much as i can. However, if your LO is a bit sleepy and deterioration I would Defo go back somewhere and ask to be seen/checks over. I thought (but could be wrong) they can't send away a small child/baby

user9217 · 28/12/2017 23:01

Sorry @Wineasaurous just seen that you have an answer now. Poor DS hope he feels better soon 💙💙

MaverickSnoopy · 29/12/2017 09:58

Poor little boy. I hope the medicine helps and he feels better soon. Lots of cuddles all round.

Wineasaurous · 29/12/2017 19:40

He still hasn't eaten anything and I don't know what to do. No one is concerned about this other than my DH and I. All the drs are saying is make sure he drinks... he hasn't eaten since Xmas eve!

Sparklesdontshine · 29/12/2017 19:44

Will he take full fat milk? That is worrying, that’s a long time for a baby to go without food Sad

Wineasaurous · 29/12/2017 19:53

No he just brings it all back up. I've tried everything I can think of, including back to baby purée, dry toast, milk, even tried offering him boob but it's been about 3 months since we stopped that so I hardly have any milk and I think he's forgotten how to take it

OP posts:
Bollooooooocks · 29/12/2017 20:17

What about a spoon of butter for him to lick?

Bollooooooocks · 29/12/2017 20:18

Or maybe a spoon of coconut oil which is more tasty and as fattening , do you have any?

Clankboing · 29/12/2017 20:26

Milk is always brought up with illness. When my son used to get tonsilitis, it was the first clue that he had it.

dancemom · 29/12/2017 20:27

An ice lolly?

BusterGonad · 29/12/2017 20:32

I know sugary drinks are bad but I'd try flat lemonade!

Mumguiltisabitch · 29/12/2017 20:35

When my DS was ill and keeping nothing down I kept topping him up with water after bringing him to the GP and on their advice. He was eventually admitted to Paeds as he deteriorated and they said that that was the wrong advice?! That the water was diluting the essential salts and electrolytes in his wee body and that it should have been dioralyte or Lucozade sport ideally but anything was better than water. If I'd kept on doing what I'd being told he would have went into hyponatraemia which is abnormally low levels of sodium in his bloodstream. Thankfully I followed my instinct. I'm not saying you should start giving your DS these things OP but don't be assured just because he is taking water and having wet nappies. Hoping he gets well soon .

Crazylou · 29/12/2017 21:08

I would definitely get pediatricians to look over him again as water alone won't be doing him any good I've been there, also had to get stronger antibiotics as amoxicillin wasn't helping my toddler who had 3 infections at once it took him weeks to try pick up a bit

Pandoraphile · 29/12/2017 21:09

I'd definitely be taking him to ooh. The professionals may be ok with the idea of a baby going without food but if it's out of the norm for him then keep pressing them.
