If your child had molluscum

How long did it take to go away? 15 month old dd has had molluscum for a couple of months and I'm just wondering how long she's likely to have it for. NHS website says it could be anything up to 2 years but I'm hoping that's a worse-case scenario and it'll be gone much sooner!

DD had molluscum. Was about 7 years ago so can't remember exactly but think it took about 6-8 months to go
.

Phillipa12 · 03/09/2017 20:26

Nephew has it, hes had it about 6 months so far and its not clearing yet. A couple of children i nannied for also had it and it took about 13 months to go with them.

angularmerkel · 03/09/2017 20:27

My ds had them for about 3 months, just a few in a tiny patch. Then suddenly they started to appear elsewhere so I googled and found Zymaderm by a company called naturopathix. I got it from Amazon and sorted a tiny bit on each spot and they literally started to get better overnight. They had all gone down by about a fortnight and the slowly disappeared over about 3-4 weeks. I would definitely recommend it. People (including NHS direct) will tell you they're untreatable and to just leave them alone and they'll eventually disappear but this worked brilliantly for my ds.

Vinorosso74 · 03/09/2017 20:27

DD had it and it took 18 months.

Ridingthegravytrain · 03/09/2017 20:29

About 15 months. I ended up using zymaderm too

ApuskiDoo · 03/09/2017 20:31

Ages and then I used poxiderm and it was gone in a week.

FriendlyGhost · 03/09/2017 20:32

My dd had them for about 9 months. They showed no sign of going until I got some cream from a health shop and they went quickly after that. No idea what was in it or if it was just coincidence though.

NoCapes · 03/09/2017 20:34

DD had it for about 2 months before I started using aloe Vera gel on it, that cleared it within a week or two
And hers was really bad she was covered head to toe bless her

MrsBobtonTrent · 03/09/2017 20:38

DS had it for a few months, then GP pierced a couple with a sterile needle and they disappeared within days. Apparently better to scratch them generally (rather than not scratching like chicken pox etc).

Auntiedahlia · 03/09/2017 20:42

One of mine had them for about 3 months. She picked at them mercilessly and they disappeared.

Linnet · 03/09/2017 20:56

My dd had them, probably for about a year maybe a little bit longer. They eventually went when one got knocked and became infected. She got antibiotics for that then they all started to disappear. Now she just has a few pock marks where they were.

NC4now · 03/09/2017 20:58

It was weird. He had it for a month or so, then he caught chickenpox which basically kicked molloscum's ass.
When the spots faded the molloscum went with them.

RandomMess · 03/09/2017 21:01

It goes unnoticed by the immune system usually until it gets infected. We got rid by letting her scratch them tbh!

ChilliMum · 03/09/2017 21:02

Ds had them for about 8 months. 1 got all red and looked as though it might be infected and then a couple of days later they had all cleared up.

From what I read at the time you just have to wait for the body to recognise the infection and fight it so like other people have mentioned scratching or picking at them might help to kick the immune system into action.

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 03/09/2017 21:05

My little niece has had it over a year and she's almost three. They are painful sometimes right at the back of her knee and sometimes bleed but docs won't do anything. She also cries in pain bless her. They are pretty long and just rub because of where they are.

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 03/09/2017 21:07

Got aloe Vera gel in fridge will give it to my sister to try thank to who suggested that

bringonyourwreckingball · 03/09/2017 21:08

In all honesty I think it was a couple of years for dd2. But all gone now and very little after effect. It's grim at the time but you just have to ride it out

Marv1nGay3 · 03/09/2017 21:09

Both my DD's had it for about 18 months each. Just before it went completely it got much worse and the spots got really yellow and angry looking. Diluted lemon myrtle oil helped to get rid of it, but it doesn't work for everyone.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/09/2017 21:09

About 13 months to clear up totally, but once it started to go, it was very quick

eyesonme · 03/09/2017 21:10

My ds has had it for about 6 months, still not clearing up.
Really missing our baths together

Shesaysso · 03/09/2017 21:12

2.5 years ☹️☹️

Starlight2345 · 03/09/2017 21:17

My Ds had them for about 12 months

NearlyFree17 · 03/09/2017 21:18

DD got a few of them. Following internet advice, I pricked them with a sterile needle and squeezed out the contents. I think I may have put on antiseptic cream afterwards.
They scabbed over and disappeared in a couple of weeks.

superram · 03/09/2017 21:18

About 8 months but only after an infection from knocking the top off.

wiltingfast · 03/09/2017 21:20

My dd has them 8 m now and no sign at all of them clearing up.

Going to try some otc I think.
