I have moved this to child health board as I don't think aibu is appropriate anymore.
What began as a quick question has become 2 now 3

Bloody hell that is fantastic news! What a relief!!!

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/04/2016 05:48

Hurray for no more poo and a night in your own beds! Brilliant! God your original hospital was shite, though. Poor littlest Mae.

FX Leicester diagnose her quickly now! When do you go back?

TheDailyWail · 19/04/2016 06:04

Wonderful!

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 19/04/2016 06:15

That's BRILLIANT!!!! What a totally unexpected and fantastic news!!

Now fingers crossed for a quick diagnosis.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay!!

Badders123 · 19/04/2016 06:45

Fab news
Hope it all goes well for dd from now on X

Chimchar · 19/04/2016 06:46

Fantastic! Hooray!
Take some time out now to unwind and regain some resilience.

Will be thinking about you and littlemae. Fingers crossed for an easy, straightforward diagnosis which is nothing too serious. x

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/04/2016 07:39

Result!

But what a shame you had to go to Leicester to find out.

GreenMarkerPen · 19/04/2016 07:46

I am glad to see that. hopefully you have a good relaxing day at home.

for you next list to ask the consultant:

  • what can we do to prevent an impaction like this
  • referral to play therapist (private an option?)
  • referral to a dietician (private?)

all the best!

Goingtobeawesome · 19/04/2016 07:49

I'm so embarrassed. I had rather wet eyes when I read your update.

How worrying that the other doctors got things so wrong. Surely that needs flagging?

Mysillydog · 19/04/2016 07:55

Lurker wishing you luck in two weeks time. At least you are now in the system at Leicester. It's a shame they don't have a more child friendly waiting area but if the doctors understand her condition then it's the hospital to be seen at :-)

Purplebluebird · 19/04/2016 08:02

Ahh finally! So happy for you :) I hope the next two weeks go well, and that the tests will come up with something treatable! xxx

I don't think you need a referral to a dietician IMHO. Constipation as severe as this is never caused by diet and can never be resolved by dietary changes either.

What needs investigating is her bowel function. Is it "just" sluggish (unlikely) or is there a defect such as Hirschsprung's?

Then there's her small size and low weight. Need to check for allergies/intolerances that affect gut function and cause failure to thrive (coeliac/CMPI).

If neither of these things, what else could it be? Constipation this severe can't possibly be idiopathic.

IceBeing · 19/04/2016 09:45

If the elation I and others unconnected to you on this thread are feeling is anything to go by, you must be ecstatic! But also very very tired I would imagine.

I am so sorry your DD was on the medication longer than necessary though. Definitely lots of learning needed at your original hospital.

I hope the future diagnostic process goes well and that your DD gets over this trauma well. Flowers

Clarkgriswoldforever · 19/04/2016 10:33

So pleased to read the thread and see that things are getting better. You must be so relieved. I hope you are all having a good restSmile

SoConfused15 · 19/04/2016 10:33

Thank goodness. I know hospitals don't want to give unnecessary X Rays but in this case what a shame she had the extra unnecessary treatment. Hope you all got a good nights sleep and that she is now under the care of a specialist consultant who will get a diagnosis and appropriate treatment as soon as possible. When things are better perhaps you would consider making a formal complaint about the GP and initial consultant you saw months ago (who got her age wrong) as maybe others could avoid being put through the ordeal that you have had.

ScrambledSmegs · 19/04/2016 11:28

That's a wonderful update, I'm so relieved for your little DD and for you.

I hope you get more answers in a couple of weeks and that she receives appropriate long-term care. Flowers

littlemaemae · 19/04/2016 11:59

Thank you everyone for the lovely messages.
We are all very happy to be home. We couldn't have done any longer in hospital, we all had zero patience left.

As soon as I got into bed, my body felt like a dead weight. I still feel like it today. Feeling very overwhelmed as we are suddenly back to life at 100mph.

DD slept all night and is SO happy to have her toys back and she had me running around the park with her early this morning. She needs to built her stamina back up.
She is scared if an adult or child comes anywhere near her, but I expect that and will give her lots of tlc until she is feeling more confident.

It is a shame we didn't have an X-ray at our local hospital first.
And I do think it was quite a f- up
On their part, and I will be speaking to pals when I have the energy to go through it all with them.
but they were kind and well meaning on the whole.

They are saying no laxative for a few days and she should be pooing in a normal way everyday. I can't see that happening.
We can go into clinic and be seen sooner if need be.
But a few weeks without taking her back sounds very appealing.

I will take the time to have a proper read through and thank you all this evening maybe if I have the energy.

I would never been able to get her the help she needed and to be under the specialist without the support on the threads and I appreciate it more than you could ever know Thanks

They are saying no laxative for a few days and she should be pooing in a normal way everyday.

Confused but if I'm remembering rightly, she has never done that. Why would they suddenly expect her to do something she's never done?

It's very human not to want to raise holy hell with people who have been pleasant to us, but the fact remains that they were giving you incorrect medical advice that made your DD feel awful for no damn reason at all. You can upbraid them for that while still appreciating their manners.

Headofthehive55 · 19/04/2016 12:11

vague I'm afraid I disagree with you. A dietician was indeed helpful for us, and diet does affect the effectiveness if the medicines we administer. It doesn't stop the constipation but does make it less severe. It all helps! If she is found to be into, earnt if certain foods, again very helpful.

Headofthehive55 · 19/04/2016 12:13

Intolerant of

Headofthehive55 · 19/04/2016 12:18

Certainly we've overdone it in the laxatives before now and not had solids passed, it's a difficult judgement call. The amounts needed vary so much!

But glad to hear she has had a good night.

differentnameforthis · 19/04/2016 12:20

Have followed all the threads op, and am delurking to say that I am pleased you are home, and your dd is better. Flowers

kelda · 19/04/2016 12:43

I'm glad she's turned a corner. I hope she will continue to get expert follow up to prevent this happening again. Looking forward to the flat tummy photo!

VagueIdeas · 19/04/2016 12:47

I take your point hive. Diet can be part of the solution going forward but I don't think it's the priority right now.
