My child smells!

Apologies - have NO idea where this belongs. My 2yo smells awful, when I go in her room in the morning I have to hold my breath. It smells like someone who hasn't washed in a very long time, she does wear a nappy overnight but that isn't the cause, she has a bath most evenings and we brush her teeth, I cannot pinpoint where the smell is coming from, it's not the room either as the smell goes throughout the day and I wash the sheets etc. She hasn't always had this problem. Any advice?! She smells less throughout the morning, it does seem to be overnight.

Any chance she has a foreign body up her nose?

BerniceB · 20/09/2015 17:43

The last couple of threads like this it turned out that the child had stuck something in their nose or ear and the smell was said item decomposing.

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/09/2015 17:43

are you sure she's not got food stash somewhere? or a teddy that git damp and now smells

Fluffyemenent · 20/09/2015 17:44

Something up nose or in ear!

SmashleyHop · 20/09/2015 17:45

I'd check nose or ears for something inside first.

AccioGin · 20/09/2015 17:45

Was coming on to echo something in nose or ear.... Last thread was a sticker up the nose I think?!

rainbowstardrops · 20/09/2015 17:46

Yep, I'm another for something up her nose! There was a thread recently and it turned out the little lad had shoved a sticker up there?!
Might be worth considering

Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 17:47

The smell doesnt seem to be coming from her face as I also read a recent thread about the playdoh up the nose! And the George pig toy she sleeps with seems not to smell. I'm totally confused, the smell really is bad and has been like it for about three weeks

Take her to the GP.

Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 17:56

But what do I say? My child smells in the morning? Could it be illness? She appears absolutely fine otherwise and currently smells ok, it really is just first thing, unless I get used to it

Have other people mentioned that she smells? Perhaps she's not smelling less throughout the day but you are becoming nose blind to it when you are around her for a while?

Every1KnowsJeffHesUsuallyACunt · 20/09/2015 17:58

Tonsil stones?

Kraggle · 20/09/2015 18:02

Is she getting hot at night and it's the warm sweaty smell that hits you in the morning? By sweat I mean not BO obviously but just a funky mustiness?

Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 18:17

She could be getting hot at night but she only sleeps in a nappy and the smell is a lot stronger than most adults would develop in one night, it does smell more like a general unwashed smell rather than anything rotten. What are tonsil stones? She does get quite 'breathy' so I suppose it could be that? She sleeps in a fairly large room though often with the window open a crack so I'm surprised at whatever it is filling the room to the extent it does
Off to google tonsil stones

Have you checked under her bed etc or her actual mattress?? I always checked my dd's mattress when she was that age because as much as mattress protectors are good it might have moved and allowed seepage that you may not have noticed... Also, if its not that give the mattress a turn over anyway because of sweating and other issues...

Could she have something stuck in between her teeth at all as well x

Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 20:49

I sniffed all orifices before bath ( luckily she's only two) and checked inside her mouth with a torch, nothing in the room smells at all, we're going to check the smell before we go to bed and see where it's coming from. I'm stumped

Can you move her cot/ bed for 1 night into another room and see if she / or the room smells in the morning so you can eliminate where it doesn't come from???

Jo4040 · 20/09/2015 20:57

Blatent placemarkingGrin

I was all over the 'Stuck up the nose thread'

That mean, mean horrible Doctor...

fastdaytears · 20/09/2015 21:01

Another one of these! I'm going for Blu Tac in the ear I think.

I think by the time it gets to stinky stage whatever's in the orifice has got quite gunked up so isn't immediately obvious when you look in.

Micah · 20/09/2015 21:01

Does she smell? Or just her room?

Smell can indicate illness- diabetes, some metabolic diseases all have classic smells.

So I think the doc is a good idea.

WhoTheFIsJeff · 20/09/2015 21:13

Get the GP to check in her ears and nose. If it's something rotting it will smell.

Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 22:08

She is staying with MIL tomorrow night so will ask her to give her a sniff in the morning (she'll know immediately) and then make appointment although I'm absolutely sure it can't be something she's put in anywhere, although in the interests of disclosing all information she is a huge playdoh fan. She really doesn't smell in the day though so it can't be that can it?

OP posts:
Whatamuckingfuddle · 20/09/2015 22:09

It's her that smells, the room improves in smell when she leaves

OP posts:
Micah · 20/09/2015 22:15

Could it be her wee? If you change her more often during the day, or she drinks in the day, that could be why it's worse at night.

GP, with a urine sample if you can :)

fastdaytears · 20/09/2015 22:17

Oh and I think the other suggestion that is always made on these threads is that you should probably POAS particularly if your MIL can't smell anything tomorrow!
