Dd has Norovirus AGAIN (picked up at nursery)

We are currently going through DD being sick for the 5th time since she started nursery in September.

It's always the same, vomiting in the evening but no temperature or runny nappies. She is perfectly happy in herself but we are having to starve her and she isn't very big for her age which worries me.

Lasts for 3 days, she gets better then back to nursery (one day a week) and 2 days later she starts vomiting again.

Is this normal? Do you think it's an issue with hygiene? The nursery is fantastic, DS went there and was very happy then (9 years ago), it's still under the same ownership and they are really really careful with DDs lactose intolerance and other than this we have no complaints.

Should I at least mention it to them?

almond milk probably does not have enough calories/fat compared to other milks. Do you know if she is ok with soya as there is a Alprosoya 1+ milk that is fortified for that age group

goats milk counts as dairy too so I would try dairy free alternatives instead

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 18:39

Is that easily available.

I can pop to our big Tesco and see if they have it.

Trying to convince DH? He agreeing that she been sicker since not breastfeeding. But it's not a constant thing.

She seems to have lots of coughs and colds but we thought this was just starting nursery.

They give her more dairy in the form of lactose free stuff as I don't have dairy so tend not to give it to her that much.

She has lapel soya desserts.

Shall I try her on one of those now and see what happens. She is hungry but I though it better we don't feed her if she just going to vomit.

She might be too young to get any real answers about this yet, but just incase I'll tell you about DS1.

He was a happy, healthy child who would eat absolutely anything (literally) put in front of him. He got what we thought was a stomach bug when he was about 19 months old, but there was no temp, no runny nappies he was just vomiting and vomiting. He didn't eat, slept a lot and fluids came back up. It stopped after a few days.

It went on in this cycle for years. As he got older, around 4-5, he would vomit for about a week and end up in hospital because he was dehydrated and bringing up blood. He would be sick up to 40 times a day. This could be as regular as every 2-3 months, usually started on a Thursday night (no idea why) and if he got excited. We begged for tests, but were told it was a bug and dismissed as neurotic.

We moved to another area of the country when he was 7 and the consultant who saw him in hospital said it wasn't normal so sent us to a peadiatric gastroenterologist. He did a lot of tests on DS1 and came to the conclusion he had Cylical Vomiting Syndrome (he also had unrelated stomach ulcers). I sat in the room thinking he was fobbing us off, but when I read up about it everything fitted right back to when DS1 was a toddler. He was prescribed some really strong anti-sickness drugs and we were able to manage it much better.

As he entered his teenage years the vomiting got less but he got a lot of migraines, we knew this would happen. He is 20 now, he is very well and has a career in the army.

Like I say your DD might be too young to be diagnosed with Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome, but as she is vomiting so frequently it is something you could bare in mind.

Good luck.

The alprosoya 1+ is found with the other long life milks. I have found it in my local Morrisons and Tesco.

If I was you I would go to GP next week but cut out dairy in the meantime just in case. Hope she keeps something down tonight.

dementedpixie · 14/03/2015 18:53

I always start with toast after a sick bug

Madamecastafiore · 14/03/2015 19:42

Have bought the alpro soya 1 milk. DD excited about the giraffe. We are thinking of telling her it's giraffe milk.

Bought dairy free spread and yogurt too and will be off to the doctor on Monday.

Thank you everyone. Fingers crossed. She drinking it now and all soft furnishings removed!!

If this doesn't work will definitely look into the cyclical sickness (sounds bloody dreadful!!).

How is your DD now? And is she enjoying her giraffe milk?
