Should I take Oliver to hospital?

Oliver is 6 weeks old tomorrow.
Since Wednesday he has been very unsettled, always crying, seems to be in pain when pooing, hasn't been drinking as much milk (ebm & formula) and when he does drink he vomits it all back up.
Today he seems very "lifeless".. Eyes rolling, not responding to sounds, etc..
Should I take him to a&e?

You phoned 111 with a "lifeless" 6 week old and was told you didn't need to see anyone.
Something not quite right with that.

Heather, Oliver is your child. He's the most precious thing you have. Why are you risking it?

a&e urgently. 111 advise a&e for a sore toe so god knows why they didn't suggest calling an ambulance

he sounds as if he could he allergic/intolerant to the milk tbh. that's not going to get any better he needs a prescription if that's teh case.

same if it's reflux so go. like yesterday

I agree, he's constipated because he's dehydrated.

How is his soft spot? Sunken means dehydrated.

Just het him to A&E, best for tiny baby.

Yes, please take him in. I took my DS to A&E when he was 12 weeks old and very poorly and the staff told me not to worry about wasting their time because they would always want to see a child of his age or younger of the parent was concerned.

A&E time-wasters are adults who have twisted their ankles or had too much to drink, not tiny infants! Good luck.

My friend is a paediatrician... She's just said that your advice from 111 is entirely wrong and you should complain.

You should also go straight to A&E...

I agree with PPs. For comparisons sake, GP told me to take 6 week old DD to a&e on two consecutive days, and she was feeding well. Doctors have a really low threshold for seeing >3 month babies.

I think the test is: will you care about something in a years time? You won't care if you take him in and it turns out to be nothing. You will if you don't and it's something serious.

Phoned 111 again. Just waiting on a nurse getting back to me now.
He's not constipated, just seems in pain when trying to poo

Take him in. 111 are having a nightmare at the moment, don't trust their advice - there has been countless threads in the last few days where A&E have said that 111 should have sent a patient in.

He needs to be seen now.

Don't wait for a phone call! Go to a&e! Bloody hell Hmm

I think it's the lifeless, eyes rolling etc. combined with vomiting and not drinking as much that's the worry. Is it difficult to take him in?

SylvanianCaliphate · 02/08/2015 15:32

Don't wait for the nurse, someone needs to physically see him.

Go to emergency. Things happen very fast to small babies so it's always better to be seen and safe.

This thread is odd. Why wouldn't you take the advice of everyone on here and go?

Stop with 111, get in the car NOW and go to hospital. Or phone an ambulance. I don't wish to sound impatient but use your common sense woman! This is a tiny baby we're talking about here.

Report
53rdAndBird · 02/08/2015 15:50

Please please just take him into hospital. 111 can take ages to call back, and he needs someone to actually see him.

WorrisomeHeart · 02/08/2015 15:54

How is he not constipated when you say he's 'in PAIN when TRYING to poo'??
Honestly, go to the hospital. They will not tell you off for being over cautious.

Heather this honestly sounds like your little boy needs to be seen by a doctor. Please please take him to A&E.
