ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:14

There are a few spots on face - closest way to describe is like measles ones (not raised like CP) just small pigmented dots (def not measles just trying to describe)

Cough that hasn't gone since bad bout of croup and snotty nose (lasting 8 weeks+ now)

And yellow oozy conjunctivitis started today Sad

How can I get him well??

Dr says chest is clear but going to take back tomorro, looking for any natural remedies or advice

How old.

I'm thinking allergies after 8 weeks tbh

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/03/2015 18:20

oops I just saw it in title Blush

gunky eyes, rash, congestion can signify an allergy or intolerance if it's not going away

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:20

2.5 year old.

I'm starting to think that might be it as does have excema but the excema hasn't flared despite his immune system fighting so much

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:23

The one thing that changed was I cut dairy out previously but didn't want him to be odd one out at playgroup so allowed him to have goats milk/cheese at snack time (only took it out to improve the excema) however I did ask them not to give it last week and he hasn't improved - maybe it takes longer than a week

Very interesting to hear gunky eyes could be allergy though

Have you tried giving an anti histamine?

start a food diary and record severity of symptoms.

is it too early fir half ever?

Gileswithachainsaw · 15/03/2015 18:24

Hay fever

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:27

No anti histamine - I avoid medication (unless prescribed) usually trying natural remedies first but may pop and get some piriton to try out the theory as we live where they frequently cut the grass etc

But he takes Manuka honey a tsp every day and I think that's meant to help hay fever? Although could it be the honey causing the problem??

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 15/03/2015 18:27

Not giving it to him might just Mean they didn't give him.actual milk or cheese.

did they cut out stuff which may Contain it as an ingredient which they may not have realised. cake or a biscuit or mini cheddar etc

I'd cut dairy again and see how it goes if you feel you can do that without him missing nutrients (if he's a fussy beater for instance)
if after a month it improves then go to Dr and ask to see a dietitian if you are unsure of how to go about it

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:31

I might go speak to them - it may well be happening tho I hope not.

He's gluten free but I made it clear it was just intolerance and he gets a poor tummy so I keep him off it rather than an allergy, they said they have another GF/dairy free child so they will feed them the same but thinking about it the other kid has had a runny nose every time iv seen him as long as mine. They said they give them special breadsticks from the freefrom aisle

See that could just be coincidence but then again maybe not....

Dd was a baby when she suffered with cmpi.

The really dry skin and the blocked sinuses and gunky eyes (swabbed but came back clear) alongside the nappies were the give aways.

What are his eyes like. google "allergic shiners"

dd always liked like shed been punched in the face as a baby I never made the link til years later and another thread and I realised shed got the eyes.

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 18:50

How interesting! He doesn't seem to have it as far as I can tell atm (crashed out asleep) but he DID have that round his eyes before the croup perhaps about 10-12 weeks ago, then I got it - seemingly worse than him and still have it! (I'm much lighter skinned than him though so might just show up on me more)

Poor thing he must feel rotten.

my suggestion would be to go completely dairy free again and give it a month or so. Make sure nursery are on board properly.

If it would be easier or less worry you could always ask what the snack plans are for the week and make/send in your own for him if they would allow that.

With regards to the cough, is it worse at night? Does asthma run in the family? asthma eczema and hay fever often cone together.

2 is around the time dd1 developed her asthma to. dismissed several times as viral induced wheezing.

dd2 had bronchiolitis as a baby in was told that it would leave her more prone to developing asthma, I don't k ow if it's the same for things like croup also but worth bearing in mind if the cough won't go away

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 19:51

Def worse at night and upon waking with the cough whereas the nose runs all day long

DH has bad hayfever and DS has the excema already, I had a dust allergy as a child... I did a Google and croup can be start of asthma

Poor love he's been napping since we got in and tempted just to let him sleep through now as he hasn't woken asking for dinner

OP posts:
ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 19:53

Think we'll definitely go back to strictly dairy free and see what happens

Maybe I need to invest in a better Hoover and do a spring clean in case he's got a dust allergy

It's all so frustrating x

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 15/03/2015 19:54

aw let him.sleep. can always have a snack and drink.of he wakes up later.

definitely see the dr about the cough. He might need an inhaler.

prop him up a bit of you can it's harder to breathe lying flat.

really hope he feels better soon Flowers

BikeRunSki · 15/03/2015 19:57

I think Honey only helps if it produced locally. DH (debilitating) hayfever has definitely ease a little since he started having local honey in the mornings. I guess the little bits of pollen help you build up an immunity.

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 20:02

Ah, maybe that's why it's not having the magical powers Holland and Barrett claimed it would have? Wink

We have a farm locally so il see if they have honey and try some far less expensive stuff hopefully Grin

OP posts:
shewolfroar · 15/03/2015 22:56

yes...find some local honey. I heard holland and b are owned by Monsanto. ...eeek

LittleRobots · 15/03/2015 23:01

We all had viral conjunctivitis (very sticky eyes on waking) with a cold recently. It was horrid, not like a bit of "red eye" I've had in the past. Took ages to clear but was ok after

No idea about the spots though.

ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 23:25

Shewolfroar Shock shocking!

OP posts:
ShootPeppaPig · 15/03/2015 23:35

The conjunctivitis is new, the runny nose has been for the last 8 weeks with the cough - does that mean it's probably not viral if the cold was already there?

Iv been wiping his eyes with some cotton wool soaked in cooled boiled water with salt dissolved in it - he's furious about that but I really want to avoid antibiotics if we can for it. I did get some drops from the chemist earlier though just in case it becomes too severe for that but will see how looks in the morning.

Have put him to bed with garlic water in his beaker (he always takes "juice" (water) to bed with him) and he's called out a few times "Juice tastes different juice mummy" Smile

I'm feeling guilty as Iv removed teddy (buildabear one with recorded voice inside from a relative) and I know he wants his teddy to cuddle but Iv no idea how to clean it without ruining the voice as can't put in wash - it would just reinfect him wouldn't it if the eye germs are bacterial and he's got them on teddy?

OP posts:
LittleRobots · 15/03/2015 23:53

I've taken mine to the doctor and just stated I'm not particularly after antibiotics unless they really think the child needs them. I'm sure they sometimes er on the side of abs if they think thats what the parent wants. So you could go knowing they will only prescribe them if really necessary.

Good luck. Hope he feels better soon!

ShootPeppaPig · 17/03/2015 17:41

Been to the GP - no antibiotics so happy about that but Sad she thinks he's developed asthma

We have ventolin (?) inhaler and spacer to try

Feeling a bit scared of giving it to him but I know I must

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 17/03/2015 18:12

I'm sorry to hear about that Sad

but now you have the medication to hopefully keep things under control. sweets, chocolate, tv etc do what you need to do in order to administer the inhaler until they learn to take it with no fuss.

I promise you that you are not the first or last person who has or who will have literally sat on their child to give them.the inhaler. I've had three nurses pin down dd.

so erase any guilt about that Flowers

let him play with the spacer giving it to teddies and stuff.

ShootPeppaPig · 17/03/2015 18:21

Oh Lordy I can see much wrestling happening tonight Grin
