Is he still drinking loads? How is he in himself?

Peanut917 · 25/02/2014 14:57

No at docs. I asked for a different doc. Got him in right away but u say that and a friend asking why makes me feel fobbed off again. He's a little restless today, only had his nap by cuddling up to me and not really played with his toys. I've not given him his antihistamine today ( got these last week to help pox to stop irritating him) also not had calpol or brufen today. X

He could be renal failure, no urine output for nearly 3 days is ridiculous!! Take him to a&e and ask for a bladder scan.

pudseypie · 25/02/2014 15:08

Did the doctor give any explanation for where the fluid could be going? I seriously wouldn't trust the gp with this and would go to a&e. My gp (3 different ones each time) have failed to spot dehydration, severe constipation, & pneumonia before so I don't trust them for anything other than minor things and would always go to hospital if I was worried.

Peanut917 · 25/02/2014 15:23

Doc was baffled as to where it was going to. I moved gps last year (oct) as they were useless and these have been amazing until now. They make me feel like I'm over reacting but i can't shift this feeling I have.

Definitely demand a bladder scan, I don't see how the doctors you've seen are so unconcerned. You have a fight on your hands but it'll be worth it to find out what's going on.

All the best x

Go to A&E!

beautifulgirls · 25/02/2014 15:58

If he hasn't urinated today you must go back to the hospital now. This is ridiculous that they are not being certain his kidneys are working. Fair enough the case may not be serious but they also can not rule that in/out based on the clinical exam alone given his history. Meanwhile his kidneys may or not be deteriorating and things be getting ever more serious. I would go to hospital and kick up a big fuss if they do not do some proper checks here now.

Peanut917 · 25/02/2014 16:19

Thank you all of you. X

Be careful with giving him such huge amounts of liquid. Too much liquid can be extremely dangerous as well.

I agree with the other posters, go to A&E, if possible take a friend with you so you feel stronger if they try to fob you off.

I don't understand where all this fluid is going and why the drs are bit worried.

He needs a bladder scan and blood test. I can only thing of 3 options. Bladder problem would mean his bladder was filling up and your son can't pass urine, in which case he would be an emergency. Bladder not filling up, meaning there is a kidney problem, also an emergency. Or finally he is passing urine and you have missed it.

If there is no chance you have missed it then go to a&e, not the Gp out if hours bit, proper a&e.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 25/02/2014 20:27

I'm not a medical bod at all but surely a simple ultrasound would aid the diagnostic process?

I feel for you and your poor son. Sad

I have chronic bladder retention and have to self catheterise, it took me ages for anyone to believe me and I got that "are you constipated" talk as well. Went in when pregnant one day to maternity assessment and was left in total agony as they just didn't believe it was as serious as I was making out. A lot of noise and a couple of hours later (this was also the second hospital in 2 days) and they wanted to keep me in, had catheterised me, was taught how to self catheterise that night and had regular appointments with a uro nurse.

The uro nurse explained just how bloody important it is that if you are in retention, you go straight to hospital as it can end up very very serious.

I hope your DS has started going now but I honestly would demand that he is kept in hospital until they figure out exactly what is going on and fix it. I'm amazed they haven't attempted to catheterise him, having not passed water in all that time and also amazed that he isn't in agony.

lunar1 · 25/02/2014 21:04

Sorry My last post should have read I don't understand why drs are not worried. not bit!

Peanut917 · 25/02/2014 21:53

Had an awful evening with ds. He's had no calpol or brufen all day and after a google search I stopped his antihistamine the docs had given him ( all above was for chicken pox ) he's been clingy and crying. He's managed to do a wee (about a spoonful) he pulled an awful face. I'm thinking the meds he was having to help his pox wasn't showing his wee symptoms. Also my search found certain antihistamines can stop urine output. I'm crossing everything that with stoping all meds (as docs advised to give him) he wees again. If nothing il be sat in A&E until they test scan and check everything. Someone will listen to me and help him. He's my boy and I certainly not putting him thro another day. Feelings bit cross now Sad

Just take him tomorrow! Don't wait and see?

WaitingAndSpinning · 25/02/2014 22:22

I don't know, I don't think this is right. I honestly would be in A&E now and I'm quite A&E adverse!

Opheliabumps · 25/02/2014 23:16

I think I would take him now too, it's such a long time to not be weeing. Is he asleep or is he uncomfortable? If there's any discomfort I would go straight in.

Aldwick · 26/02/2014 00:00

Put some cotton wool balls or even just tissue in his nappy as it will make it much easier to see if he actually is passing small amounts of urine. However, he is 2 and something is definitely not right so I really think you need to start insisting on more tests.

Opheliabumps · 26/02/2014 07:48

How is he this morning peanut? Is he weeing more now the meds are stopped?

Peanut917 · 26/02/2014 08:26

I added tissue. Great help. He's had a a few over night by the looks so I'm really pleased. He even eaten breakfast this morning

So pleased to hear that - I think modern nappies are so good that it makes it really really hard to tell when they are wet - unless you are like me and onto the 3rd child so only remember to change him when it is practically round his knees!

NCISaddict · 26/02/2014 09:04

That's good. Sounds like he's on the road to recovery. I second the idea about modern nappies being so good, also home scales aren't sensitive enough to detect the changes in the nappies from small wees.
