it looked like her hands had been dipped in pva glue, we went to the pharmacist and he said prob excema and got some e45, cleared up fine, now the same is happening to the soles of her feet, it is very odd.

Has she been unwell? I would take her to GP . There is a rare condtion that can present with skin peeling off.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:38

not unwell at all.

The same thing happened to my DD a few years ago, and we never worked out what it was. We kept applying aqueous cream (from the GP) several times a day and eventually it just went.

Roseformeplease · 08/02/2013 14:40

Impetigo? Usually presents on the top lip first but my daughter was misdiagnosed until it spread to her face. All skin came off hands. It is more prevalent in those with eczema as the bacteria/virus gets into cracked hands. Easy to cure (Dr will give cream) but they can't go to school or have contact with others as it is contagious. Although, my son didn't catch it and they shared a room.

GreatUncleEddie · 08/02/2013 14:41

This happened over my friend's DD's entire body. Dermatologist said eczema exacerbated by stress on her body following a (normal, run of the mill, cold-type) virus. Treatment was emollients and steroid cream, same as normal eczema.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:42

it isnt cracked, it really just looks like when you peel pva glue off hands (admit it you all remember)no infections or wounds left afterwards. you have got me worrying now

It is better to just get it checked out. In Kawasaki disease skin peels of hands and feet. Most likely not .

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:43

just googled impetigo and definatly not that.

IHeartKingThistle · 08/02/2013 14:43

Happens after scarlet fever doesn't it? Same virus as impetigo I think.

LegArmpits · 08/02/2013 14:43

When DD had Hand Foot and Mouth disease, all the skin peeled off her toes. Could it be that?

BeehavingBaby · 08/02/2013 14:44

This used to happen to me at school, exactly like glue, never remember an explanation. Went to the doctor a few times, blamed it on stress (DPs spliting at time) but I think for somrthing to say.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:47

just phoned doctors and I am not allowed to speak to or see a doctore unless it is a medical emergNECY

she had a temp about 2 and half weeks ago and was quite poorly, then the hands, and now the feet, they seem unrealated so i never thought, going to pick her up from school in a minute and take her to either the walk in centre or the childrens hospital, which would be more appropriate? they are going to think I am mad if I walk into the childrens hospital because some skin is peeling arent they.

Phone NHS direct then, and think about changing GP.

LittleMissHocusPocus · 08/02/2013 14:56

My brother and I both used to get something like this as kids.

Our hands/feet would be really really itchy for a week or so before and then all the skin would peel off, exactly as you describe. Doctor never 'diagnosed' it and Mum just used to put E45 style cream on us until it stopped peeling.

The weird thing was it seemed to happen once a year and then we pretty much grew out of it, I just sometimes get a tiny bit on sides of fingers and my brother gets a little bit on his feet. Younger brother never had it.

Mum used to say we must have snake genes!

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:57

will have to wait till I get back from school run to phone nhs direct as they call back dont they?

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 14:58

its not itchy, or red at all just peeling, I feel sick how can I have missed soemthing so important.

OP posts:
LittleMissHocusPocus · 08/02/2013 15:03

Mine was only itchy beforehand, not while it was peeling.
It was very 'new' skin underneath but not red, sore or cracked etc.

Sure doctors/nhs direct will be able to put your mind at rest.

staverton · 08/02/2013 15:13

Phone GP back and say you are worried she might have kawasaki disease as this is a symptom. That is an emergency. It is not for the receptionist to triage they have no medial training.
It probably isn't that but needs to be checked out.

katecreate · 08/02/2013 15:39

I've had eczema since I was a kid and this happens to me about once every four months. I hadn't thought it was related to my eczema but it makes sense now! Mine doesn't itch or anything either, just peels.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 15:43

nhs direct say we have to see gp asap, just ringing again now

OP posts:
Verugal · 08/02/2013 15:43

I saw this in active convos and thought "get her checked for Kawasaki disease " particularly given recent fever.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 15:44

no docs wont see her got to go to walk in centre in city centre or childrens. argh.

OP posts:
Zoomania · 08/02/2013 15:53

Agree with posters above, you do need to take her to see someone today, and ask them about kawasaki disease.

ditavonteesed · 08/02/2013 15:55

off too walk in centre
