If your child had molluscum

How long did it take to go away? 15 month old dd has had molluscum for a couple of months and I'm just wondering how long she's likely to have it for. NHS website says it could be anything up to 2 years but I'm hoping that's a worse-case scenario and it'll be gone much sooner!

Ds2 had them when he was about 12. They lasted for a good 18 months and only disappeared after one bit went a bit manky and his immune system finally copped on to them being there!

Dd got it at under 1yo. She definetly still had it starting preschool at 3, but it was gone by the time she went back for her second year there (3y 10m). It got to a point where every night we bathed her there was one gone. So she had them a few years but when they did start to go, they went very quickly.

We are about 18 months in - to be honest we were ignoring them as I know they eventually go away but they started to get really really bad a few months ago.
They are all over the back of his legs and he catches them on chairs etc all the time.
We shower his legs every night, wipe the spots with tea tree oil and he wears clean pj's and clean trousers/shorts everyday day/night.
They are slowly getting better - although DH popped a massive one earlier - there was a brief scream and then I think DS was so interested in the contents he cheered up straight away!

It was about 18 months.

Not 100% now, but I think dd1 had it for over a year. Maybe 15 - 18months? No signs once it went though, whcih it does in the end.

Probably about 2 years and that was in spite of having them treated (scraped off) 3 times.

WeAllHaveWings · 03/09/2017 23:01

Ds had them last year and it took 10 months. His friend has recently got it and I'm dreading him getting them again.

I was told I had this in my early 30s. It was mostly on my shoulders, shoulder blades, upper arms and a bit on my back. I don't know where I got it from but I did have a back massage when I went on honeymoon so I think maybe it was from that. The spots were often pus filled (gross I know) with a dimple in the centre. The affected skin felt waxy. Unfortunately I had this for a good few years before it went completely (about 3?)

Lostfairydust · 03/09/2017 23:13

He had them for about a year - 18months... I popped them all in the end as they became 'ripe'. That only happened after he pulled one on his eyelid off the day before he was due to have it assessed for removal as it was growing... he has ASD and doesn't like hospitals...

Probably took almost a year for my daughters to go. They were sparse for ages then she got to picking them as she was and they spread but after that they seems to clear all of a sudden.

IamDBCooper · 04/09/2017 00:11

Baby got them at 6 months and they were gone by 14 months. We'd been pricking them with a sterile needle and they were going then he got really bad chicken pox and it seemed to finish them off.

Eldest has had it about a year now but he is a wimp and won't let me near them with the needle or any cream etc. Sometimes he scratches them and they clear up. They are on his inner thighs and he is only 5 so he isn't over bothered by them.

iMatter · 04/09/2017 08:34

Ds2 had it for almost 3 years. He still has the little holes/scars on his back.

We tried everything and then it went of its own accord.

OnlyHereForTheFeminists · 04/09/2017 14:22

Thanks everyone. I'd been keeping them covered to stop her scratching but I might try letting her pick at them a bit and see if it helps!

Try molludab. Brilliant stuff.

ReinettePompadour · 08/09/2017 20:47

DS had them for around 3 years but he has eczema which makes it difficult for his immune system to fight them. They went eventually after getting some really badly infected ones. He hasn't had any for years so I'm hoping his immunity is now up to scratch.

Wishiwasonholiday1 · 16/09/2017 23:21

My DS had it for 12ish months. I used colloidal silver spray to get rid of it. I put it on twice a day and it went within 2 weeks. You can buy it from health food shops or Amazon.
