Dd has Norovirus AGAIN (picked up at nursery)

We are currently going through DD being sick for the 5th time since she started nursery in September.

It's always the same, vomiting in the evening but no temperature or runny nappies. She is perfectly happy in herself but we are having to starve her and she isn't very big for her age which worries me.

Lasts for 3 days, she gets better then back to nursery (one day a week) and 2 days later she starts vomiting again.

Is this normal? Do you think it's an issue with hygiene? The nursery is fantastic, DS went there and was very happy then (9 years ago), it's still under the same ownership and they are really really careful with DDs lactose intolerance and other than this we have no complaints.

Should I at least mention it to them?

Am just at the end of my tether because it's 3 weeks in a row this time.

I'm having similar with ds and and nursery but its the runs not sickness. I am also wondering if its hygiene?

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:02

why are you starving her? There is no need to starve for a tummy bug. Could it be another intolerance? Have you kept a food diary to see if the vomiting coincides with something she has eaten.

It could be totally unrelated to the nursery environment.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:03

so does she only vomit in the evening and not during the day? What age is she?

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:05

Starving her because she will vomit whatever we give her.

She has had bananas each day she has been sick but has had bananas before and they have not had any effect on her.

DH gave her a few biscuits (rich tea) this morning and she brought those back and she brought a cup of tea back which she had this morning.

Yes usually.

This morning she brought back tea and she brought back biscuits abut an hour ago but before it has always just been in the evening or during the night.

That's not normal. It can't be a different virus each week. I'm not sure what it would be though

Your poor DD. They do pick up every bug going when they start nursery, but the good news is that by the time they start school they have the constitution of an ox.

Might not be norovirus though, is there anything she has to eat or drink differently at nursery to home? My ds has a reaction to cows milk, he had goats milk at home (as i had a different kind of cows milk intolerance as a child I didn't like weaning them onto cows milk), he had a tiny bit of cows milk at nursery in cereal every day and if he then had some to drink it would tip him over the edge and he would be sick maybe 24 hours later, would be sick 2 or 3 times then better. Always the weekend as it had built up during the week.

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:08

I take Lactofree milk into nursery for her and they are rally careful with what they give her with dairy in and always make separate food for her.

I think if you've had and recovered from Norovirus you won't get it again.

This sounds like something else.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:10

it doesnt sound like typical norovirus if she is only vomiting at a certain time of day and has no diarrhoea. I would keep a diary of what she is eating during the day and the liquids she is having

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 14/03/2015 18:10

Sorry I missed the part of your op where you mentioned lactose intolerance, maybe there is something else that disagrees with her or something with lactose hidden (not just in dairy often hidden in all sorts of things(

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:11

what age is she?

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:11

Blimey, what else do you think it could be?

We are starting to dread Thursday and Friday evenings.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:13

are you sure it is lactose intolerance and not cows milk protein intolerance? If it is cows milk protein that is the issue then lactofree milk would cause a reaction too as it has no lactose (the sugar) but still has the cows milk protein.

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:13

She is 16 months tomorrow.

I did wonder whether there was anything else she was allergic to.

OP posts:
mabelbabel · 14/03/2015 18:14

Take her to your gp on Monday. This is not normal.

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 14/03/2015 18:14

Maybe you can get allergy tests via gp? I don't know if they can find intolerances from that as opposed to allergies though

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:15

Could it be an on and off thing though.

She has had Lactofree milk since weaning in August but hasn't constantly been being sick. This is just the fifth episode of it happening but the third in a row over the last 3 weeks.

OP posts:
gaahhnonicknamesleft · 14/03/2015 18:19

My ds had cows milk at nursery from 10 months, was often poorly after that but we put it down to usual bugs. The obvious being sick started around 18 months, now he is 3 and if he has one swig of his brother's cows milk he us sick the next day

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:20

what milk was she having before the lactofree milk? If she was breastfed then it is highly unlikely she is lactose intolerant as breastmilk is full of lactose and she would have had issue before weaning.

It would be more likely be a issue with cows milk protein which would mean using a dairy free milk rather than lactose free as that would still have cows milk protein in it

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:22

She was breastfed.

I am lactose intolerant so when she was Poorly automatically thought that's what it was.

Should I nip and get some almond milk or something?

OP posts:
Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:24

I don't mind paying for tests if it stops all this.

Goats milk worth a try too
