My child smells!

Apologies - have NO idea where this belongs. My 2yo smells awful, when I go in her room in the morning I have to hold my breath. It smells like someone who hasn't washed in a very long time, she does wear a nappy overnight but that isn't the cause, she has a bath most evenings and we brush her teeth, I cannot pinpoint where the smell is coming from, it's not the room either as the smell goes throughout the day and I wash the sheets etc. She hasn't always had this problem. Any advice?! She smells less throughout the morning, it does seem to be overnight.

I'd say something is up her nose. I was right on the last thread.

I'm an expert in this x3 Hmm

I've just been up for a sniff, it was faint but I think it is the nappy, she is potty trained in the day so we wouldn't notice, it's really bad though, will send sample to gp tomorrow, I'm in a panic that we've been letting her have diluted orange juice and not diluted it enough and given her diabetes, she's got no other symptoms so I'm just being ridiculous aren't I?

In the nicest possible way, yes you are.

Sh could have an ear infection? My dd had one once, she wasn't partivularly grumpy but it stank

GoodtoBetter · 21/09/2015 08:29

When they become dry at night it's due to a hormonal thing that means the wee is more concentrated and so they don't need to wee as much and so hold on til morning. Maybe it's the beginning of that, maybe she's going to be dry at night quite soon but it really smells beacuse it's much more concentrated?

Unless you have an auroscope you won't be able to see in her ears or potentially up her nose. Equally it could be a urine infection so go to the GP.

I'm a nurse and have spent years with children having poked toys, food, whatever fits in various holes. Don't under estimate a toddler!

Just to throw another idea into the mix, could it be her feet? My dd used to have a terrible foot odour problem. It wasn't especially noticable during the day but her room stank, especially in the morning - just as you describe, which is what made me think about it.

I never got to the bottom of it and it went away eventually, after I went on and on at her to concentrate on washing and drying her feet every day, but for a time I felt quite bad for her as her room every morning contained the most awful smell.

It is definitely the nappy, we sent a sample into the gp but it didn't show anything, think we'll have to go in if I can get an appointment ever!

Try changing brand of nappy?
