13 year old DD with persistent morning nausea

My 13 year old DD has been suffering with nausea every morning for the last week. She has not been sick. It normally goes by lunch time. Went to docs yesterday and no wee infection & def not pregnant! She hasn't started periods yet, not stressed or anxious about anything, and has been eating normally. We have tried lots of things....ginger, travel bands, eating regularly (when she can), getting up earlier and nothing has worked. Worried that she is missing school and I'm having to take time off work. Anyone got any advice/suggestions? Thanks

My daughter is now back at school and back to normality after 13 weeks of nausea and sickness. The turning points were:
Going into school with her for a meeting where she identified a class she could miss to catch up work missed in the library. The Head of Year came out to meet her with a sick bowl as we pulled up in the car. The HoY kept this going for a couple of weeks.
We made our daughter believe she would get better booking a night away to look forward to once she was well.
The big game changer was going on the pill. She started taking it in a Friday and had stopped being sick by the Tuesday. I had to push for this from the doctor.
We had tried cyclizine and emeprozol which alleviated but we’re not game changers.
It is a massive strain on the whole family but getting back to school is so important. We literally had to manhandle her into the car thinking we were the worst parents but it was for the best. Good luck!

I had this for a few years, aged 13 to 16. Couldn't eat in morn.
The cause is the brutally early (for a teenager) time of rising. Teenagers need a lot more sleep than they're being given. The industrial revolution has a lot to answer for! We're all so acculturated to this way of life we can't imagine anything about it being a problem.
Jump in a time machine, travel back 7 years and see if your child suffers this nausea on mornings where they get to sleep in longer. If not, there's your answer. Well, it was mine, anyway.

Hello I know this is a old post. But my 14 Yr old daughter is going through the same. Did u find out what it was? 🤔

Sorry to bump an old thread but did anyone find any answers to this? My 16-year-old son has had awful nausea for five weeks, especially in the mornings. He's missed almost half a term of school and hs GCSEs are looming (which probably isn't helping). The GP has tried stemetil, cyclizine and ondansetron, which all work for a bit and then lose their effectiveness within a few days. Blood tests have shown a possible recent glandular fever infection but nothing else out of the ordinary except low Vitamin D. He's been referred for an urgent abdominal ultrasound but that might take another four weeks.

How distressing for the whole family. My daughter went through this. She pulled through and is out the other side though still has triggers and nauseous a lot. Key things that turned things round were belief she would get better, recognising that we weren’t ever going to find a cause (allergy to food etc), realising that it was her body’s response to stress, and realising that it didn’t matter if she was sick. She forced her way back to school - sometimes sick 10 times before and sick in the bus. Teachers were supportive and she was allowed to not go to the one lesson that was identified as a source of anxiety. One thought was that she might have PoTs syndrome. Salty snacks helped. We let go of trying to feed her healthily. Good luck. Happy to talk more if you need support. It is a huge strain in whole family but you will get through this.

Thank you. I'm really glad she got better. It's awful seeing them so miserable and unwell.
