But am not sure what is wrong with her, it started Friday, she had a bit of a temperature, she fetched her blanket and pillow, lay on the sofa. I gave her some calpol for the temp, she fell asleep. Once she'd had a little sleep she was as perky as ever (think the calpol helped) then in the evening it happened again, and she was complaining of a tummy ache.

She had more calpol before bed, seemed fine saturday morning, but developed a temperature again, which I again gave calpol for, once again this kicked in and she perked up, playing etc. All fine. She had complained of a tummy ache again though.

Today, she has not got a temp as far as I can tell. She was up at 6am, but seems more tired than usual.

Anyone shed any light? I am planning to take her to GP if she is like this still tommorow morning.

has she had chicken pox?

MostlyMama · 27/04/2014 09:26

Yeah she had that a few weeks back.

Sounds like a little bug. The doctor can't do anything so I'd just leave this a few days and see how she goes

MostlyMama · 27/04/2014 09:32

Would it be worth just speaking to a doctor over the phone at the very least?

OP posts:
girliefriend · 27/04/2014 09:33

Sounds viral tbh.

I would worry if temp high and not coming down with calpol, unusually sleepy, listless etc however there prob is still not much a Dr could do unfort.

Just lots of rest, food, fluid and calpol!!

girliefriend · 27/04/2014 09:34

Sometimes it is worth speaking to a dr just to reassure you!!

Unless she gets much worse wouldn't bother with out of hours, leave it till tomos.

Bunbaker · 27/04/2014 09:36

You need to rule out a urine infection, so I wouldn't leave it a few days. I would get a sample and get an OOH appointment. Urine infections are nasty and can cause kidney damage.
(I am a veteran at this - DD was hospitalised twice as a result of UTIs)

Sorry to scare you, but it needs checking.

MostlyMama · 27/04/2014 10:27

How do I get a sample? She is still in nappies x

If temp is ok today I would expect her to pick up over course of day and would wait to see how she is later on.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/04/2014 10:32

But yes see OOH if ahe isnt picking up by later this afternoon

Theresadogonyourballs · 27/04/2014 10:39

Hi, have you had a look down her throat? I ask as DD(5) had exactly the same sort of symptoms a couple of weeks ago, fairly low level etc, but then her temperature suddenly shot up late one night, and then she developed a rash. We rushed her to A and E in a panic, and when the doctor looked down her throat it was raging tonsillitis, big pus-sy spots, the works. We had no idea, she hadn't said a word about a sore throat! So, worth a look, even if just to rule it out. DD had painkillers and antibiotics and was right as rain after 24 hours Smile.

insancerre · 27/04/2014 10:39

Could be a post viral thing.
Her immune system will be weakened after having chicken pox
I would just give her lots of fluids and plenty of rest
And some calpol to make her feelore comfortable
If she's not any better on a couple of days then I would consider a gp appointment

Forago · 27/04/2014 10:55

I was just going to say the same thing. mine were always under the weather with a bug of some description a couple if weeks after chicken pox - I presume because of their immune systems being a bit low from the. chicken pox.

"How do I get a sample? She is still in nappies"

Have you got a potty you can sit her on? We once spent 2 hours with DD sitting on a potty in hospital waiting for a sample because they needed this sample before they could do anything else.

MostlyMama · 27/04/2014 12:24

Yes have got a potty will try that then if needs be.

LIZS · 27/04/2014 12:27

you can get stick on sample bags for those in nappies - ask at a chemist.

ShadowFall · 27/04/2014 12:43

We've needed to do urine tests for DS2 (now 7 months) several times.

Our GP surgery gave us testing kits - these basically consisted of a couple of absorbant pads and a syringe. As pp says, chemists may stock these as well.

Idea being, you wash baby first, stick the pad over them (holding it on with a nappy), check it every 5 - 10 minutes to see if they've urinated, and then use the syringe to suck the urine out of the pad and transfer it to a sample bottle.

They can be a bit of a PITA because if baby doesn't wee within 30 mins or poos, you have to throw away the pad and start from scratch, but there's not much alternative when they're tiny.

Bunbaker · 27/04/2014 12:50

When DD was a baby she had to have one of those stick on sample bags, but the OP's DD is nearly 3, so I would have thought collecting a sample in a potty would be easier.

insancerre · 27/04/2014 12:53

I wouldn't bother trying to get a urine sample until you are actually asked to provide one
A high temp is an indication the body is fighting off an infection. Doesn't necessarily follow that she will develop an infection or if she does it may not even be a urine infection
If she hasn't got a temp today it sounds like she is on the mend

MostlyMama · 27/04/2014 14:42

I keep checking her and she is nowhere near as hot as she was yesterday, she was burning hot to the touch yesterday, she is warm today but not in a high temp way iyswim, she seems ok. I'll reassess her tommorow, thanks to all for your helpful comments I really appreciate them :)

I think she sounds like she's just had a virus and is improving so wouldn't bother with the GP unless she worsened again tbh.

MostlyMama · 28/04/2014 19:08

She's just got worse again, temp up to 38degrees celcius, have given calpol. Definitely will be taking her to the doctors tommorow, this isn't normal.

OP posts:
Twighlightsparkle · 28/04/2014 20:54

Just read your last post, def worth going to Gp, they can look at ears, throat, chest etc.

Will I guess also give you a pad for her nappy to get a wee sample

Twighlightsparkle · 28/04/2014 20:55

Hope she's better soon

MrsNoodleHead · 28/04/2014 20:58

38 degrees is normal, I think, OP?
