Sick baby won't stay awake. Normal or worrying?

He is 7 months.
He has been ill for four days with high fever, wheeze etc.
I took him to A&E for wheeze last night. They said bronchiolytis and gave steroids and nebulisers.
He has been aero on me since 10am. If I our him down he cries but a tired cry and not totally awake. If I hold him he stays fast asleep and grumbles if I try and wake him but immediately goes back to sleep.

Is this a normal reaction to days with a high fever and disturbed nights or shld I take him to be seen again?

His wheeze is much better.

Poor thing. Hope he's ok, glad you are going straight there.

larrygrylls · 30/12/2013 16:27

Still, get him straight to a&e. when they are struggling to breathe it is v tiring and they need help. What is his colour like (does he have blue lips)? Can you see sucking in between his ribs when he breathes?

Boxofbugs · 30/12/2013 16:29

Not between his ribs but under. Also he is taking 65 breathes a second. Colour pale but not blueish.

I'd take him to A&E.

Either they'll say he is fine, or they will give him the medical help he requires.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/12/2013 16:31

999 now. Really. Please don't wait.

scripsi · 30/12/2013 16:32

Straight to A&E with no delay!

TwerkingNineToFive · 30/12/2013 16:32

Get him to a and e to be safe. Worst case senario its a waste of time but your mind will put at rest.

BoreOfWhabylon · 30/12/2013 16:33

Just call an ambulance. He is too unwell for a car journey.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 30/12/2013 16:37

drs or a and e - when my ds was this sleepy at same age the gp called an ambulance for him

ashamedoverthinker · 30/12/2013 16:38

Hope you are getting the help you need for your LO and he improves soon.

larrygrylls · 30/12/2013 16:38

He is clearly struggling to breathe with that rate. However he is still at least oxygenating. If you are close to a&e, take him in car but keep him upright. If you are any distance, call ambulance now.

NancyOsbourne · 30/12/2013 16:41

Hope all turns out ok for him OP xx

LizzieVereker · 30/12/2013 16:44

AyeWhySWIM · 30/12/2013 17:40

I was just coming on to ask how things are and also to say that although we had a scary couple of days with ds he did bounce back very quickly. He'll be taken good care of - I was reassured by the unfortunate fact that they see countless cases like this at this time of year.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 30/12/2013 21:07

how are things - any news op?

anothernamechangerreally · 30/12/2013 21:12

TeaAndSconesTwice · 31/12/2013 01:32

Hope your ds is ok box.

Boxofbugs · 31/12/2013 06:56

Thanks all. His oxygen stats were low and the hospital said he was just knackered from fighting to breath and having a persistent high fever. They gave nebulisers and stabilised his temp and he was all smiles and charm, his stats improved and we were allowed home with promise to return if he deteriorated again... Now on way back in as he is breathing really fast, wailing with odd high pitch cry and temp 39 after ibuprofen.

This is one evil virus.
