Fainting and seizures in 7 year old

Hi all.

In Nov 15 dd collapsed. I thought she had fainted although she wasn't pale/clammy. It took her a few minutes to fully come round and recover. Took her to GP.

In August 16 she collapsed again, this time she was fitting for around 10 seconds and conscious throughout. She complained of a pain in her head before collapsing. Took her to GP again, referred for bloods and ECG. All came back normal except urea was high on bloods - 8.4. Dr wrote to GP saying it was just fainting.

Last week dd collapsed again, same as the last episode, sharp head pain just before but the fitting was more severe and it took around 15 minutes for her to recover. Called 111 who sent an ambulance and was seen in a&e. All her observations were normal, then when she had her bloods taken she fainted soon after. Classic pale, grey, sweaty faint followed by another seizure.

Bloods came back high for urea again, so she has been referred for repeat bloods, an EEG and kidney ultrasound.

Dd drinks ok so I don't think she is dehydrated, but have been keeping an eye on her fluids since. Does anybody have any advice/experience/knowledge of these symptoms as I am very worried about her.

Thanks

Thanks for replying.

Out - she hasn't had an MRI or CT, only an EEG so far. Saw a locum gp last week and asked about a CT but he said the consultant will order one if it's needed. I am going to push for one, there is something going on and I don't feel like it is being investigated thoroughly enough at the minute.

Keep a running history of who you speak to, just because as time goes on it might be helpful. If your daughter did a pain diary, ranking the pain on a zero pain to ten (worse imaginable) might help the discussion with the specialist.

A deep faint can look like a seizure. Dh was told by a neurologist as he's a deep, crazy fainter. Grin

30daysonly · 27/06/2017 19:06

Not much of an update but got the results of the EEG today - abnormal. They can't rule epilepsy in or out. Told the Dr about the headaches and he's ordered a MRI so more waiting now Sad

Flowers I'm glad you're getting somewhere but i know how awful the waiting andcwanting answers is. Have you got a date for the MRI?

I found that most things hospital can be speeded up with the help of a sympathetic consultant's Secretary. We knocked 2 months off ds2's neurosurgeon/ scan /neurosurgeon cycle by asking to be kept in mind for cancellations.

30daysonly · 28/06/2017 17:18

Thanks Barbarian. Our trust either send an appointment letter through or a letter with a password and you phone and book an appointment yourself. If I haven't received the latter by friday I will track down the secretary and give them a call.

I'm feeling pretty shit today, already sick of every man and his dog telling me everything will be ok even though I know they mean well. I've been through this all before - dd was very prem so very poorly then and had another serious illness 3 years ago so I know the drill. This time I have a bad gut feeling that everything is NOT ok and I'm having to listen to everyone tell me it is.

Sorry for the rant, needed to vent that somewhere!!

OP posts:
BarbarianMum · 28/06/2017 21:52

Rant away. I know what you mean about people telling you "it'll all be fine". They mean well but really they're totally belittling worries. Sometimes you just want to be listened to and taken seriously.

Flowers Wine Cake Gin - take your pick, it's on me.

BarbarianMum · 28/06/2017 21:53

Oh ffs. Sorry.

...they are totally belittling your worries.

30daysonly · 28/06/2017 22:11

That's exactly it. When I talk about the seizires, severe daily headaches and tiredness, the EEG showing abnormalities in the same area as the headaches etc... and they go 'oh I'm sure it's nothing to worry about' Oh I'll cancel the MRI then Linda if you say it's nothing!

And breathe Grin

And I'll take the Flowers and Cake today and the Gin Friday.. cheers!

I remember dh shouting "they don't send you to the neurosurgeon when it's nothing mum" over Sunday lunch. My MiL is generally lovely. My dh never shouts.

Be kind to yourself.

flumpybear · 28/06/2017 22:23

I'd be asking for a referral to hospital .... can't be too careful and not a one off either

30daysonly · 28/06/2017 22:23

I totally get that..My dad informed me earlier that brains heal themselves so she won't need medication.

It's nearly Friday right?

I'm derailing my own thread here but I've just remembered another gem. Dd was born 3 months early in fairly dramatic style.. someone bought her a 'been inside for 9 months' babygro.

Sorry I was naughty and didn't read the whole thread - hope all goes wellGin

familyiswhatmatters · 29/06/2017 20:33

Did you have appointment yet ??

Out2pasture · 30/06/2017 01:13

my husband developed a seizure disorder at 30 when a small vein burst (sort of like a small aneurysm)
there were several medications to try and combinations of, none of which caused him any side effect. for him he had poor control of the seizures.
after several years he was referred to neurosurgery, which was very easy on him and totally successful (they removed a small piece of dead tissue that was causing all the problem)
positive thoughts for your daughter.

30daysonly · 04/07/2017 17:33

furryelephant · 09/07/2017 20:09

How was the MRI @30daysonly ? Hope everything went okay Flowers

30daysonly · 09/07/2017 20:28

Hi furry.

It went ok although she was scared at first.

It also took longer than they expected, they kept saying over the tannoy they wanted to do more minutes - not sure what to read into that if anything!

OP posts:
furryelephant · 09/07/2017 20:38

Ah bless her, they are horrible things Sad
Sometimes the images just don't come out quite right so they have to redo them, the tiniest movement can mean they have to redo sections Smilewhen do you get the results?

TheGhostOfBarryFairbrother · 10/07/2017 11:22

You poor things. Fingers crossed that they get to the bottom of thing's soon. In the meantime have a cheeky Monday Wine

30daysonly · 11/07/2017 17:40

Thanks Ghost Wine

I'm not sure furry they didn't give me a timeframe. The consultant who ordered the MRI said he would get the results and refer her on if needed and call me if needed.

I am resisting the urge to call the gp daily and ask if the results are in the system
