Stork bite birth mark on back of the neck

babynelly2010 · 08/05/2017 18:00

My 3 week old dd seem to have one on her neck. I read that on the neck they may not fade. Anyone's dc had one on the neck and did it fade, by when or did it stay?

OP posts:

my DS had a few 'cherries' on the back of his neck and still has them - he's 30 now but i guess everyone is different.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 08/05/2017 18:04

My gf had one. .
A few of my ds's also have the same one. .

NotSoEagerBeaver · 08/05/2017 18:06

My ds had them on the back of his neck and eyelids at birth. The ones on his eyelids faded by the time he was 3, and the one on his neck is still there but mostly hidden in the bottom of his hairline.

stinky81 · 08/05/2017 18:07

Apparently I have one. Never seen it as it only flairs up when I'm hot from exercise or whatever.
I'm 29, and it's never gone completely to my knowledge. People do point it out very occasionally thinking it's an allergic reaction, but I can't say it's ever had any kind of effect on my life. I think they tend to be quite pale - more a bit pink than red.
Which is a long winded way of saying, don't stress OP. If I'm anything to go by DC will not care, even if it doesn't fade Smile

Should say, mine is also on the back of my neck. I have long hair which covers it but no issues with wearing it tied up at all.

Whatwankeryisthis · 08/05/2017 18:15

My daughter was born with one on her forehead and another on the back of her neck.
She's 12 now and the one on the forehead had faded almost completely over the years. The one in her neck is still quite visable but has faded a lot from birth and is into her hairline so you have to really look for it.
I remember thinking they made her really special and unique as a baby and as birthmarks go, a stork mark is usually very "mild."
I won't even tell you where I have a horrible birthmark!!! Blush I'm sure it makes me special and unique though GrinGrin

DS had one. I can't remember when it faded, but it was certainly by his first birthday.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 08/05/2017 18:19

DD has a forehead one and a back of the neck. You can't see either day to day unless she's upset, angry or has been running. It's a bit like having flushed cheeks and it goes away just as fast.

I quite like getting a peek at them... it's a wee reminder of when she was a baby and nobody really knows that they're there unless they know her very well.

TheLongRains · 08/05/2017 18:20

My two year old still has hers. Gets very red indeed when she's angry or crying! I think it's cute. Part of me wants her to grow some hair so she looks more like a two year old (rather than an oversized baby!), but I will miss seeing her birth mark - it's part of her :)

CoolioAndTheGang · 08/05/2017 18:22

Both dc's had strawberry/dark pink marks when born. They faded and are light beige now.

welshweasel · 08/05/2017 18:26

My DS had a big one on his forehead and eyelid, both of which faded to almost nothing by 1. He has ones on the nape of his neck that are still as florid as when he was born, ones on the neck often don't disappear but usually end up beneath hair.

skyzumarubble · 08/05/2017 18:31

Dts have the neck Ines - they're still there now at 6 but you can't really see them because of the hair. One of them had strawberry Nevis marks two which are now flat and have just a tiny bit of pigment.

Suitcasemum · 08/05/2017 18:34

Dd has one; I love it! She's 6 now and mostly her hair covers it; but love seeing it as it reminds me of her baby years; don't think she's aware it's there other than me going all testy eyes at it :-)

GnatsChuff · 08/05/2017 18:37

Both DH and my DS have them. They are only visible when their hair is cut really short at the back.

OnlyEatsToast · 08/05/2017 18:39

DS was born with one on the back of his neck. It faded quite quickly. He's almost 4 now and can barely see it

anon1987 · 08/05/2017 18:40

Iv got it and 2/3 of my daughters have it. Mine has faded a little bit it's never bothered me.

MrsChopper · 08/05/2017 18:42

DS has one on his neck, it has not really faded. He had one on his forehead, you can still see it a little. It stands out more when his face goes red like when he is straining. He is 9m old.

Farahilda · 08/05/2017 18:42

One of my Dc had one, and it had faded away, never to reappear, probably by their first birthday (though I don't remember exactly)

runningtogetskinny · 08/05/2017 21:07

My dd had one on her eyelid and just under her nose, and one on the back of her neck under her hairline. The eyelid and nose faded by the time she was about 2 but sometimes still colour if she's been crying or is hot (she's 19 now) the one under her hair can't be seen but I sometimes have a look at it for nostalgia Smile

Roomba · 08/05/2017 21:20

Both my DM's had them on their foreheads and on the nape of their necks. They faded quickly, DS1's only showed when he was screaming angrily until he was about one. DS2's also faded quickly but showed a bit when he was hot or crying until he was about two?

Roomba · 08/05/2017 21:22

Oh DS2 also has a dark birthmark on his leg, which I was told would fade away. He's almost five and it's just as dark and has grown with him , so I guess those ones are very different.

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2017 21:24

Bizzarely I have one and my daughter also has one on the nape of her neck, both the same shape and in the same location on our necks. Neither hers or mine has faded, I'm 47 she's -9.

Bluntness100 · 08/05/2017 21:25

T9!

QuackDuckQuack · 08/05/2017 21:26

My 6 year old still has hers on her neck - you can only see it if you are routing around in her hair for nits.

bigredboat · 08/05/2017 21:28

Dd has one, its faded and hidden in her hairline but not gone yet (she is 2).
